IPAD 4 16gb

2016-02-11 Thread Hicks Steven (ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITALS NHS TRUST)
Hi all,

Just looking at an IPAD 4 16gb as a new purchase, does anyone have one that can
comment on what they are like please?
Would imagine that they are up to the normal Apple standard and work as any
other device with voiceover but just wondering if anyone has found any
particular querks before I order one up.

TuneIn Radio is my favorite radio app. It is completely accessible with
VoiceOver.
I think it is worth the $1.99 to remove the ads, but it does have a free option.
If you set up a free TuneIn account, I believe even with the free version, then
your favorite stations are saved so if you need to install it on a new device,
you won't have to select your favorites again.

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It’s in Voiceover settings just after where you turn on or off Voiceover at the
very top. A 4-finger double tap on any home screen also starts Help, but if you
have problems with a single 4-finger tap this may not work for you until you
practice. The help area is a good place to do so because if you, for example,
don’t do it correctly and let’s say Voiceover only registers a 3-finger tap it
will tell you so and it’s easier that way to try and fix it.

Is there a gesture to get quickly to the top or bottom of a long list?
Specifically, I’m hoping for a faster way to skip down a long list of podcast
episodes, email, or options in settings, and probably other things escaping my
thoughts.

Also, I was listening to a podcast on using a Bluetooth keyboard with
VoiceOver. A keyboard way to do a “find” on the screen was mentioned. Is
there a way to trigger that Find dialog option with a gesture?

RE: Cloud storage and iPhone storage

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
iTunes Match doesn't actually store your music in your iCloud storage, it
"matches" the songs you have with music in the iTunes Store and gives you
access to it, but essentially you are using Apple's version of the songs and
not your own. Only songs it can't match are uploaded and I am not even sure if
they count against your iCloud Storage limit, I think they don't.

Subject: Cloud storage and iPhone storage

I'm trying to help a friend who has an iPhone 6 16GB: she has a huge Photos
library on her Mac and 99GB of music in iTunes. She has today increased her
iCloud storage plan and on her Mac has turned on iCloud Photo Library and
iTunes Match. But when I checked Apple support discussions online, it seems
that, though Apple stores and streams the photos and music from their iCloud,
the iCloud Photo Library hogs a big chunk of an iPhones internal storage (about
10% of the size of the original Mac library) whereas iTunes Match scarcely
occupies any of the iPhone's internal space. Is this correct? If so, why do the
two storage services have each such a different impact on an iPhones internal
storage?
Thanks

Re: Cloud storage and iPhone storage

2016-02-11 Thread Harry Bell
Thanks, Sieghard, that bit makes sense to me: iTunes Match music is simply
streamed from Apple's servers, so it doesn't hog any space on the iPhone
itself. So I'm still puzzled about why iCloud Photo Library can't do the same
instead of hogging chunks of storage on the phone?

Hi,
This is not true. When you first turn on an iDevice for the first time, wait a
minute or so to let it boot, then, do a triple click home, and VoiceOver will
come up, right on the Setup screen. Or, you can turn on VoiceOver within iTunes
when you plug in the device.
I hope this helps,

Re: Tune In Radio

2016-02-11 Thread Richard Turner
Once you have the app, along the bottom are tabs, one is the search tab.
Search for a station.
When you find it, locate the name of the station and double tap. You may find
there is another layer where you find the word Stations and then the name of
that station again, double tap and it should start playing. Then, on that
screen, there is a follow button.
Double tap that. You will be asked if you want to echo that station, which I
think has to do with social media which I don't use so I always say no.
A two finger double tap will start and stop playing.
When you are done listening, stop the playing, then there is an exit the now
playing screen button in the upper left.
After you have added all the stations you want for now, double tap the profile
button in the lower left and you will have a screen with the station you have
followed, and some things that come with it.
HTH,
Richard

Google Maps+Blindsquare or Seeing Eye GPS?

2016-02-11 Thread englishrider91
Sendero Lookaround GPS hasn't been working for me lately, and I've heard good
things about Blindsquare. I use Google Maps, but sometimes find it difficult to
follow its walking directions. Knowing when I've gotten to a specific cross
street is kind of important, and since Sendero Lookaround isn't cutting it
anymore, I need something that'll do the job. I'm just not sure which solution
to go with here. I've tried SE GPS, and liked it, but maybe GM+BS would suit me
better. What do you all think?

Thanks,
Ari

Re: ANYONE OUT THERE USE MBRAILLE, CALENDAR FEATURE, with Fantastical, please?

2016-02-11 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone

Hi Chris,

Further to the last messages, I did get it to work with the 0 included,
thanks, but then that was a random time. Mostly it's not working for me.

In trying to troubleshoot the problem, I've tried to be careful and
check what I've written. (I'm usually pretty accurate with the app, but
can make mistakes, I know, so have allowed for those.

Nevertheless, I am not getting the calendar to work very often at all.

I've turned off some of my other calendars, leaving only the Facebook
and birthday ones and have also ensured that the calendar is already
loaded before I start to use mBraille.

I did get it to work once with more than one word in the subject line
and without using quotes, but that must be a sheer fluke, because I
haven't done it since; but, as I say, it's not working reliably for me,
nor have I ever got it to do so.

I did ask Harri about it ages ago but didn't get any further than I have
now.

Do you or does anyone else have suggestions from here as I really do
want to use it?

If nobody has suggestions, of course, I'll stop bombarding the list with
more messages and do thank you, Chris, for your help so far.

I hope however that someone can come up with a solution.

Hello,

Now I typed in what you said, with the exception of putting 02 instead of just
2, and it did work for me, it just put the appointment on November 2, and not
February 11.

So try typing:

.cal "Allison, Guide Dogs" "11-02-2016 11:00"

I hope this helps!

Hi Chris,

I've tried some more and still can't get this to work.

I've used uncontracted Braille (even throughout) and am in the UK, so date

My last entry tried was
.cal "Alison, Guide Dogs" "11-2-2016 11:00"
This, hopefully, was to schedule Alison from Guide Dogs to come at 11:00 on
11th February 2016.

I've also tried the 02 approach for the month.

I'm trying an "Enter" when completed, but have tried three-finger swipe left,
all without success.

Any ideas?

I've never got this to work here in the UK and so am very keen to learn if
anyone else in the UK has got the calendar to work reliably and of course to
hear from you on what you think I may be doing incorrectly.

Thanks to you and anyone else who chimes in with any further help.

I just tried using the dot cal feature in MBraille and it worked for me just

I used the examples in the help section as a guide.

First, it works better when you use grade 1 braille to enter the dot cal
command.
I did notice that after typing the start date, I had to do a letter sign dots 4
6 before typing the quotation mark, or the quotation mark would automatically
disappear.

I scheduled a meeting for tomorrow at 1 PM with an alert of 30 minutes, and a
location of Office. I typed this into MBraille:
.cal Meeting "2016-02-09 13:00" alert 30 min location: Office

If you tell me what you are trying to enter, then I will be happy to help you
figure out what you need to write to add the event to your calendar.

Hope this helps,

Chris

RE: Question about iPhone 5s

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, iPhone 5S should be free with 2-year contract. Of course this may change
when the new 4 inch phone comes out. It isn't impossible that it may become the
new free phone on contract and the 5S will no longer be offered once all the
inventory runs out. But I agree, it's definitely better to wait right now since
it is expected the announcement will come on March 14 which is only just over 4
weeks away.

Hi again Simon,

Just because your plan is finished doesn't mean you have to get a new plan.
You can continue with that plan and see what happens when the iPhone S E does.
At least, they think that's what its going to be called and, like Ioana said,
you may be able to get the 5S for nothing at all on a 2-year plan.

As a matter of fact, you'd better check again with Bell because I was told that
the iPhone 5S is the free one this year on a 2-year plan.

Hi Simon,

I agree with everything Ron said. However if you are not in a hurry and can
wait a few months around April or so there should be a new phone the same size
as the 5 s with even better specks. You might just be able to get it for the
same price or, maybe get the 5 s cheeper then.

RE: communication between androids and IPhones

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
In fact Skype I think is better than Facetime and it’s definitely not worse. On
top of that it uses less data as it has better compression.

On another note, if you want to use voice messages using the voice message
feature to send voice recordings between iOS devices with the messages app is
horrible in quality compared to Whats App. I still can’t believe Apple hasn’t
fixed that, these messages sound like a recording on an old answering machine
with a cassette tate.

Re: Google Maps+Blindsquare or Seeing Eye GPS?

2016-02-11 Thread Brice Smith
The Seeing Eye app gives detailed information about intersections,
includes turn-by-turn directions and can also optionally pull POIs
from Google Places instead of just four Square. Otherwise, Google (or
Apple) maps plus BlindSquare is a fantastic combination.

You won’t get detailed intersection information with BlindSquare. But
you get an arguably smoother UI; the ability to plan a route with the
navigation application of your choice (and thus live traffic
rerouting, which Seeing Eye's turn-by-turn navigation does not
support), less battery drain than the Seeing Eye App, the ability to
simulate your destination and explore the new area, plus plenty of
other features.

Brilliant, thanks so much, I will give it a try.
Looking forward to receiving my new IPAD now.

HTH,
Richard

TuneIn Radio is my favorite radio app. It is completely accessible with
VoiceOver.
I think it is worth the $1.99 to remove the ads, but it does have a free option.
If you set up a free TuneIn account, I believe even with the free version, then
your favorite stations are saved so if you need to install it on a new device,
you won't have to select your favorites again.

The larger feel better now they're thinner and lighter when working in one hand.

They're out now, so not a big issue.

Someone just offered one of those Mini 4s on the trading lists recently, though

Just looking at an IPAD 4 16gb as a new purchase, does anyone have one that can
comment on what they are like please?
Would imagine that they are up to the normal Apple standard and work as any
other device with voiceover but just wondering if anyone
has found any particular querks before I order one up.

Re: IPAD Adn starting Voice Over

2016-02-11 Thread Michelle Bernstein
I think that the default setting for Voiceover is that it is not turned on
and that you need to go into Settings to activate Voiceover as a Triple
Click Home option.
Maybe trying pressing the Home Button to activate Siri and ask, "Turn
Voiceover On". Once Voiceover is on, you can set up the Voiceover Option
as a triple click home feature.

Re: IPAD Adn starting Voice Over

2016-02-11 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hi,
This is not true. When you first turn on an iDevice for the first time, wait a
minute or so to let it boot, then, do a triple click home, and VoiceOver will
come up, right on the Setup screen. Or, you can turn on VoiceOver within iTunes
when you plug in the device.
I hope this helps,
Jeffrey

Re: Lost my contacts, need helpp restoreing from the cloud

2016-02-11 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello Sly,

If you normally sync contacts with iCloud, go into Settings and choose iCloud.
Turn Contacts on if it's off. All your contacts will be copied from iCloud to
your phone. If Contacts is already turned on, it's possible your contacts are
no longer in iCloud. To find out, go to www.icloud.com. Log in, and choose
Contacts. There are accessibility issues with this website, but on my Mac, I
can at least tell whether contacts are there, so if you use Windows, I hope
you'll be able to find out as well.

Good luck,
Anna

Google play music

2016-02-11 Thread Wendy Alling
Hi all, anyone using Google play music with iOS? If so, how do you add songs
from your own music to the library? How do you get to the subscription options?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

RE: Tips for transferring music to iPhone with folder-like structure?

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you use iTunes and want to use the music app then preserving folder
structure is not possible. iTunes and the music app strictly use the tags for
organizing your music. If a "various artists" album is tagged correctly it will
show up under "Compilations" in the artists view so you can still play the
entire album. The trick is to use both the "artist" tag and the "Album Artist"
tag. Of course you would have your song title and album title, but make sure
that the "artist" field has the actual name of the artist. For example, let's
say you have the songs San Francisco and Maybe Baby onyour oldies album, make
sure you put Scott McKenzie and Buddy Holly in the artist fields, respectively.
However, when you get to the album artist field, here you want to simply put
"Various Artists" in for all songs on the album.
Also, in iTunes you have a checkbox you have to check which says "Album is a
compilation of songs by various artists". If you do this for all the songs on
each compilation album and make sure the album title is exactly the same then
it will be grouped correctly.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Title: San Francisco
Artist: Scott McKenzie
Album: Best Oldies"
Album Artist: Various Artists

  HI guys
Tips so that the music on my iPhone gets transferred as much as possible
similar to how on an mP3 Player in which each folder is an album? How I've
proceeded so far is before transferring the music to the phone, via the MP3Tag
program on my Windows7 Laptop, where it says album, I rename the list of songs,
to the name of the folder, in this case Houston's music; also where it says
artist, I put various, but why even though I made these changes, does my phone
still show names like Houston music Sheryl crow, Houston music Billy joel etc?
I'd liked to have Houston music Various as one album, but can this be done, did
I maybe not select all the files, even though I'm sure I did before relabling
them with MP3 Tag? Thanks for info.

Re: Question about iPhone 5s

2016-02-11 Thread Alan Paganelli
I think too that there are going to be far more 16 GB phones on the market then
64 gigs. The cheapest isn't always the best choice. For me, storage is more
important because, I want to keep my music collection stored on my phone not in
the cloud. Why? If you haven't got a connection, you haven't got any music!
And at going on 68 years old, I'm stuck in my ways! LOL!

RE: Cloud storage and iPhone storage

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can download your music library and I assume Apple assumes you want
off-line access to your photos which is why they are downloaded. You could
always use Dropbox or OneDrive, you can set up both of hese services to
automatically upload your camera roll and here all the photos are strictly kept
in the cloud for iOS devices unless you specifically mark them to be
downloaded. If you use a PC (and I assume also a Mac) then the pictures will be
downloaded to a folder called "Camera Roll".
In some ways Dropbox and maybe also OneDrive do this better than Apple does, I
think Apple has always had a bit of a fight with cloud storage although it is
better now than it used to be.

Hi,
I'm going to jump in here on the topic of sending songs to people. If any of
you are familiar with the workflow app, you can create a workflow to get the
currently playing song and for example send it somebody via email. There are
multiple things you can do with the currently playing song, but since on the

A while ago I heard that Jonathan Mosen reviewed an alarm clock that
vibrated and was controlled only by iOS.

Wondering if anyone knew the model number of this unit?

Re: Google Maps+Blindsquare or Seeing Eye GPS?

2016-02-11 Thread Terje Strømberg
and it depends of where you are living or wisiting. Apple Maps + Blind Square
sendt me contrary direction. About 500 meters. Both apps was absolutely sure i
was at destination. It may be best to test both Seeing Eye and Blind Square. I
am havning issues with the personal POI’s at some places in Blind Square
lately. Its strange. I suspect something, but kno nothing.
Take care

11. feb. 2016 kl. 20:04 skrev Brice Smith :

TuneIn Radio is my favorite radio app. It is completely accessible with
VoiceOver.

I think it is worth the $1.99 to remove the ads, but it does have a free
option.

If you set up a free TuneIn account, I believe even with the free version,
then your favorite stations are saved so if you need to install it on a new

ICloud and phone storage

2016-02-11 Thread Harry Bell
If so, why do the
two storage services have each such a different impact on an iPhones internal
storage?
Thanks
Harry

RE: Which Skyp app?

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Kim,

I never used it, but if you read the app description it's explained more or
less well. I think with Skype WiFi you can connect to hotspots which you
normally have to pay for and with this app you pay not to the hotspot provider
but to Skype just for the minutes you used. If you are after using Skype for
calling, video calling and texting on your own home WiFi or with your data you
can ignore this app, just get the main Skype app and you are good to go. Like I
said, I never tried it, but here is the description:

Description

With Skype WiFi you can get online at over 2 million public WiFi hotspots
worldwide at the touch of a button.

Here’s how:
1. Simply connect to any supported public WiFi hotspot.
2. Open the Skype WiFi app and tap the Connect button…
3. Ta-da! You’re now connected to the internet (wasn’t that easy?).

You’re now free to browse the web, check your email or enjoy free calls and
messages to all your friends and family with the Skype app – remember, it’s a
different app to the Skype WiFi one. ;)

Features:
• Pay only for the minutes you use and avoid those expensive all-day internet
passes.
• No matter what hotspot you’re connected to, pay using your Skype Credit so
you never have to fill out another complicated sign up form.
• And so there’s no unexpected surprises, Skype WiFi will automatically
disconnect after 30 minutes in case you forget to disconnect.

RE: ITunes

2016-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Steven,

It would be much easier if you use the app store app on your iOS device to look
for it.

Once you open the app, double tap on the Search tap which is the second tab
from the right across the bottom (Updates is on the very right).

After the search tab is selected, find the search edit field at the top, double
tap on it to put the cursor there and type “TuneIn Radio”, then double tap the
“Search” button at the very bottom right of the keyboard

Your search results will now be displayed, when I just did this the free
version of TuneIn Radio was at the very top of the results, TuneIn Radio Pro
was the next one. Swipe to the “Get” button and double tap it.

You will most likely be asked to enter your Apple Id password, after that the
app will begin to download.

It is also possible that after you enter your password and tap OK that a
message may pop asking you if you want to set it up so you don’t have to enter
your password any more for free apps, I did this since it is much quicker to
get an app that way.

Regards,

Sieghard

I have a new keyboard, it is a Logitech.

2016-02-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I went to target today, and bought a new Bluetooth keyboard, because I
could not seem to get my smaller keyboard that I bought from Walmart
several months ago, two pair with my I phone 5S. It is a large attack. I do
not know the model number. It is a pretty big keyboard. It takes Triple-A
batteries. There is a switch on the bottom of it which makes me think that
is how you turn it on and off. Also, there is a dial like thing on the left
side of it and it says 1 to 3.Could anyone tell me how to pair this
keyboard with my phone? I tried, but on the phone says is in progress, or
something close to that. But it never find anything. That is the same thing
that was happening with my smaller keyboard.

How do I get this to work? I don't have a lot of sighted people who
understand things like this.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated. I would do use the
keyboard, because were dictation comes out wrong a lot of the times. This
keyboard seems to be much better than the one I had. Will I still have it,
I am hoping I can use it with my AppleTV. But I don't even know how that
works.

Thank you so much!

Terri

I think too that there are going to be far more 16 GB phones on the market then
64 gigs. The cheapest isn't always the best choice. For me, storage is more
important because, I want to keep my music collection stored on my phone not in
the cloud. Why? If you haven't got a connection, you haven't got any music!
And at going on 68 years old, I'm stuck in my ways! LOL!

You don't have to use the finger print feature if you don't want to.
I know nothing of your phone companies, so can't comment on that.
If you plan to use a lot of music or audio, I would go with more than the basic
16GB of memory.
