Hi Tony,
I'd like to try to learn to weave a Mayfly body (extended) Your CD is
great for this, but I can't find the Gudebrod thread that yoou use.
Are you (or anyone else) aware of a suitable substitued? Colors?
I watched several YouTube videos that used everything from antron yarn

Hi Nick,

Embroidery thread, mamy use it for woven bodies. It's typically six strand,
use as many strands as you need to obtain thickness desired. I imagine a
single strand would be pretty close in thickness to Gudebrod G thread.

Bob,
It's no longer made. I like Wayne's suggestion of embroidery thread.
Supposedly the current Orvis thread is very similar to Gudebrod, but I
haven't tried it to see.

Just make sure that embroidery thread isn't cotton. You will probably have
to use something like Danville, Uni, or Wapsi (UTC) 210 denier since
Gudebrod G was between 270 and 303 denier. Wapsi also makes a 280 denier,
and just so happens to be made from polyester, the same as Gudebrod. The

Gudebrod was all silk, wasn't it? Might there be an advantage to using
Pearsall's?
Embroidery thread is generally polyester - I think. Maybe better for a
dry fly?

I'll try it with the embroidery thread.

Bob,
I have a friend that tells me he now ties them with Danville Big Fly thread.
Another tells me that Orvis now has the thread that is equivalent to The
Gudebrod G thread. I have not checked them out yet. I am getting close to
using the last of my G thread so I will have to do something
As much as I hate to do this, is there someone that will take my place in the
swap.
In the past four months, I have been in the hospital six times, had four
surgeries two light strokes and heart and kidney problems. I thought that this
last Kidney procedure done two weeks ago would be the last.
Gudebrod was polyester, which is why they were drastically different than
Uni and Danville, which are nylon. The stuff my wife has in her embroidery
basket is all cotton. Maybe that is just what she prefers. I know that is
just anecdotal, but it is worth reading the labels before you buy just to
I still have several boxes of gudebrod thread. When I get a moment I will
dig them out and post what I have and sell it to you if anyone is
interested. I bought a bunch several years ago on ebay. I like it and
always transfer the thread from the long skinny spools onto the nor-vise
spools. Let
Hi Mike,
I'd certainly be interested.
