I have the oldest video iPod too, and I produce a single big video
of each episode that will play on all video iPods and the AppleTV as well.
Can you clarify what you mean by big videos? I mean 640x480 and
compressed in H.264, baseline low-complexity. I open my full AVI
version of the

Yup, can't remember if its a software or firmware update, but
basically the old video ipods magically become 640x480/1500k/h.264 (of
