Somebody at MIT has already come up with a way to jam digital still cameras, targeting them and shining a bright light directly into the lens so that you can't photograph whatever you're aiming at that they don't want you to. I'm sure they'll come up with something similar for other types of cameras, and we'll have a techno-war on that front as well...-- best regards,Deirdré Straughanwww.straughan.com (personal)www.tvblob.com (work) SPONSORED LINKS Individual Fireant Typepad Explains YAHOO! It would take a large full-time staff doing nothing but surf and serve notices all day; by the time you get one provider to respond and remove the offending material, ten more copies have popped up. [videoblogging] Kodak releases uncrippled Wi-fi camera
hello vloggers, Jay alluded to this camera in a previous post (quoted below). Kodak has released a Wi-fi enabled camera that, unlike the Nikon announced earlier this year, isn't crippled and can e-mail photos *and video* using open Wi-fi networks. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=6433pq- locale=en_US at $600, it's pretty pricey, but I'm really excited to see a product like this come out. hopefully other camera manufacturers will follow suit. this is really what I've been waiting for: a tool to do almost-live reporting on the ground. at Blip.tv, we already have support for e-mailing videos from cellphones (as Charles has talked about in previous posts) - it's a natural progression for us to add support for this camera. what do y'all think? cheers, - Jared -- personal vlog: http://jklett.blip.tv/ focused vlog: http://spokes.tv/ Begin forwarded message: From: Jay dedman [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: July 21, 2005 5:16:37 PM EDT To: videoblogging@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [videoblogging] Re: Vloggercon II Reply-To: videoblogging@yahoogroups.com cell phone biz is mostly driven on hype i'd much rather see the little pocket cameras do awesome mp4 compression and wireless internet. i'd rather the camera be the core of the device, not a cell phone. agreed. cell phone companies want so much control that innovation is slow and retarded. Re: [videoblogging] final cut pro and mp3 files?
hi Richard. The bleeps mean that you need to render the audio - since your sequence in FCP is set to work with DV audio, the computer needs to change the formats. Go to the sequence menu and choose Render All.Speaking of iTunes - if you want to import the audio in FCP so that you wont have this problem, export it to AIFF from iTunes. Go to the iTunes menu, select preferences, and click on the advanced tab. Inside there, click on the importing tab. Change this from "using mp3" or "using AAC" to "using AIFF". Click ok, go back into iTunes, and select the song you want to convert. Then go to the advanced menu and choose "convert selection to AIFF". It will put the song in your iTunes music folder, under the artist name. Remember to change your settings back to mp3 or AAC, or else when you rip CDs with iTunes they will all be big AIFF files. Then you can import this AIFF file into FCP and you won't need to render it all the time.Hope that helps!BrettOn 3-Oct-05, at 1:00 PM, Richard wrote: I am playing with final cut pro for the first time I imported an mp3 music file and when I drag it to the timeline and play it, all I hear are little beeps, not the song. Re: [videoblogging] final cut pro and mp3 files?
the ticking is because of sample rate. DV projects typically use 48hrz audio. if you drag an mp3 (and some other audio formats) that uses a different sample rate you will get problems. rendering the file in FCP will not fix the problem. exporting from Quicktime to AIFF is the best workflow, but often the default is 44hrz and should be changed to 48hrz in the export options window. best, m On Oct 3, 2005, at 12:10 PM, trine bjørkmann berry wrote: i find converting to AIFF gets rid of the ticking sound. [videoblogging] Cross Cultural Video Production
Hello! This is my first post here, so let me explain why I joined this group. For over four years I have been teaching a college level course where students from the US exchange short videos with students at universities in other countries. In 2001-02 we worked with Russian students in Moscow, in 2002-03 and 2003-04 we worked with Belarusan students in Minsk and this year we are doing a three way exchange with students in Istanbul,Turkey and Mexico City. I teach at SUNY/Purchase in both the Film and New Media Programs and my class is also open to other students - if they can talk their way in. 8) The course runs for a full year and involves a lot of background reading on the cultures with whom we work and a lot of exploration of surrealist production techniques like the exquisite corpse, because we use these methods in the class. In fact the main production model we use is one where students first write paragraphs that form stories, than design images that make up mini-graphic novels and finally shoot and edit video scenes that build into longer video pieces. These are developed by being passed back and forth over the Internet amongst small student teams, as the students try to create audio-visual meanings across cultures. If you would like to see some of this work it is visible here: http://rachel.ns.purchase.edu/~jrubin/ What we are doing is not exactly videoblogging, but it is very related. The students all shoot MiniDV and in the past we have used DivX to compress the five minute videos down to 40 - 80MB full-frame videos and then we have sent them to each other by FTP. Posting them online was NOT part of the process. However, after the project was done we used FlixPro to convert them to much smaller Flash files which are what you see on the web site. I am posting here both because I thought that some videobloggers might find this project interesting, but also because I am considering moving to a videoblog format this year and figured that I might get some good advice from participants in this group. I guess the main thing preventing me from going the videoblog route so far is that I want video quality that is good enough to work when projected in a small theatre. I was amazed at how good the DivX files looked projected in front of 100 people, but once these files were whacked down to 320 x 240 they just were not acceptable. I am looking into the new Flash video format in hopes that this could be done in one step - but I'm not sure the technology is there yet. I also have some questions about videoblog formats, since what I need would be a multi-threaded, team videoblog, where many students could post to the same blog - but I have taken up a lot of space already, so I will close here. I hope some of you will find the project of interest. I hope to expand it to other venues in the future. Jon Rubin Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Fair play? Video games influencing politics. I went to: http://www.remyc.com/Scion66_riseshine.html and just saw a big pink square on the page, no video. I then tried to validate the page: URL:http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A//www.remyc.com/Scion66_rise%26shine.html It failed validation. Many (ok, most) pages on the web do, but it helps to write valid html when it comes to fixing problems with your pages. (Also note that using an ampersand '' in your page name might not be a good idea, some browsers/services may have problems with that.) Anyway, I viewed the source of the page and found the video here: http://www.remyc.com/riseshine466.wmv (Again, avoid using '' in file names if you can.) The server is sending this file as 'text/plain' when it should be 'video/x-ms-wmv' (This is what tells the browser to use an application that can play WMV files.) The server is running Apache, so either you or a server admin could fix this by adding in an .htaccess file with the following: AddType video/x-ms-wmv .wmv So that any file with an .wmv extension would be served properly. If this is over your head (it is to many people) is there a server admin or techie who could help you with it? Pete -- http://tinkernet.org/ videoblog for the future... Yahoo! Comparing the standard Blogger sytem to WordPress is a little unfair. With Blogger, you're limited to what the service provides. Honestly, I'm not really sure what the problem could be. The only reason (I could think of) that "New Movie Recording" might be missing is if you don't have a camera or something attached to your computer. Re: [videoblogging] blinkx.tv?
JD Lasica raised some interesting questions about Blinkx, see http://www.newmediamusings.com/blog/2005/09/blinkx_a_citize.html As for your horrible experience with MediaPost, that is certainly not professional journalism. The one time I've been interviewed by phone by a professional journalist (not vlogging-related), he called me on the regular phone instead of Skype because he had no way to record from Skype, but was already set up to record from his phone. I doubt I'd see any quotes in advance, but I didn't ask (I don't think the article has come out yet, either). (Some? Most?) Journalists do tend to slant quotes to support whatever thesis they're propounding - covering both sides of the question isn't regarded as compelling journalism, it seems. But this guy went over the top. Sounds like a case for Jeff Jarvis.-- best regards,Deirdré Straughanwww.straughan.com (personal)www.tvblob.com (work) SPONSORED LINKS Individual Fireant Typepad Explains YAHOO! Re: [videoblogging] blinkx.tv?
Strike that. I happened to hit two or three in a row yesterday and thought they were all Real. It appears that they just link to whatever format the provider is providing. On 10/4/05, Deirdre Straughan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: To view video on Blinkx requires Real. [videoblogging] RSS Video Enclosure Playlists (was Lean Back Vids)
pasted in wrong subject... despite it being applicable :-) On 10/4/05, Michael Sullivan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: hi, vlog folk. something i started months ago... partially implemented on videobloggers.org (if you host video there) and now more finished on vlogdir.com. RSS Video Enclosure Playlists I love LeanBackVids.com Mostly because I love that they realize the importance of music/soundtracks for their vids. This is how I vlog and will be focusing more on... and my motivation for a conceptual project called OpenMusicVideo. Sorry... anyways, to demonstrate the Video Playlist let us use LeanBackVids because the idea of being able to watch an entire Video Feed sequentially as you Lean Back Just Jives... and like i said, I love their vids ;-) LeanBackVids Quicktime Video Playlist - Lean Back and Enjoy! http://vlogdir.com/vlog/index.php?op=Templateshow=smilfeedurl=http://feeds.feedburner.com/leanbackvids You can change the feedurl= parameter in url to try other feeds/channels. If you are browsing vlogdir.com you can launch a video playlist when previewing the feed (see attached screenshot) The Quicktime Playlist (smil format) contains chapters representing each feed item's video enclosure. You can select these chapters in the Quicktime controller to skip around. Also, while each video is playing, you can click on it and it will open a new web browser window and load that RSS items permalink... typically the blog post permalink. Warnings: As cool as I think smil is... its far from perfect and has been known to crash browsers if 'pushed too hard' (yes, currently you need to load these via web browser). Also, these playlists will only work with Quicktime compatible media formats and in this case, only video formats are parsed (for now). And, I need to experiment with error handling so when the playlist reaches an incompatible media format, it will not just break and instead skip and continue on. I believe I can try a QT extension called system-mime-type-supported. Last... I may change things so what I say here could be innacurate in near future. Email me if confused ;-) Let me know your experiences with this if you care to test it out. To view video on Blinkx requires Real. That put me off immediately. Maybe you happened to search for something that returned a result as a Real video? http://video.yahoo.com also often returns results that are Real video. Like it or not, a lot of that stuff exists out there on the InterWeb. Of course, you can also filter out that content type from your searches on Yahoo! I haven't used Blinkx much, but I assume you can perform the same kind of content type filtering. -josh On 10/4/05, Deirdre Straughan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: To view video on Blinkx requires Real.
