Chuck,
This may rattle some but here is what I do with plastic beads of the right size
that have no recess for the bend clearance. I normally have to do this for the
plastic beads on the WRD. The plastic bead will not go around the bend, If I
force it it will split. If I use a bigger bead

One of the things that Tony said was what I would say - pinch the barb
down. Next get the right size bead for the hook. Glass is not as flexible
but I have found that they are not consistent with the sizes. You can try

Mike, I know this will worry some tyers and I am sure some hooks will be too
brittle like the old VMC hooks. I have had no problems with the Eagle Claw
hooks I use and most of the Mustads.. On some of the old Mustads, most that
broke was when I pinched down the barb so I quit using them.Like I s
A lot of the new hooks for flyfishing are micro-barb, so they don't pose much
of a problem.
I rarely squash a barb flat, unless the hook is brittle and the barb doesn't
bend.
I prefer to bend the barb down to a very shallow profile- east to remove & set,
but it won't just fall out.

I know this is kind of getting off topic but I have knows some tyers that have
used a cigarette lighter to anneal the bend to open it up a bit. I have not
resorted to that.
Plastic beads are my problem not many brass beads.

What have I missed
Nothing really dramatic. I've got about 650 e-mails in my VFB box
since Nov. 21. Do you want me to forward them all to you? I'll
take out the ones where we were talking about you behind your back.
WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back, Neville. Didn't all the snow in the UK remind you of back home?
And you're right, all the files have been removed from the
www.virtualflybox.com web site server.

Hi Wes & Allan
Flying related but not fly-tying!
I spent over 3 hours sitting on a full A330 aircraft yesterday at London,
Heathrow airport. I arrived at the airport early at 11:30 am due to the
adverse road conditions and anticipating extra security screening delays.

You can also find pointed type files in the beadworking area of your craft

can be used to file it down. They even help on glass beads. I find most of
