Also, in the Sounds section, turn off the option of Sounds with Buttons On. Turn it to Off and see if that works better too. They are optimized for and compatible with the iPhone. I am using mine with the iPhone 5S. I am not receiving sounds through both of my ears. That did occur for about two minutes, but didn't hold. I have been in contact with my audiologist and Starkey Tech Support. I have tried their suggestions which include disconnecting and re-pairing both aids, powering off the phone and opening the battery door on both aids to re-initialize them which did occur and probably other things without success. Also, I notice that there is a key conflict between turning on and off of Voiceover and getting to the Hearing Aid options, triple click home for both. Although I tried to re-assign the behavior of triple click home from VoiceOver to something else, I couldn't easily get to the hearing aid options anyway. Has anybody had experience with this model? If so, suggestion on resolving this would be appreciated. Also, since I am in the evaluation phase and have 45 days to decide whether I wish to keep this model, I'm wondering if there are other aids that are compatible with the iPhone that I might wish to consider? It is not particularly accessible but with lots of work it might be usable, but iTunes takes a bit of work and is quite usable for me and it is free. This app allows you, among other things, to +backup and view SMS Messages on your desktop OS of choice. The following is the latest message users of Disk Aide received from the developers. Mark DiskAid 6.7 with App Management iOS 8 Support DiskAid 6.7: App Backups! Safely rescue space on your iOS device with the new DiskAid 6.7 This week's release of DiskAid 6.7 adds one of the most requested features: the ability to backup individual iOS apps and their custom data and settings to your Mac or PC! Why is this kind of app management so cool? Because it means you can finally delete apps you don't use frequently without that dreaded decision of whether to lose your associated files and saved state. For gamers, this is especially welcoming since it means valuable gigabytes can be reclaimed without sacrificing the hours that have been invested earning achievements and progressing through a game. But really it's great for anyone who has ever thought they might need an app again that they no longer use. With DiskAid 6.7, you can save the app and its associated data as a single .ipa file, and restore it to your device as it was before just as easily. DiskAid 6.7 also adds a powerful new device cloning feature that allows you to make an exact copy of one iOS device to another-no need for clumsy iTunes backups and restores! iOS 8 OS X 10.10 Last Monday at WWDC Apple previewed iOS 8 and we immediately went to work testing its compatibility with DiskAid 6.7. After only 5 days we are pretty happy to release DiskAid 6.7.1 already supporting iOS 8! We have also been testing DiskAid 6.7 on the beta version of OS X 10.10 Yosemite, also due out in October, and so far haven't yet encountered any problems. AltConf 2014 Apple's WWDC DiskAid is super proud to be the Gold Sponsor of AltConf 2014, the free alternative to Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) that took place this week in San Francisco. Re: looktel money reader
What I do, and this is if I have more than one note to find out the value of, is place the phone with the camera facing up. In other words, I place the phone face down on the table surface and then I glide the note from left to right about 6 inches above the bill. Another way you can do this is by laying multiple notes across the table and running your phone across them and the voice will speak each as it finds them. Of course if it's just one note I need to know, I just hold one in each hand, the note and the phone and put them apart about 6 inches. Just remember to take note the location of the camera on the phone. -- Raul A. Gallegos Dear North Korea, eat a Snickers. Re: External battery pack recommendations saught
Hi, I recommend the battery packs from Anker. You can find them on Amazon. I just purchased a 10,000 mah battery pack which is shaped like a flat rectangle. So this means the phone can easily fit on it. Your iPhone has an average battery capacity of 1500 mah, so a battery pack of 10,000 will charge it at least 4 complete times over. The anker battery pack is the e3 model. If you need I can provide a link. Anker also makes many other types ranging from 3000 mah to 15,000 or even 20,000 mah, but those will be bigger. I don't recommend battery cases because they make the phone too bulky, and unless you are ok with that, it's not a big deal I suppose. However I like my case and I don't want a battery pack which will only charge my phone. So the external battery packs are a great buy. They come with 1 or 2 standard usb ports. This means I can charge not only my iPHone, but my Braille display, or my bluetooth earbuds, or whatever else charges via usb. Hope that helps. -- Raul A. Re: Hearing Aids and the iPhone
Hi Terri, I have a tiny audio shoe attached to each aid. This gives the aid a standard Euro connector plug at the base of the aid. I then have a cable with two of these connectors at one end, one for each aid. At the other, I have a 3.5 mm plug, suitable for plugging into a headphone socket. I use this to connect to my iPhone, the mixer in my studio, talking ATMs and all kinds of things. This gives me great stereo sound, and because it's not Bluetooth, there's no latency involved at all. I always make sure my audiologist turns off all compression and limiting on the program where the cable works, so when I'm in my studio I can really tell what's going on. Works great. Depending on how you want the titles sorted, douvle-tap on eigher one of these. Good luck! Re: BARD Mobile Get Books
It's always been there. It says recent audio books. You would have to go to the bard web page and double tap brose bard button to actually get to the NNLS library. There you can find the most recently added titles. I believe the 50 titles are always there and the links actually then take you to the bard site to download the title. HTH Regards, Alan I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet. Please click on: HTTP://WWW.home.earthlink.net/~alanandsuzanne/ There, you'll find free files of my arrangements and performances played on the Yamaha Tyros 1 keyboard. RE: For Those Who Want A Little More Control Over Their iPhone Including Backing-Up and Viewing SMS Messages
Sounds to me like you have to spend $30 and a lot of time whereas iTunes is free and while also requiring a bit of learning and practice, it’s super accessible with all modern screenreaders. I find it astonishing what length people are going to in order to avoid iTunes and in the end they are doing something that’s even more complicated and even costs money. But for those who would rather avoid iTunes, this looks promising if you are willing to buy it and spend a lot of time figuring out how to use it, at least on Windows. Gera, that only seems to apply to books already in my bookshelf. I am speaking of: Choose Get Books from the bottom tab Coming down from top left, choose Audio Titles The list that comes up may be new titles, I have not compared them by seeing Recently Added Titles going by Browse BARD, but they definitely do not appear in the same order as the recently added titles in that option The same is true if you choose Audio Magazines; they are new issues, but not in the same order. So, I am guessing this is just another option for reviewing new material. I just wonder why the difference and how to use it. I appreciate the reply. RE: External battery pack recommendations saught
Hi Jonathan, In my opinion it's like 6 of this or a half dozen of that when it comes to Anker and LimeFuel battery packs. They both get extremely good ratings and reviews and one just has to decide which battery fits one's needs. I still have the MyCharge Peak 6,000 with the attached 30-Pin connector from when I had my 4S and until it quits working I am not buying a new one, but if I were I would probably buy that 24,000 MAH unit from LimeFuel because more is always better in my view. I might actually buy also one of the really small ones for a bit of an emergency boost since I don't always have my backpack with me which contains the larger battery and cable. I think Anker is a german company so I guess that f course does make them extremely good *smile* Also, here is anoter Lifehacker article about the 5 best battery packs according to a survey they did, Anker is at the top and also mentioned is Energizer and, interestingly enough, battery packs from Monoprice.com: http://lifehacker.com/five-best-external-battery-packs-509802431 Regards, Sieghard From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Jonathan Mosen Sent: Sunday, June 08, 2014 8:11 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: External battery pack recommendations saught Hi Raul, have you taken a look at the Limeade batteries, and if so, what do you think the Anker packs have going over the Limeade? -- Raul A. That's ok I'm thinking of getting rid of it anyway without paying a penny. You right I don't really need a VPN on my iPhone. Nothing wrong with being curious though is there smile. Re: iCloud backup question
If you really don't want app data backed up, than go ahead and turn it off. That means that, were you to restore an iCloud backup, you wouldn't get any of your apps - books and files in Voice Dream, locally stored documents in a word processor, and so on. Some apps now store your information and sync via iCloud anyway, but any that don't will not be restored. That said, it's odd that you only have a toggle. As I said, I have a button, which lets me select which apps I don't want backed up. Turning off the big ones, like Bard Mobile, saves a lot of space in my backup. AltConf has being held at the Children's Creativity Museum right across the street from WWDC and included a ton of interesting sessions and panels. You can watch all replays on AltConf's Youtube Channel. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. iTunes Syncing Advice Sought
A few months ago when convincing a friend to use iTunes to backup and upgrade her iPhone 5 to iOS 7, she got burned when her phone had to be totally wiped and re-activated before the upgrade would complete. Also, since all the apps she had were obtained using her phone which had never been synced to her computer using iTunes, she lost all her apps and related data. I've since learned that backing up your phone to your computer with iTunes only backs up the apps which have been synced to the computer with iTunes. I am now attempting to get totally familiar with iTunes and syncing so that I have no further surprises in the future. The first question I need help with is how to proceed when the phone being synced has much on it that the computer does not and the computer also has items on it that the phone does not. Specifically, the phone has all the apps and related data and the computer's iTunes has several custom ringtones not on the phone. How does one perform a sync without losing one of the differing data sources? I'm assuming the sync will prompt you to pick which device controls the sync the first time it's done, i.e., which device's data survives and controls the sync. What I want is the ability to keep all the data from both devices the first time the sync is completed. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this? Thanks in advance for any assistance. I like the larger battery packs too but I also want the flip down AC wall prongs so I can recharge the battery pack from the wall. Does yours have that as well? -- Raul A. Hi Alan, There’s a feature under the device menu to transfer purchases from the device to iTunes, so this will take care of the apps thing. In terms of the Ringtones, this should come over when purchases are transferred. In terms of the data, you can back it up to the iCloud, at which point, you an retrieve it using the cloud back up service. If I’m incorrect, someone can please correct me. Re: Dice World Question
If you have someone who constantly starts games with you and then just abandons the game, you can, after you get tired of this behavior, block that person, or if a person continually starts a game with you after you have continually rejected them, you can again block that user. So if you do not care to play a particular game, such as Pig, and a player just keeps trying to invite you, you can decide you no longer wants to receive game invitations from that person, so you block them. -Original Message- From: Mary Anne Lynskey Sent: Sunday, June 08, 2014 5:30 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Dice World Question Hi everybody. Hi Lynda, the part number for the Phonak version of the cable is on my second blog post. Sorry I don't have it to hand right now. But actually, there are cheaper cables out there. If you do a Google search on hearing aid euro stereo cable, you should find them. I think even Amazon has them. RE: Moving ringtones to iPhone?
Hi DJ, Only way to delete/remove ringtones from the phone is by setting iTunes to Sync Selected Tones and then to check those you want and uncheck those you don't want. I, for example, have some ringtones which use Christmas songs so whenever Christmas is over I just uncheck them, sync my phone and they are gone. If I want them back I go back to the Tones section of my device, put a checkmark beside them and once again sync. I haven't done it myself and I hope you don't block me when you figure it out. You are a good opponent. I thought that was the reason for it but how do you do it? I can't find anything in the help file that tells me how, and I don't see a check box or anything to enable for a specific player. I am sure I am missing something very simple, but many thanks. Re: Returning to your place in a braille book from Bard
I didn't see any text in the body of your message, but here's how to return to your place in a Braille file. open a Braille book in bard, then press dots 1-2-3-5 (R) on your Braille display. The braille shortcuts can be found in the online help within the BARD app. (Bookshelf, help) htH, teresa The golden age of science fiction is twelve.--Pete graham On Jun 8, 2014, at 6:21 PM, Brian Albriton autoharp...@gmail.com wrote: -- Brian -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Jonathan's Cable Solution
Hi This is a very interesting topic. I am now wondering, I have widex hearing aids, (not too sure of which model now) and I am wondering if all hearing aids can take the little shoe as to connect the euro cable to it? I take it then that if the iPhone needs to be answered, you handle it in the normal way, as if you don't have anything connected to it then? Any ideas will be welcome. Sorry I don't have it to hand right now. But actually, there are cheaper cables out there. If you do a Google search on hearing aid euro stereo cable, you should find them. I think even Amazon has them.
