RE: [videoblogging] Help with Wordpress background/sidebar glitch?

2006-05-23 Thread Monique Danielle

Hi Greg,

Did you cut and paste something from word or another document? If so, the
formatting may be conflicting with your stylesheet. The quickest fix it to
simply reformat the text. Look at the source code and you'll find the
problem.

Can any Wordpress experts out there help with a problem?

I'm using the Kubrick header, which I've modified a bit on my own. All
I did was update a post by selecting all the text and making it left-
justified and when the site updated, the whole whole background turned
the color of my border and the sidebar was pushed to the bottom of the
page.

I assume the answer lies in adjusting one of the style sheets but I'm
by no means an expert on Wordpress. Any advice?

[videoblogging] What Do You Prefer to Vlog About

2006-05-22 Thread Monique Danielle

Howdy,

Lot's of folks have offered me great feedback on the types of 'challenges'
that we should post at VlogChallenge.

Would you prefer to see vague concepts like 'love', 'hope'. A bit more
concrete concepts like 'apples', 'cracks'. Or very specific
concepts/questions like 'who was your favorite teacher', and 'tell about
your best kiss'.

Please respond. I want to make VlogChallenge a fun platform for vloggers.

I have a guy who is going to program the site so that it is more
sophisticated. But he's backed up with a project for the etrade guy right
now. But I think that we can give VlogChallenge a shot with the current
programming until then

Well,

I always wanted to do video. I have some in my current podcast
(www.frenchpodclass.com), but that is not the same.

so here it is: www.francewithsebastien.com (also available on itunes.)

I know that :
1/ it is not the best video quality ever, but i am limited on
the materials and the set up, and overall,
2/ with what I have, am pretty happy (everything was done with a
camera and can not put away that automatic light).

If you ever donate a videocamera, well, I am here!

Programs that handle .mov files usually make calls to quicktime. If
quicktime is not present on the system then they won't be usable. If
quicktime is installed then try saving the .mov file in a different
format ( you may need a pro key to do this).

Whew, okay. I just finished peaking under every rock I could think of
to find all the women videobloggers I could find and I came up with
around 70. I was actaully quite surprised - it never seemed like that
many - not that 70 is that many.

So, okay... I promised myself that I would give back (not that I'm
like out of it to be giving back - but you know what I mean) to the
vlogging community somehow. And I do like the idea of collaborating -
even though I'm often short on time. So in an attempt to bridge a
virtual gap of sorts I created this collective: http://vidlicious.com

I really want to see more women creating video. I want us to find ways
to work together. And I often like that we don't agree on things
because it keeps us on point and thinking and finding solutions.

This collective vlog is just one big link loving/video-making fest. So
please email me if you'd like to join. If you don't email me, I'll be
forced to spend another night sending out 70 individual emails asking
for support. I'm hoping it benefits us all as it continues to evolve.

Okay, I'll be waiting!

Zadi

PS: And if you know of any female vlogger I missed on the list, email
me that info too. Thanks...

[videoblogging] Casting Call for Investigative Reporters - Hotties Not Required - Hairy Guys Welcome

2006-05-11 Thread Monique Danielle

FYI - thought some of you might like to know about this -
http://www.vlogdiva.com

Casting Call for investigative reporters..
Company: Langley ProductionsContact: State: Any StatePosted On: Feb 15, 06
Expires On: Jun 15, 06
Description:
Langley Productions, the creators and producers of the hit television series
COPS, is looking for investigative news stories which are built on
undercover or surveillance footage to profile on a new television show
called VIDEO JUSTICE.

VIDEO JUSTICE focuses on video that has had an impact on the justice system,
law enforcement or in the case of investigative reporting, prompted a change
in local laws or community procedures. The half hour series will debut this
spring on COURT TV.

Most recently, VIDEO JUSTICE profiled WPMI reporter Mike Rush of Mobile
Alabama. Rush's undercover footage of organized fights between pit bulls and
wild hogs has lead to an animal cruelty bill in the Alabama state
legislature, which if passed will outlaw the bloody events.

If you have produced an investigative undercover report in the last five
years which has had a positive effect on your community, we would like to
hear about it.

Video justice would also be interested in profiling news camera
photographers who have caught a crime on camera- whether it is a high speed
chase or a bank robbery-any footage that was used in court as evidence would
be considered for the program.

This is an excellent opportunity to bring your work and your station's
community commitment to a national audience on COURT TV.

VIDEO JUSTICE will consider airing profiles on any news story which features
clear and compelling video from all television markets.

RE: [videoblogging] Lobbyists Trying to Destroy Internet Freedom?

2006-05-02 Thread Monique Danielle

Got this in my email. Thought I would pass it on:

Congress is now pushing a law that would end the free and open Internet as
we know it. Internet providers like ATT and Verizon are lobbying Congress
hard to gut Network Neutrality, the Internet's First Amendment and the key
to Internet freedom. Net Neutrality prevents ATT from choosing which
websites open most easily for you based on which site pays ATT more. So
Amazon doesn't have to outbid Barnes Noble for the right to work more
properly on your computer.

quick!

Help!

I'm visiting a well-known womens' magazine in NYC on Thursday to talk
about blogging. Last minute email from hosts says, Show us some videoblogs!

So, if you were going to see the editors of a magazine you've probably
seen on the supermarket store racks, what would you show them?

I'll love you guys forever for helping me out on this one!

[videoblogging] Vagina Vlogs from a Domain Name Whore

2006-04-21 Thread Monique Danielle

I can't believe it, I just purchased about $600 in
domain names. My three favorite names are aboutvlogging.com,
  thevaginamonovlogs.com, and vlogvixens.com.

I bought a bunch of domain names that will be
attractive to pornographers as vlogging grows. I am not a porn advocate,
so I'm going to have all of the porn urls drive to an antiporn feminist
site/vlog. They are domain names like www.barelylegalvlog.com,www.hairypussyvlog.com, www.slugvlog.com,
  etc.

I also bought a bunch of non porn vlog names, I'm
not sure which ones I will use, but I figured I would buy them now while
the industry is till on the cusp of growth. Hopefully the worst
thing that can happen is that I use some, and sell a few of the others for
enough that I don't lose money on the ones that I don't want/need.

Which domains do you think have the best
potential. I know there is know way I can develop all of these, but I want
to really focus on a few of them.

RE: [videoblogging] Embed vs. Pop-Up

2006-04-17 Thread Monique Danielle

Hi
Jeff,

Many
folks have pop-ups disabled on their browsers, therefore I prefer embedded.
Also, I thinkthat embedded videos look more professional and do a better
job of maintaining 'brand awareness'.

today his dislike of embedded quicktime movies, and the issue of scrolling. Is
the issue simply that viewing videos via a pop-up is optimal to the embedded
approach, so that you can move the pop-up window around on the desktop to
where you like? I hope this doesn't sound like too stupid of a question,
but I want to make sure that I'm not missing something here.I have
switched over from Josh's pop-up solution (embedthevideo.com), to Enric's vPIP.
I can scroll OK, in Firefox and IE, while a vid is playing - although that
isn't something I personally do that much.I would like to do what
works best for my viewers (all 10 of them ), and would like to hear more opinions on what the group
thinks is the optimal approach. Also, I would like to thank this

The answer to that question for me is: Even an elegant solution
like Enric's vPIP results in a video embeded in
your vlog. Scrolling the page, even with just
one embeded Quicktime movie, sucks. To me it's a really crappy user
experience. It really only works well on a page like Rocketboom's
that's designed to not scroll. If instead the video appears
in a pop-up window you now avoid the scrolling
problem, plus the viewer can place the video where

RE: [videoblogging] Embed vs. Pop-Up

2006-04-17 Thread Monique Danielle

Hi
Verdi,

I've
clicked on a link for a pop-up and my broswer will not allow it because of the
settings I have. . . . I hate pop-ups for this reason. In order for me to view
them I have to OK them for that site/page. I agree that a major limitation to
embedded videos is that you are limited to showing one video/page, otherwise it
can be problematic.

[videoblogging] Embed vs. Pop-UpNot to get into a
debate over which is better (I think they both work) but I do want to clear up
some things. The popups I'm talking about are not blocked because the user
initiated them. Like I said earlier the one thing that keeps me, personally,
from using the embeded video on my own vlog is not that it's hard to scroll
when the video is playing (though it is) it's that even after the video is
done and you want to scroll down and look at something else, the embeded video
causes rendering problems and makes scrolling kind of "jerky." That's why I
said they work better on a site where there is only one video displayed - like
Rocketboom or Stephanie's site. One of these days when I get around to it,
I've got a videoblog that I want to do with avatars from Second Life - where
I've set up a template that shows one video at a time embeded in a page (no
  scrolling necessary). -Verdi

RE: [videoblogging] Green Screen Other Tools

2006-04-15 Thread Monique Danielle

Thanks
for the tips. Good info there. I think the target clothing rack they
mention sounds like a good low-cost option.
While it is somewhat more expensive ($49)
the "Chrome Commercial Folding Garment Rack" from Target is an excellent
framework for projection screens. It folds up well, has good wheels and is built
as sturdily as a shopping cart. Using a pair of curtain rods and a sheet of
blackout cloth I have been able to make a 72" wide projection screen. The
one issue I would be interested in is the side tensioning which has proven to be
the most challenging issue involved.

[videoblogging] Green Screen Other Tools

2006-04-14 Thread Monique Danielle

Hi
All,

I want to take my
vlogging to the next level, so I'm looking at putting together the tools to make
this happen on a grassroots/affordable level. I have a video camera and have
purchased a lavalier microphone per David Howell's suggestion. A few other
needs are:

1. Greenscreen WITH
stand so that I can make it free standing. I found a great site that tells
you how to make your own:
http://www.stormforcepictures.com/howto-buildabluescreen.php
and a
place to buy paint for only $40
http://www.eefx.com/eefx2/store/cat_ck_p.html

But, I
want need my to be freestanding. Any ideas on how to do that? I've seen some
online but they cost $250 or so, and if possible I would rather do it for
less.
2.
Need a handheld microphone or something that will allow me to interview folks
and maintain good sound quality. I have one now and it's a piece of
crap.

So
other then camera, adobe premiere elements, lavalier mic, greenscreen and nice
handheld mic, can you think of anything else that I should
considerbuying?

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the tip. Actually I've put carpet in the room. Have the
cameramax three feetaway (usuallly only 2.5) . Turn on the built in
zoom microphone. Used an external microphone. And still peoplesay the
soundquality is not good enough. it's very frustration. I'l give the zoom
microphone a try.

My
house has vaulted ceiling throughout - it'slarge -tile throughout
-thin blinds throughout (live in Florida) - and very sparse modern decor.
So maybe that's why. But I'm not willing to hang heavy drapes, or put down more
than aLARGE throw rug in the room I film.I hope theshot gun
microphone works.

[videoblogging] Shotgun Microphone?

2006-04-11 Thread Monique Danielle

Hi
Guys,
Alot of folks have been complaining
about the sound on my vlogs. I've done all sorts of things to improve it, but to
no avail.
Jay Madore suggested a shotgun
microphone. A few questions about that:
My camera is a a Panasonic PVGS39. You
have to plug the microphone in the front - there is no mount, therefore I'm
having a hard time finding a good microphone. Any idea where I can find a good,
relatively inexpensive $75 to $175 shotgun microphone that will work with my
camera?

RE: [videoblogging] Is it Fair Use to link directly to a vlog's video?

"My question is Is it Fair Use to link

On VlogChallenge we link directly to folks
moves, BUT they add their links so they have OK'd it. I don't agree with
hotlinking in general, so I would say, no it is not fair UNLESS you give full
and proper credit to the vlogger (site, name, link to homepage, etc), then I
would think that most folks would be fine with it. Just my humble
opinion

1.
VlogDiva - I would like to post weekly there. My favorite entry is
'Characteristics of Bad Website Design', but believe it or not it took me a long
time to edit that video. So I'm starting to think that I'm just going to read
from a prompter. I spend so much time writing the script that I dont want to
have to spend a bunch of time memorizing and editing to.

2.
VlogChallenge - That one is easy because all I'm going to do is film myself
announcing a challenge. But if I can get enough participants each week I would
also like to make a remix of all entries for a given challenge.

3.
ShopSWFL - This regional community site has a ton of back end functionality, but
no content and is basically a shell right now. But once I launch in a few weeks
I would like to start doing a daily vlog where I film people and places in
and around SWFL for two to four minutes. I'm curious to see if anyone else
is doing this - I would like to seehow they are doing it, what the quality
is, etc.

Welcome Brook.

So, you're a pro film maker? I'm looking forward to
what we see coming from you in the future. If you feel up to it, please
enter this weeks challenge DANGER. I'm sure one of your ghost videos would work
well - maybe the one with the weird ladies accosting little boys playing croquet
:)

Did you edit those videos or just post them as you
received them?

RE: [videoblogging] VlogChallenge: Anyone Going to Post?

2006-04-06 Thread Monique Danielle

Hi
Steph,

Well,
ideally folks will get there posts in by Friday. But I probably will not post
the winner and a new challenge until Monday, so if absolutely necessary folks
can wait until Sunday to post. And remember, you can make that with
vlogchallenge in general, you can make a vlog specifically for the challenge, or
you can simply post one from your archive that relates.

Also,
I wanted to let you guys know that I spent two hours yesterday submitting the
site to numerous vlog directories and such. I will do my best to promote the
heck out of the site so that over time you guys will get folks really looking at
your entries. It's almost circular because I need viewers to get entries,
but I need entries to get viewers :)

[videoblogging] Traffic on Your Vlog?

2006-04-06 Thread Monique Danielle

Hi
Guys,

I'm
curious about the type of trafficyour vlogs are getting -I've posted some
question, I would love to see your answers. My answers are
below:

1. How
long has your vlog been up? 25 days
2. How
many vlog entries do you have posted? three
3. How
much traffic do you get? about 210 visits, 450 pages per day
4.
What's the URL of your vlog? http://www.vlogdiva.com
5. How
many feeds and directories did you submit you site to? 10
6. How
else do you promote your vlog? Email newsletter 'DivaDigest' via
DivaDesignWorld
7.
Bookmark rate? 16.2% (this number is decieving, as I think they count things as
bookmarks that really are not)
8.
Search Engine Saturation: 1 (get these numbers at
marketleap.com)
9.
Link Popularity: 262 (get these numbers at marketleap.com)
10.
Google Page Rank: 4 (easily get your pagerank her http://www.mypagerank.net/)
10.
Why do you vlog? Mostly for fun, but also to gain exposure for my agency,
DivaDesignWorld

BTW -
I know that right now the presentation/functionality of our site is a bit low
tech. But as we get more participants over the next couple of weeks I'm going to
work on some advanced programming to make the presentation a bit
slicker.

Hi
Andy,

7. Bookmark rate? No idea. How do you calculate this?
Find it in awstats, if youhave that on your hosting
software. 8. Search Engine Saturation: Marketleap says
14,380, but I have noidea what that means.
That number is
supposed to be the number of pages you have indexed across five major search
engines and directories.
 10. Google Page
Rank: 7 (is that good?)
Yes, that is good. The scale is one through ten, and you have to be a
seriously big dog to get ten (amazon is a 9 - my highest PR has been a 7, but
now I'm at a 5 - gotta)

RE: [videoblogging] Must See Vlogs

2006-04-06 Thread Monique Danielle

I like
vlogs that fit one of the two criteria below:
1.
Very clver - http://www.moronlife.com
2.
Very personal/emotional/real. I can't think of an entire vlog that is like
this, as nobody has intense moments all the time. But I do like when I see a
spot like that.
