Re: GoogleVoice?
This sounds good and I do have a google email account of course; but logging in, this involves the account password too no doubt? I long since forgot it and last time I checked, it had a capture in order to have it reset. I had the email settings saved in an .IAF file which is a windows thing for saving and importing email account settings into the various MS mailers; I'm still on outlook Express. so the .IAF is the only copy of something with the password and it works, but I couldn't login with it. So where does that leave me? though reckon I can work out the answer to that. Re: Problem with new iPhone 5
Hi Sieghard, thanks for the advice. How did you convince them to give you a new phone and not a refurbished one? I know I'm being a bit picky, but I got a replacement 5 in the mail because the phone rattled when I shook it. This brand new unit doesn't rattle, but there's another problem. The vibration motor is rather weak and doesn't deliver the same smooth, consistent performance as the previous 5 did. When the phone vibrates it sounds as though other components in the phone are jiggling around; for example, holding my hand on the silent switch makes the vibration sound a bit better. I'm not doing a very good job of describing the symptoms, but you'd know what I'm talking about if you could hear it. I wonder if there's anything that a genius could do besides replacing the phone? As this phone doesn't rattle I'd like to keep this one, if the vibration problems can be ironed out. What do you guys think? Re: Home Security Systems
Hi there, I don’t know the name of the system as the components might have different names but over all I believe it to be called the safe watch 3000 with a pulse account. Yes the account has a pass word when you call in to verify you are who you say you are and the app has a password that is used both in it and on the web portal as well as a numeric code for the keypad of the alarm system itself. Any of these can be changed at will at any time. In my case I would be interested in what they offer for businesses as I don’t really need a security system at home, but I do have one at my retail business. Another thing I’d be interested in is the security of the security system so to speak. Is that app protected by a password? If not anybody could disarm your system who takes your iPhone away from you. I recently spoke with a Chubb representative and he said that Chubb who is much more into commercial security and access control doesn’t yet offer anything like this for that reason and while the convenience sounds great, I’d like to know it’s save to the point that some hacker can’t gain access to it. I’m glad to say that my misgivings based upon his lack of knowledge were unfounded and that the app is very easy with which to deal as is their web based portal for controlling the system as well. Hi Che, After you attach your device and select it, tab until you get to music. Hit enter. Then tab down. The first check box is sync music. Make sure this is checked. The next thing will be to check entire library or Playlists, artist, genres. Select the second one. Tab until you get to the playlist. Once there, you use your arrow up and arrow down to move through this, checking and unchecking the playlists you'd like. After that, you can do the same with artists or genres. I have other playlists in my main sources music list that I want on the phone, but do not see how one copies those over to the device. Apparently you are supposed to be able to select playlists somehow in your main music souces and then sync the phone, so far for me, this is a total fail. The best I've done is to open the music under my device in another window, then go back to the main music source, and copy and paste individual songs with control c and v, this does not work with playlists however. I have imported my entire music library, and created playlists. My main issue right now is selecting a playlist or multiple playlists at once to sync to my iphone. From what I've read, it seems you go to your playlist, then control enter on it to checkmark it, then do a sync. Sounds simple enough, but everytime I do control enter on a playlist, it says You must be in a list to make a selection What am I missing here? Using latest version of iTunes with Jaws 13 and blindTunes. Any and all help greatly appreciated. No matter what the solution is to this problem, I gotta say this has been one of the most frustrating pieces of software I've ever used, and I really don't understand why this is. For such an integral piece of software for so many people, the docs and methods for using iTunes with jaws are simply pitiful. Perhaps I just haven't had that Aha! Hi, you can also do this through GV Connect. Re: Can I Password Protect a Dropbox File
Raul, you are right on with what I want to accomplish. I would like to have a list of my passwords and usernames. Yesterday I took a look at key pass, which you had recommended. Although it looks like it may do what I want, I have no idea how to make it work. It really looks as though it was written for users far more knowledgeable than me. I just simply want to have a copy of usernames and passwords wherever I happen to need them, on the iPhone or PC, et cetera. I am currently using the keeper program on the iPhone. I sure agree with you that they spam their users. However, that program does not seem to work on windows XP and JAWS,. On my PC, I am using a simple little database program called pass keeper this means that every time I add an account or change any information I have to remember to do it in both places. Thanks for any additional information. I did not look at the many pass, but maybe it is written for us basic kind of users. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Keeping track of passwords across multiple platforms - Was Re: Can I Password Protect a Dropbox File
Hello Eric, Rick, and others who are interested in password syncing and keeping them handy. Here's what I highly recommend. MiniKeePass from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/minikeepass-secure-password/id451661808?mt=8. Here's why. First, download the KeePass program for your PC from http://keepass.info/ and install it. I will cover using the iOS version, but first will cover the PC side of things. I just go with the version 1.x version and it works very well. When I open this program in Windows I create a new database. You can call it whatever you want. Your name is probably a good choice. This file will have a .kdb extension. This file can be saved in Dropbox so that you have access to it from MiniKeePass from your iOS device. Keep in mind that the MiniKeePass app doesn't read the dropbox located file directly, instead you have to use an app like Dropbox to open the file, and MiniKeePass will be one of the choices. Or, the other thing you can do is upload it from the iTunes file sharing when your device is connected. This isn't exactly automatic syncing, but as long as you know this, and as long as you remember to update the file after making a change either from the iDevice or the PC, then you will be good to go. Although the bulk of my message is on how to use the iOS app, some of it will cover using the PC version, which BTW, is very accessible with Window-Eyes on Windows 7. I would imagine it should be similarly accessible with other screen readers. First, the PC. When you run the program, and you already have a database file handy, you are prompted to open it using your password. Please keep in mind that if you lose the password, you are SOL, because this is all local, unlike LastPass or 1password, and there is no reset tool. Once the file is open, you have a general category and various subcategories. Just so you know, I got rid of all the subcategories and have everything in general. You can press delete to delete something. When you are at the general section, tab twice to get to the actual entries. Now you can use first letter navigation to get to what you cant, or you can arrow to the one you want. By default it will show the name of the entry, your user name, and the url. The password, for security reasons is now shown. I believe that Rick was asking how you do the actual login. Here's where it uses some manual switching because it's not automagic like LastPass. To copy the user name to the clipboard, press control-b. To copy the password press control-c, to open the url press control-u. So, what I do, since in most cases I know the user name and don't need to copy it, is press control-c to copy the password, then control-u to open the url. Because KeePass is awesome and secure, the password is removed from the clipboard after about 10 seconds. I don't remember if this timing can be changed. So, if you are a bit slower, open the url of the site you want to log into, type your user name, and when you are ready for the password, alt-tab to the Keepass entry and press control-c for the password, and then alt-tab to the web page where you are ready for the password and press control-v to paste. I use a clipboard manager to store copied information, and even using that, the password is removed from the clipboard memory after a bit. I really like that feature. Of course, you should add an entry before you use this, right? I should have mentioned that first. To add a new entry into your KeePass database, press control-y. Now type the name of the entry. Let's say Apple ID. Press tab to reach the user name and type that in. In my case it might be some-em...@gmail.com. Next press tab and you will reach the password entry. You can type the password you already use, or you can press tab to the button which Window-Eyes just reads as button and press space on it. This is the random password generator button. KeePass is very good about the random passwords it generates for you. Obviously you only want to use this when creating a new account on a web site, or if you are changing an existing account's password. In any case, after the password edit box and random button, pressing tab again takes you to the confirmation edit box. Either manually type your existing password in again, or just skip it if you used the random generator since it will already be in there. Now tab to get to the url edit box. Type in the url, example. http://appleid.apple.com and then press tab. This will take you to notes. you can put notes in here to talk about your entry. For example when I added my bank entry, this is where I put in my routing number, account number, and visa debit card number. The rest of the things you can do when adding a new entry are more advanced and not used by me, so I won't cover them. However you can attach a file to the entry, maybe a picture of a card, or photo ID, or whatever. In any case, the user name, password, url, and
Re: Can I Password Protect a Dropbox File
Hi, if you want something really simple, then Strip Lite or Strip might fit the bill. The paid version if $5 and it will sync to Dropbox. However I really recommend MiniKeePass, which I just wrote a long message about. It's complex if you want it to be, but if you want to keep passwords and user names secure on you iDevice, then I think it's the way to go. -- Raul A. I think ihave the hang of the rules but not sure if i can explain them. basically all the lanes are minus 20 points, so you need to build up the points by adding cards. Here's what I highly recommend. MiniKeePass from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/minikeepass-secure-password/id451661808?mt=8 . So, what I do, since in most cases I know the user name and don't need to copy it, is press control-c to copy the password, then control-u to open the url. Because KeePass is awesome and secure, the password is removed from the clipboard after about 10 seconds. I don't remember if this timing can be changed. This will take you

moving apps out of a folder
hi all, Well I decided to start organizing my iphone today. I had 4 apps that were related, so I figured I would put them all into a folder. Well I am a little fat-fingered, so I dragged the second app onto the first and that created the folder without a problem. Next, I dragged the fourth onto the third instead of onto the folder just created, so now I have 2 folders with the same name each having 2 apps in it. How do I go about moving the contents of the second folder into the first folder? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: ivona?
Hi guys. Unfortunately, Ivona doesn't have any plans to release voices for the Mac or iPhone. On your Mac, you can try these new voices I found out about called Cereproc. They sound more human compared to Nuance or Acapela. On your iPhone, however, since Apple has restricted third party developers from making voices for the entire IOS, I'm afraid your stuck with Nuance. -- Shawn Sent from my white MacBook using SamNet -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Everything is local, meaning you don't have to sign up with an account. You can keep your database in Dropbox if you wish and myKeePass will import the file into itself from there if you wish. 2. Strip. This app has been around for years and has been available in different formats for different phones. For the iPhone you get 2 versions, Strip Lite and Strip. The Lite version has a limit of 10 entries and the regular $5.00 version doesn't have the limitation, and it also has syncing capabilities with things like dropbox or file sharing. The links follow. It was quite frustrating until I realized that if I tapped save and went back in to edit the record, I could then get the cursor to move to the field I wanted. Hi, and if you go with MiniKeePass, you can give a read to the message I posted earlier today where I give several steps on using it. MiniKeePass. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/minikeepass-secure-password/id451661808?mt=8 This app will read database files generated from KeePass, which is a PC or Mac app you can get to store various personal pieces of information as well as web site logins and passwords. Strip Lite, https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/strip-lite-password-manager/id316822267?mt=8 and Strip paid version, https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/strip-password-manager/id316817719?mt=8 I know this doesn't answer your question directly, but I would highly recommend these as alternatives and the password to lock them is alpha-numeric, meaning letters and or numbers if you wish. -- Raul A. This app allows you to organize them in folders like work stuff, social media etc. The only issue I've encountered is while filling out the fields for each new record, when you double tap a field to edit, sometimes the cursor doesn't move to the new field and you end up typing additional stuff in the prior field. It was quite frustrating until I realized that if I tapped save and went back in to edit the record, I could then get the cursor to move to the field I wanted. I think I will be emailing the developer about this issue because other than that I like the app very much and will upgrade to the paid version if that problem is addressed in a future version. where have all the pictures gone?
Hi, after I transferred a bunch of photos from my windows7 laptop to my iphone using itunes, I can't find the photos on my phone. Where did they go? Do I have to move them one folder at a time? I tried moving a top-level folder from my pc to the phone, but that doesn't seem to have worked. any tips would be appreciated. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. the big jam box or the Bose sound link mobil speker
Hi I am now trying to decide whether to get the big jam box. Or the Bose sound link Mobil speaker for my I Phone. I have the small jam box but that sounds like a transistor radio. I have a dock but I really don't use it much. Because to charge my I Phone I have to take it completely out of its case and then charge it. So if I could get either the big jam box Mobil speaker or the Bose sound link Mobil speaker. So if anyone out here has listened to or owns what of these units? What made you choose to purchase either one of these units? Also what are your thoughts on either one of these units? Wis of these to speakers would give me the better sound and battery life? I guess I would like to get the best sound that I could for what I may have to spend on either one of these units. So thank you all and I will look forward to reading all of your responses on this. -- Casey -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Focus 14 comments
I have had the Focus 14 demo unit for a couple of days. I'm pasting below the physical layout description from the manual and adding my comments about its use with the iDevices in the appropriate places. I will precede my comments with my initials: RT. Physical Layout On the left side of the display, going from front to back, you will find a round Power button and a standard micro USB port. The USB port allows you to connect the display to a computer using the supplied USB cable, or to the AC adapter. RT: The power button is not round, but oblong. The refreshable braille cells are located toward the front of the unit. There is a cursor routing button above each braille cell. At each end of the display's surface are NAV Rockers used for easy navigation. RT: The left Nav Rocker moves the cursor according to the rotor setting, just like a single finger flick up or down. The Right Nav Rocker, is the same as a single finger flick right or left, goes to the next or previous item. Positioned above each NAV Rocker is a mode button. RT: These both do the same as a double tap to activate an item. When used with a computer they change what the Nav Rocker will do. Positioned directly above the cursor routing buttons, there are eight keys similar to those on a Perkins-style braille keyboard. The eight braille keys from left to right are: 7, 3, 2, 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8. These keys are used to enter commands. On the front edge, directly under and in the center of the display is a SPACEBAR. This key is used together with the braille keys when entering commands. RT: The space bar juts out a little from the device so it is very easy to find. The keys are fanned out in an ergonomic design that is very comfortable to type on. On the front edge of the Focus display are the following controls, located from left to right: Left selector button RT: activates the back button if present Left rocker bar RT: Moves up or down one page (same as a three finger swipe) Left panning button RT: pans the braille left. Left SHIFT key Right SHIFT key RT: Both Work as a shift key, which is handy when contractions are off and you are entering passwords. Right panning button RT: Pans braille right Right rocker bar RT: moves one screen left or right, (same as a three finger side swipe) Right selector button RT: Same as a two finger double tap. the unit only weighs about 8 ounces and comes with a case so that you can keep it slung around your neck and use while in the case. For those who care, the keys and buttons are blue and the rest is black. The outside of the case is blue and the inside is black. My wife says it is very stylish. I am very impressed with how well it works with the iPhone. I believe it only works with iOS 6 and above. Part of me wishes it had a few more braille sells and perhaps a mini notepad function with an SD card built-in, but I personally don't think you can beat it for portability and functionality with the Apple devices. Some may find the feel a little toy-like because of the plastic feel, but that always comes down to personal preference, as really does all of this. A further note on braille. I just learned that the Braille Authority of North America has officially adopted the Unified English Braille Code (UEBC) and will begin to gradually move to that code for future literary braille. In their press release, they mentioned that UEBC is already available on the Apple iDevices. That is true if the country you live in has already adopted UEBC. For example, if you are using a braille display and you have the Australian language selected, and you turn contractions on, you are using UEBC. It is not yet available if you are using the United States voice. I was told I'd have to set my region to Australia but I discovered that simply switching to the Australian voice is enough to engage the UEBC braille table. I hope this was helpful. Nice description. I don't think I would want to go below 18 cells myself and wish I could have more but am still glad to have this much with my refreshabraille. It's possible there would be some things I would like better in the layout of the Focus 14, though that's hard to tell without actually handling it, but I wouldn't be willing to lose 4 cells. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. RE: transferring playlist to iphone from iTunes
Hi tom, It looks like mine works a bit differently than what your describing here, but knowing I needed to go down to my device to choose the playlist was a big help. Another thing that has been a hinderance I think is that even though I set jaws to beginner verbosity, it is not teling me items are collapsable, or levels of items, etc. Anyhow, was finally able to sync up a playlist and afterwards know why it worked. RE: transferring playlist to iphone from iTunes
I still flounder line a trout on a line from time to time. Itunes is not your normal windows program, but I get around. I found it wasiest to add and remove songs from a playlist, instead of checking and unchecking individual songs. Here is something else that may help. Once you have a playlist, you can choose songs from your windows explorer and paste them into your playlist. It adds them to your playlist and your master list. Another thing that has been a hinderance I think is that even though I set jaws to beginner verbosity, it is not teling me items are collapsable, or levels of items, etc. Anyhow, was finally able to sync up a playlist and afterwards know why it worked. Tab until you get to the playlist. Once there, you use your arrow up and arrow down to move through this, checking and unchecking the playlists you'd like. Re: Focus 14 comments
The EuroBraille has such a notepad feature built-in. It is a nicely sturdy Braille display that comes in 12, 20, or 40 cells. Notes and such are maintained on an SD card. My only problem with the display is the Braille keyboard is round buttons a little larger than the tip of the finger. That said, I am seriously considering acquiring one after my current display dies. Re: Focus 14 comments
Thanks for the Focus description. This one is on my short list when I get the money to be able to put to that priority. In fact it is the first one I am considering at this point. It is still a chunk of change and I am a bit fearful about what will happen in January and what impact it will have on finances if congress doesn't decide to have the peoples' interest in mind soon, but that is probably saying too much about something not to talk about here. My concern comes from the news and no other source, just for the record. Why does unfriend not show up as an option for every friend on Facebook app?
I am trimming down my FB friends, and I am noticing that for no discernible reason, the unfriend option is not available for some people. Rather than the usual options when I select friends, I get mutual friends and friends of . . . insert name of selected friend. There does not seem to be a way to unfriend these individuals. RE: Focus 14 comments
Richard this is a very nice description of the Focus 14. I agree with everything you say. I would add one thing, however. I find that because of the small size of the display when I try to do Braille navigation with the front buttons depending on the surface the unit is sitting on it tends to slide around a bit. I would like to have some rubber feet on the bottom of the unit and/or on the bottom of the case similar to the Braille Note. I would like to see Executive Products design a nice leather case for the unit as they have for a lot of other devices as I am not overly fond of the design of the case that comes with the unit. Overall, though, this is a very nice unit and does work well with I devices. For example, if you are using a Braille display and you have the Australian language selected,

Re: Scanning books?
I do know what you mean, but actually, remembering the days when I couldn't read unless it was taped or put in braille or I could get somebody to read for me, I'm thrilled that now I can pretty much read anything i want as long as I'm willing to take the time to scan it, barring maybe things with a lot of graphics. Plus once scanned, I'm not limited to my computer. There's putting it in audio on a little mp3 player or Stream or leaving it in text and putting it on Stream or phone. Yes, I'd love to be able to just carry around a book, or a stack of books and read them, to go to the library and walk around and pull books off the shelves and read, to buy and read immediately. But if I look back as little as ten to fifteen years, I realize how much is open to me now that wasn't before. A co-worker has the Esys 12 cell display which is made by EuroBraille. There is an issue with using contracted braille with its notepad function. It seems to only use uncontracted. I don't know if that is true with the larger displays. Personally, with those odd shaped input buttons, I would not want to write very long on one of them. RE: Focus 14 comments
Karl, that is a good point about the surface since it is so light weight, it is easy to push it around with those front buttons. American Printing House sells some non-skid pad material that can be attached on the bottom of anything with a smooth surface. I think Executive products will probably make a case for it at some point. The case it comes with isn't too bad, but you certainly wouldn't want to walk in the rain with it since the sides are wide open.
