It absolutely is and it is by far the best OCR app for a blind person. Hi Ron, What you describe definitely does not work for me. If I double tap and hold on an app further up on the home screen it will of course go into moving/editing mode. I am in the level with the cold, the bear and the penguin and I cannot paste it because when I clap my hands to scare away the penguin often the gesture doe s not work at all... I have closed all other apps. does anyone has the same problem? does there exists a fix of some kind? thanks Andrea -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Moving Icons in the Last Row (was: Update is out!)
The problem isn't moving icons *to* that row, though. The problem is that icons that end up in that row can't be moved out of it, at least in most cases. RE: Phone Randomly Playing Music
Hi Brandon, I had this issue once and it started on a long flight back from Hong Kong to Vancouver. Many times when I stopped my Audible book with the headset remote, it would suddenly start playing again or vice versa. I finally realized that the headset was at fault. It was a rather old set of Apple Earpods and the wires must have come into contact at times creating the signal to start playing. When I arrived in Vancouver I stopped by an Apple Store and got a replacement headset which you can get for free if you have Apple Care. After that my problem was fixed. The only other scenario I can think of would be if you have a bluetooth keyboard which is turned on in your backpack and maybe keys are getting pressed by accident. The Apple Wireless keyboard is sort of notorious for that since it doesn’t have a mechanical on/off switch, just a button which gets easily pushed. It is the main reason why I got rid of it in favour of a Logitech K811. Regards, Sieghard From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Brandon A. Olivares Sent: Friday, January 30, 2015 8:21 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Phone Randomly Playing Music Hello, I’m having an odd problem on my iPhone 6. I have a set of earphones with a built-in microphone and which has the iTunes controls, where if you squeeze the mic part of the earphone cord it plays or pauses music. Anyway when I have the earphones plugged in, the phone will randomly play music without me touching anything. Also sometimes siri will get enabled and I’ll hear the double beep that indicates it is listening. Again this is all without me touching anything. Why could this be happening? It is incredibly inconvenient. Re: KNFB Reader drops to $49.99
hi, given financial constraints, I would like to say this:if you are someone who is well practised at aiming the camera,if you are someone who is used to OCR apps and getting good results, then, Prizmo, certainly, gives the KNFB reader a run For its money!but it is a little more fussy to use and doesn't have the same guidance that the KN FB reader has.textGrabber is also a brilliant app! And it has the added attraction of being really very cheap!indeed, particularly with envelopes or upsidedown text et cetera,I often flick from KNFB reader to one of the above two and get good results!however, I did already owned these two apps so it costs me nothing more to do this. One thing is certain though, the KNFB reader has enabled many many more people to get passible if not excellent results, whereas, before, they simply didn't.so, turning to the original question is it worth it?you hath to know yourself and your own capabilities to answer this one.if you are not an experienced iPhone/OCR user, then, I think, it is worth it especially at this new half price. just my thoughts, Sandy Sent from my iPhone On 31 Jan 2015, at 17:01, Malcolm Parfitt malc...@parfitt1.org.uk wrote: I completely agree, well worthit. Cardcast with Google ChromeCast Game Accessibility?
Hi, all,I don't have a Google Chromecast device, but my friends do, and they play Cards Against Humanity using Cardcast, which is available for iOS. Has anyone tried this? By the way, it's a party game that's basically a naughty version of Apples to Apples, so be warned. iTunes 12.1 for Windows
Anyone else stupid enough to have updated to iTunes 12.1? Searching in the app store with this latest version is even worse, if that were possible. I am using Window-Eyes and browse mode is completely useless. All I hear is top bottom after a search for an app. If I turn browse mode off and tab, I can get to the links for the app I searched for, but I can no longer navigate to the description, what's new section, etc. Don't think it matters, but this is Win 8.1 and Window-Eyes 9. At least with iTunes 12, I could toggle browse mode on and off and then get to the app and read the page just like I was in a web page. Now, the only thing I can do is tab between links. I cannot get to the headings or text. It appears Apple is intent on making iTunes less and less accessible on Windows computers. Re: Voice Dream Writer Anomalies
Hi, for the two-finger double-tap to work, you need to double-tap the Play button once so your phone knows this is the app whose audio you want to play. Then you should be able to use the two-finger double-tap to start and stop playback of that app. I hope that helps. Best, Anna On Jan 30, 2015, at 11:37 AM, Alan Lemly wale...@gmail.com wrote: I purchased Voice Dream Writer yesterday to take advantage of the $7.99 sale price. I'm running it on a 64GB iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.3. I'm running into some strange behavior with the app and am curious if others are experiencing anything similar. I was playing with the introductory document provided with the app and noticed that when I placed focus on the play button in the bottom center of the screen and then tried double tapping elsewhere on the screen to execute it, that nothing happened. I had to either split tap the play button or double tap precisely on it to start playback. I was under the impression that after giving a button focus, double tapping anywhere on the screen should cause its execution under default iOS VoiceOver rules. I decided to begin a new test document to check my typing with Writer. I am a long-time Fleksy VO user and admit I'm still looking for something that will let me type as fast as I can with Fleksy VO. I know that Writer is not an app designed for quick typing but it is a writing app so I thought I'd give it a whirl. After getting one sentence typed fairly slowly, I decided to check if I could zip over to Fleksy VO, type out a couple of sentences quickly, and then copy and paste them back into Writer. I discovered that with Writer running, Fleksy VO was pretty much incapacitated. The Fleksy VO keyboard did come up but pressing the keys resulted in no input at all. Fleksy VO was pretty much frozen. I then tried going to the App Switcher to jump back to Writer and instead of double tapping the Writer button in App Switcher causing it to open as is the normal behavior, it caused Writer to close. This also happened on other App Switcher apps I tried double tapping to open. They all closed as if I had done a 3-finger swipe up on them. I then tried going to various screens of my apps to launch other apps and it was clear that placing focus on an app icon and executing it was not working as it should under VoiceOver. I was getting similar behavior to what I experienced and previously described with the Writer play button. I had to reboot my phone by holding down the power and home buttons simultaneously to return to proper functioning. My experience with Writer and Fleksy Keyboard is giving me the feeling that whatever Apple had to do to enable developers to provide third-party keyboards was not fully tested with VoiceOver. When using one of these apps and then experiencing failure of normal VO gestures such as default actions when executing a button and the failure of the normal methods to initiate execution, I am very hesitant to experiment further with these apps. The potential cost is just too high for the marginal benefit of the app. I already deleted an entire important text message thread when trying the Fleksy keyboard because the default open action got stuck on delete when I tried opening a text message thread. I'm wondering how many iOS upgrades or app upgrades it's going to take to get third-party keyboards implemented with VoiceOver functioning properly. Have others experienced anomalies when using Writer similar or different to what I've described? I know there were several posts about the Voice Dream voices not working with Writer initially but if there were others which discussed other problems, I didn't see them. Same. I've tried combinations of moving, tapping, and so on, but I can't get apps to move. Sometimes it works the first time I try, but most of the time it doesn't. [New post] What’s the optimum way to charge your iPhone?
What’s the optimum way to charge your iPhone? by MacDailyNews [cfsp key=adsense_336x280]What’s the optimum way to charge your phone? Simon Hill asks for Digital Trends. 'The sweet spot for Lithium-ion batteries is to keep them charged between 50 and 80 percent. This allows for the charged ions to continue to work and protect the life of your battery,' says Shane Broesky, co-founder of Farbe Technik, a company that makes charging accessories. 'Charging your device in short spurts throughout the day will give these ions just enough energy to keep them going,' Hill reports. So frequent top ups, rather than one daily charge up is healthier for your battery, Hill reports. It’s not convenient, but that’s the optimal way to charge your smartphone if you want to ensure the longest life possible... 'Try to avoid going from 0 to 100 percent whenever possible, this will start to break down your battery and give your device a shorter lifespan.' Shane suggests. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: iTunes 12.1 for Windows
Well it does work with nvda. I am a user of window-eyes too, but I must say that in the last years they are not dooing a good job in general with theyr screen reader. Often nvda hugely surpasses we, expecially in web content. Il 31/01/2015 19.54, Richard Turner ha scritto: Anyone else stupid enough to have updated to iTunes 12.1? Searching in the app store with this latest version is even worse, if that were possible. I am using Window-Eyes and browse mode is completely useless. All I hear is “top bottom” after a search for an app. If I turn browse mode off and tab, I can get to the links for the app I searched for, but I can no longer navigate to the description, what’s new section, etc. Don’t think it matters, but this is Win 8.1 and Window-Eyes 9. At least with iTunes 12, I could toggle browse mode on and off and then get to the app and read the page just like I was in a web page. Now, the only thing I can do is tab between links. I cannot get to the headings or text… It appears Apple is intent on making iTunes less and less accessible on Windows computers. RE: Moving Icons in the Last Row (was: Update is out!)
I have had some success by moving an app from another page to the page where I want to move something out of the bottom row. If the bottom row is full, moving the app to that page seems to put it in the bottom row by default, and moves an app out of that row to another page. Once the app that was originally in the bottom row is now on another page, it can be moved where you want, although this can get a bit tricky. I hope that made sense. Anyway, I have managed to get apps where I want them, but it is certainly an annoying bug. Re: Moving Icons in the Last Row (was: Update is out!)
It does make sense, and I've resorted to that myself. The only thing is, you inevitably wind up with one app out of place: the one you moved to get the last one out of the bottom row. Here's hoping that the next update addresses this and other problems. iTunes 12
Hi all, I am hearing reports that iTunes 12.1 for Windows is not as accessible as it should be compared to iTunes 12. So here is one way you can get iTunes 12.0 back. Go here: www.oldapps.com http://www.oldapps.com/ Make sure you uninstall iTunes 12.1 and all components before installing iTunes 12.0. During the installation, mmake sure you tell it not to at least check for updates automatically. If you have paid for Ninite Updater ($9.99, www.ninite.com http://www.ninite.com/ ), tell it to ignore iTunes. I am obviously sorry to hear of this seemingly backward step, so let's hope Apple rectifies this in an update to iTunes 12.1 or even iTunes 12.2 or whatever the next minor version will be called. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: [New post] What’s the optimum way to charge your iPhone?
This is the exact same advice I and others have been recommending for years with respect to lithium ion batteries. Googling for information on lithium ion batteries turns up this advice time and time again. Lithium ion batteries do not suffer from the same memory affect as NiCad batteries. It's this memory affect that makes it sound advice to use up all of the charge in a NiCad battery before recharging it. You definitely don't want to do the same thing with lithium ion batteries. Note that you may still want to zero your battery to reset the battery indicator. I don't consider this advice to be contrary to the advice in the article below. Finally, this talks about optimum use. I would not be a slave to the advice below. I do follow this advice when it's convenient, but if I'm out and about, and I don't have the ability to top off my iPhone, I'll still use it because that's why I have it. Re: How do I save a number that is within a text message as a contact
I would do it the following way: 1. Open the text message and make sure vo is focussed on the content. 2. If the number is formatted right it should be a link. You can navigate to it by selecting links from the rotor menu. Note that the links option does not appear in the rotor unless you have a link in your text message and the focus is on it. 3. Flick down and you should land on the phone number. 5. Double-tap and hold on it and you should get a menu with one of the options being add to contacts. Here you should be fine either to create a new one or add to an existing one. If the phone number is not a link it is a bit more tricky. Nothing like the good old memory to remember it and mark it down manually in your contacts. Or, if it works out that the number is read out in one word, you can perform the 3 finger quadruple tap to copy last spoken voiceover item to clipboard and paste it in the desired contact. hth, Ioana Sent from my iPhone On Jan 31, 2015, at 4:41 PM, Jen Colley jencol...@hotmail.com wrote: Hi, \ A friend of mine just sent me another friend’s number in a text message. Re: KNFB Reader dropts to $49.99
Comparing KNFB Reader or any ocr app on the phone and a dedicated OCR software with a dedicated scanner on the pc is like comparing either is better to walk some miles to go to the nearest store or take a bus there. For me, there are some limitations for both phone apps and pc software. If you want the portability of a phone, with rather some 80% chance of a raather accurate result, then KNFB reader is your choice of OCR apps on the phone. But, if you have lots of time, and don't mind turning your computer, and spend some time on scanning and outputting the document, then of course, a dedicate OCR software that usually cost around $900 with a decent scanner that cost around $300 will be the way to go. Put everything about the software, hardware, and the technology aside, I very much believe that how well the OCR works on the phone is very much depending on how good your image quality may be. For example, i was playing on my friend's KNFB Reader on a 5 the other day. Both of us took the same picture of the same catalog. One of our pictures showed as no text, and another reads it all from the top to the bottom. And it was an A4 page with same lighting, on the same table, etc. The only different is that, he took the picture rather close to the catalog, with over expose, while mine was about 1 feet away from the catalog. RE: witch Plantronics ear piece is better for noise cancellation and use the m95 or the voyager edge
Hi, The battery case plugs in just as the Edge does with a micro SD plug. The Edge cord as you know has a USB on one end and the micro SD connection on the other. Plug the Edge into the battery case and plug the cord into your battery case instead of your Edge. Then plug the USB into your computer on the other end. As for how long I just plugged mine in and went to bed but I think they said it will charge in about 90 minutes. There are two apps that work with your edge if you have an iPhone. If you type Plantronics into the app store you can find them both with no problems. One I have never used I can't even remember what it is for. The other one is for settings and is pretty cool. It does work with Voice Over. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Pedometer App on iOS 8?
I had heard that iOS 8 had a pedometer app built into it. I went into the Health app and found the Steps section of that but I've been unable to figure out how to get it to track my steps. All I can see is a place to manually enter my steps which is not what I'm looking for. Does anyone know if iOS 8 has a pedometer app with it and how to get to and use it to automatically track steps walked? Thanks for any help. RE: Plantronics Voyager Legend with IOS 8.x
Re: the last message about the legend and Siri, I should have mentioned that Siri activates just fine when using the long press home button method. The issue I mentioned is only when attempting to activate Siri by pressing the call button for 2 seconds. Best regards, Rick Alfaro -Original Message- From: Rick Alfaro [mailto:rick.alf...@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, January 31, 2015 5:41 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Plantronics Voyager Legend with IOS 8.x I just purchased the Voyager Legend and have updated to the latest firmware. Generally, it's working well but I do have one consistent issue when attempting to use Siri. I can't get Siri to activate if VoiceOver is running. If I turn VO off, Siri works just fine. This is on an iPhone 6 plus running IOS 8.3. Any other Legend owners experiencing this? Any other anomalies I should be aware of between the Legend and an iPhone 6 running IOS 8.x? withc plantronics ear piece is better for noise canselation and use the m95 or the voyager edge
Hi I wet to best buy today and purchased the voyager edge but haven't used it yet. But have read some reviews on it and they have said that the voyager edge has good noise cancellation and sound good on both ends of A call and has good batgter life. Now I was also thinking about the m95 so does anyone hear have this ear piece and if so how do you like it. Also if you could pick between the voyager edge and the m95 what would you select and why? I haven't used my edge yet but still looking at reviews online for both. But I would like to hear from people that have used either or both of these ear pieces for some advice also. -- Casey -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Facebook settings issue.
Hello list, I have been using Facebook for IOS. I am stil on iphone 4, IOS 7. I know when some people post a status on Facebook, their friends can see the location where they are. My friends told me that the location appears automaticaly when the status is updated, but at first some settings must be done. One of my friends told me to open settings/facebook/settings and I should have the following: * allow access to Facebook, * location button, * notifications button, * refreshing apps in the background, * using mobile data, * upload HD video, * version number. I have only the last two items in facebook settings - * upload HD video, and * version number. I have tried a few things to get it fixed - uninstalling and installing facebook, deleting facebook account and I also put the phone to default (factory) settings as if it is a new phone and I took all data and settings from the icloud backup, but nothing helped, I stil don't have all Facebook settings like others do. Please, if anyone knows how to figure it out, let me know. Thank you for your help in advance. With kind regards Maria -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Facebook settings issue.
Maria, Perhaps you could look under settings/General/privacy/location based services and allow or disallow Facebook?A word of warning though, having your location known on Facebook might be a little bit risky?something to think about anyway… Sandy Sent from my iPhone On 31 Jan 2015, at 12:15, Mária Orovčíková maria.orovcik...@gmail.com wrote: Hello list, I have been using Facebook for IOS. Re: Facebook settings issue.
Maria, go into settings, on your phone, not just in fb. Go to privacy and then location services. Turn this on, if not already. You will then see a list of apps using your location. Turn any of them off or on with a double tap.
