Hi Richard,
What do you think torch means. Is that something to do with the light?

Lisa,
Thank you for the suggestion of Color Inspector.
My wife, the quilter, pulled out a bunch of fabric and she was impressed with
how accurate it is as well as extremely fast.
A couple hints.
Hold the camera steady until you hear the same color two or three times in a
row.
I have it on my iPod Touch 6th and I have the torch on low.
Since it is very fast and constant, a two finger double tap will pause it and
give you the current color name and color concentration.
Then, you can double tap on the menu button in the upper right and adjust the
zoom level, the color detection area and the torch level.
If you have hints on, or maybe even if you don't, wait a little while after
flicking to one of the settings and it will tell you what the next setting is
for that item, which you double tap to activate of course.
So, it might say "normal zoom" then the hint is "switch to 2x zoom, etc.

I have not been bothered by any ads, so just going with the free app seems to
work perfectly fine.
If you double tap on support/app info, and then on remove ads, you find out
that the price is up to you. It has several prices that you can choose from
if you want to support the developer.
It was updated last June when VoiceOver support was added.

I'm very impressed.

Richard

Hi. I have an app called Light detector that is either free or around $1 U.S.
This will let you know if lights are on and it can give you a percentage of
light by touching the screen. It will also raise or lower the tone according
to how bright the light is and it can be used to find flashing lights or even
LEDS if you are familiar with your phone enough to not block the camera while
finding and positioning the phone in relation to the LED.

The best color I.D. app I've tried is called Color Inspector. There's a free
and a paid version with no ads. This app lets you adjust the brightness of the
flashlight as well as zoom in on the area you're wanting to know the color of.

As far as names, this app will use regular names for colors as far as red,
blue, green, etc., but it can be more detailed, using turquoise or sea green
for the color Jade, for example. Some of this depends on how bright the
flashlight is and how close the phone is to the article being described

Out of the several color ID apps I've tried, Color Inspector is the easiest and
provides detailed colors without being too complex.

So I recently purchased a small device known as The Rainbow II; color
identifier and light detector. I bought it from Amazon for $70.00 plus about
$4.00 shipping. I think this is by far, the absolute best color id and light
detector on the market today. This little thing even blows the Colorino away.
It's only about two inches tall, one and a quarter inch wide and one half inch
thick. Plus on the top it has a one and a half inch strap with a key ring. Very
handy and it works lightning fast. Just hold the bottom of the unit right down
on the object in question, and press the large tactile button. Bingo! Less than
one second and it verbally tells you the color! I think one of the reasons that
smart phone color ID apps don't work too well; is you hold the camera up and
off of the object in question. Allowing light and shadows to affect the
reading. With the Rainbow, you press the unit right on said object in question.

I have an app on my phone calledMusic2Go, Andre Rocha, Version 1.2.
It is VO friendly. For me, the easiest way to get a song from the phone to the
computer is to use the email option of the app. After each song there is an
export button. Then you can choose various options. When I chose mail it
automatically opened an email with the song attached. I just had to tap send
and it was done. It might be slow if you have a lot of songs to transfer, but
it works. You would have to open the email on your computer and save the
attachments. Then you could add them to iTunes. As far as I know you cannot
sync songs from your phone to iTunes because it will erase the ones on the
phone when you sync. Sent from Sherrie's iPhone

RE: Locating an App's Page Number on my iPhone 7

2017-05-13 Thread Alan Lemly
Sieghard,

Thanks for your suggestion. I just bit the bullet and swiped through one app at
a time until I had located the couple I wanted to delete. That was probably the
best thing to do anyway because it made me review the plethora of aps on my
iPhone. I probably should do some more housekeeping.

Hi Alan,

I don't think there is a way to do this, I just tried spotlight search and
while it finds an app I search for, just as with handwriting it does not tell
you on what page it is and tapping on it will simply open the app.

Easiest way might be to hook your iPhone up to the computer, go to the device
area and then to apps, you should find a list view of all your apps and as you
arrow through this list it will tell you if an app is installed on your phone
or not. You can uncheck those you don't want, then tab to Apply and if you
unchecked a dozen apps those will all be gone.

Sieghard

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I prefer not grouping my apps by folders
since I really don't want to invest the time that will require. I'm hoping
there is a more efficient way to locate on which page numbered screen a

RE: ITunes on Windows Seeking a more efficient way to create playlists

2017-05-13 Thread Alan Lemly
Gerardo,

I don't know if my suggestion is more efficient or not but it possibly might
save you some time depending on how your music is organized in your iTunes
library. iTunes has the ability to create what it calls Smart Playlists which
might save you some time if your library is organized by album as I believe the
default approach is when ripping albums with iTunes. At least in my iTunes
library, my music is organized in the following folder structure: My
Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Artist Name\Album Title with Artist Name and
Album Title replaced with appropriate values. So let's say I have the album
Aerosmith's Greatest Hits in my library and I want to create a Smart Playlist
of it. Here are the steps I would follow on my Windows 7 desktop running iTunes
12.6:

1. Select the File menu.

2. Select new from the file menu.

3. Select Smart Playlist from the new submenu.

4. This opens a dialog box with the default first item ticked to match
Music in the drop-down box which is what you want.

5. Next, you have the first rule drop-down box which has a default setting
of Artist and in my example, I fill in the text box with Aerosmith so the first
rule states that Artist contains Aerosmith.

6. After filling the value in for the artist, tabbing once lands you on
the add button which you execute to add another rule.

7. The drop-down box defaults to a value of Artist again for the second
rule and I selected Album from the drop-down and typed Greatest Hits in the box
specifying what Album contains.

8. I then executed the Ok button to complete the rules and a new dialog
opens to name the playlist.

9. I then had a playlist in iTunes meeting the rules established in
creating the Smart Playlist.

I don't know if you'll find that more efficient or not but I wanted to put it
out there as an alternative.

I hope this helps.

Subject: ITunes on Windows Seeking a more efficient way to create playlists

I'm retaking the use of ITunes after almost 6 years of not used it for music
purposes, to put music on my 5S; I'm wanting to create playlists based on how I
have music folders organized on my Laptop, thus the process I follow for this
is; I mentioned the process, hoping maybe there's a faster way?

1.-Songs are already imported inITunes, for this example a folder
calledOldies, which I'm wanting Track1 on the playlist to be Pretty Woman by
RoyOverton, Track2 Over the BoardWalk, Track3 Diamond Ring, songs which somehow
got put at the very top of the list, thus I select those three, and from the
Context menu, create the Oldies Playlist,

2.-Continuing creating thePlaylist, I'd like Track4 to be "The Wanderer",
Track5 "My Girl", so I tab toSearch Edit box, and type in "Wanderer" and
down-arrow to let the song come up, and use thecontext menu to add it to the
Oldies Playlist;

3.-Following the same Search process until I finish the playlist to
mysatisfaction.

Is this the way to do this, or is there a more-efficient way I might not know
of forcreating playlists using ITunes for Windows?

Hey Sieghard, A big time hats off for putting it out that you'll be the go

BTW: Did you ever conversate with a blind guy that worked for the US social

Hi David,

Where abouts in Canada are you? I am in northern BC and also had a look at the
Rainbow II. I wrote to Edmundson Engineering, the makers of this device, and
even though it is Saturday I received a prompt reply and they said that if I
were to order it directly from them either online using Paypal or by phone
using a credit card they would ship it to Canada First Class Mail. I replied
with my address and asked them to give me an idea as to how much shipping would
be. I also asked them to tell me if it would cost the same to send 2 units
because I thought if that is so maybe I could order both and then send one to
you. Normally I would have sent this to you privately, but I know there are
other canadians on the list, if anybody is interested in one of these we could
even do this with more numbers. I have a retail business and for the last
couple of years ago have my website up and running and we do more internet
orders so I ship by Canada Post Expedited Parcel post. This is trackable and a
small package here in BC is usually around $12 or $13, it's a few Dollars more
if it goes to Alberta or more to the east, but I could give you an exact
shipping cost if I had your address. Payment could be either by Interac email
money transfer or I could put these up on my own website where you could order
using Visa/Mastercard, your debit card/bank account via Interac Online or
Paypal.
Anybody interested let me know. I have a Colorino which can do about 150
colours, but for somebody who doesn't have one yet I think 40 colours is just
fine and this one is a lot cheaper. I am primarily interested because I never
found my Colorino did very well with LED lights and this one claims it can do
that which could be handy.

Sieghard

I've downloaded and used a few of these color identifying apps, and I don't
think they work well enough to use at all. They title basic colors with strange
names and just don't seem that reliable for me.
So no light or shadows to play with.

If you point it at a suspected light source and press the button; it'll say for
instance, if I point it up at my kitchen's fluorescent ceiling lights; "Green
Light". Now point it at my kitchen table's table lamp, with a regular old light
bulb in it, and it'll say "Yellow Light".

I use my Rainbow every day with zero problems and find its accuracy 100%!

I can't tell you how many free color ID apps, and some pay color ID apps I've
tried in the past, with crap results. The Rainbow II is great and you can put
it on your key ring.

Why is .iCloud more proprietory than .me? I guess she can always set up a gmail

could go and register your own domain, but that is a lot of work and some cost

If you created an account with one of Apple's earlier services, that address

apple ID. I also couldn't remember my security answers. I was pretty sure I
had the password right, but since I had given up the old e-mail address, there
was no way to get the confirmation e-mail.

I figure I gave up $50 at least in apps I'd bought.

If you solve this problem, I'd be interested in knowing how.

Thanks,
Lois

2017-05-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,
Sieghard

I've downloaded and used a few of these color identifying apps, and I don't
think they work well enough to use at all. They title basic colors with strange
names and just don't seem that reliable for me.

Afik,

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I prefer not grouping my apps by folders
since I really don't want to invest the time that will require. I'm hoping
there is a more efficient way to locate on which page numbered screen a
particular app is located if someone can provide those directions. Otherwise,
I'll be swiping through one app at a time until I locate those I want to delete.

If you created an account with one of Apple's earlier services, that address

If Apple didn't move everything to the new account, I'd called Apple

That sounds very much like an Apple caused problem.

I hope it works out.

RE: IOS Apps;

2017-05-13 Thread Richard Turner
Lisa,
Thank you for the suggestion of Color Inspector.

Richard

Hi. I have an app called Light detector that is either free or around $1
U.S. This will let you know if lights are on and it can give you a
percentage of light by touching the screen. It will also raise or lower the
tone according to how bright the light is and it can be used to find
flashing lights or even LEDS if you are familiar with your phone enough to
not block the camera while finding and positioning the phone in relation to
the LED.

The best color I.D. app I've tried is called Color Inspector. There's a
free and a paid version with no ads. This app lets you adjust the
brightness of the flashlight as well as zoom in on the area you're wanting
to know the color of.

As far as names, this app will use regular names for colors as far as red,
blue, green, etc., but it can be more detailed, using turquoise or sea green
for the color Jade, for example. Some of this depends on how bright the
flashlight is and how close the phone is to the article being described

Out of the several color ID apps I've tried, Color Inspector is the easiest
and provides detailed colors without being too complex.

RE: Siri issues.

2017-05-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I find sometimes SIRI is a bit crazy or unreliable it resolves itself after a
few days. It could be Apple is upgrading some servers or SIRI itself, you can
definitely try to close all apps and do a reboot, if that doesn't help you can
try a reset network settings which would require you to reconnect to your WiFi
or you can also turn off SIRI and dictation, then reboot your phone and then
turn them back on.

RE: Old Apple ID Showing Up in App Store

2017-05-13 Thread Richard Turner
It sounds like those apps were gotten with the old Apple ID.
If Apple didn't move everything to the new account, I'd called Apple
Accessibility and see if they can't sort that out.
That sounds very much like an Apple caused problem.

I hope it works out.

Richard

I changed my Apple ID and password at least a year ago in all the
sections, including iTunes and App stores, and this is confirmed in
Settings. I just attempted to update several apps in the App Store, but
it showed the old Apple ID and wanted the old password, which I cannot
now seem to enter correctly. First, I don't understand why the old
Apple ID is coming up now, when the change to the new Apple ID is
clearly indicated in the Settings. Second, is there any solution to
this problem?

RE: Siri issues.

Two things.
Have you closed all your apps out of the app switcher? I know some have
reported lately that it doesn't matter, but I can say I've had multiple times
when things are not working right and when I clear the app switcher, they work
again.
Also, have you tried powering off your phone and waiting about 30 seconds and
powering back up?

Re: Setting up new Apple email?

2017-05-13 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Bob,

If you created an account with one of Apple's earlier services, that address
will still work, which is why me.com addresses work. I'm
pretty sure that if you're creating an account now, though, it will be iCloud.
I don't think there are any other options.

Best,
Anna

Re: IOS Apps;

2017-05-13 Thread Richard Turner

The Rainbow II is definitely the best color identifier I've seen. More on that
later.
Boop Light Detector is free, and a great app for checking if a light is on.
There is also one just called Light Detector that is ¢99 which also works great.
I know the color identification is not perfect, but TapTapSee or iDentifi do a
great job with patterns, be it flowers, stripes, whatever. I have a shirt that
is mostly blue but it has a pattern of fish around the hem and it even knew
they were piranha.
Back to the Rainbow II. The head of Emerson Electronics is a woman who is
blind, and her husband is the head engineer. He designed the Rainbow II for her.
Also, my wife is a quilter. She recently made a quilt with 145 different
fabrics.
The Rainbow II was able to identify most of the various shades. It does not
waste time with odd names.
HTH,
Richard

New update to Alexa iOS app brings voice calling to any Echo

2017-05-13 Thread Robin Christopherson
Dear listers

In the last couple of days in the US (not yet in the UK but should be any day
now) the Alexa iOS app got an update so now, even if you don’t have an Amazon
Echo or Echo Dot yourself, you can call anyone with an Echo or even anyone who
just has the app installed and doesn’t own an Echo. You can also do voice
messaging and text messaging. Of course people with Echos can do this Echo to
Echo too. Calling someone by voice alone is the coolest thing and Randy and
Jason, my very first guest contributers, demonstrate it in action on today’s
Dot to Dot episode so please do check it out.

Thanks, Robin

Hello Lea,

My favorite journaling app for iOS is called MacJournal. This app consistently
remains 100% VoiceOver accessible and is extremely flexible and intuitive.

As the name suggest, it does have a companion Mac OS X app but either can be
used without the other. I've been using the iOS app for more than two years
and have still not yet purchased the Mac OS X version.

Give it a try and good luck on your endeavor.

Hi all,
Thank you so much for any help and or suggestions. Does anyone know of a good
way to keep a journal and record things as they happen while you are out.
Somethings might be private and personal, so does anyone have any suggestions?
I have some thoughts, but I thought I would consult the list and see if someone
could come up with something better than I can.
Thank you,
God bless,

ITunes on Windows Seeking a more efficient way to create playlists

2017-05-13 Thread Gerardo Corripio
I'm retaking the use of ITunes after almost 6 years of not used it for
music purposes, to put music on my 5S; I'm wanting to create playlists
based on how I have music folders organized on my Laptop, thus the
process I follow for this is; I mentioned the process, hoping maybe
there's a faster way?
1.-Songs are already imported inITunes, for this example a folder
calledOldies, which I'm wanting Track1 on the playlist to be Pretty
Woman by RoyOverton, Track2 Over the BoardWalk, Track3 Diamond Ring,
songs which somehow got put at the very top of the list, thus I select
those three, and from the Context menu, create the Oldies Playlist,
2.-Continuing creating thePlaylist, I'd like Track4 to be "The
Wanderer", Track5 "My Girl", so I tab toSearch Edit box, and type in
"Wanderer" and down-arrow to let the song come up, and use thecontext
menu to add it to the Oldies Playlist;
3.-Following the same Search process until I finish the playlist
to mysatisfaction.
Is this the way to do this, or is there a more-efficient way I might
not know of forcreating playlists using ITunes for Windows?

Hello Liz,

KNFBReader is great for reading print books, especially if you have the Fopydo
stand with book reading attachment. I can sit in my comfortable armchair with
the Fopydo on my lap and read a book using KNFBReader on my iPhone SE. The book
reading attachment for the Fopydo stand means that you can be turning to the
next double-page while listening to the pages you’ve just scanned.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: KNFB reader and ScanJig stand.

2017-05-13 Thread Anne Robertson

Cheers,

Anne

Setting up new Apple email?

2017-05-13 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
MrsH is trying to set up a new Apple email account. I know they changed the
option of what .com one can have. I still have a
me.com. But she can't find an option beyond icloud.com. I thought there was
more, and still included the legacy me.com too.

Help on where and how to select would really be appreciated just now.

Thanks, BobH.
