RE: How do I hare a photo to an email address

2017-11-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Two ways:

1. Go to the Photos app, open your photo, tab on Share and select Mail

2. Open your mail app, start an email, address it and enter a subject. When you
are in the message body turn the rotor to Edit and select "Insert Photo or
Video", this will open your Photos and let you select one. If your photo is
saved elsewhere like in Dropbox or OneDrive you can follow the same steps, but
instead of "Insert Photo or Video" you double tap on "Attach file", then you
can access your Dropbox or OneDrive and find a picture or other file to attach.

Subject: How do I hare a photo to an email address

Hello everyone,

How do I share a photo from my iPhone, to an email adress?

I see how to share it.

But every time I share it, and send the email, it doesn't come through as an
attachment.

Is there a way to do this?

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Does AIRA still exist?

2017-11-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, it exists, yes, it does work with the iPhone although strictly speaking I
don't even think you need a smartphone since when you sign up you get the
Google Glasses and an AT MyFi device, it generates a small WiFi network and
all the data you need for the service comes from this not from your phone's
data plan.

A quick Google search for "Aira" brought it up as the first search result, here
is a direct link to the pricing page:

Is it something that can be used with the iPhone?

If so, how much does it cost, and where would I find the supported glasses?

Any help would be much appreciated.

RE: mail badge app icon

2017-11-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is incorrect, I don't have notifications for Mail on neither for showing
Mail on the lock screen nor for showing it in Notification Centre.
I had the Mail icon display 0 unread messages at one point, I think it was
during the last iOS 11.1 Public Beta before the final one which now became rthe
official release. However, this got fixed in this public release version.
If you are sure the badge icon is enabled and it definitely displays 0 unread
messages when in fact there are unread messages and if you have already
restarted your phone without success I would probably try a Reset Network
Settings to see if this helps.

Hi,
I found out that if you have turned off notifications for Mail, you've also
turned off the message count. Apple said that this is the expected behaviour.

I would want the sim free one for the same
 reasons listed below.
Now, grin, I likely wouldn't go to
 another country or leave AT,
but I still want the freedom to do so,
 just in case.

I knew the Verizon models came
unlocked, but I didn't want to run
 into any possible problems activating
 since the phone would have
 initially come from Verizon.  Does
anyone know if the iPhones for
specific carriers have any markings or
 emblems or the like
indicating they are from that carrier?
 I do realize the phone
would have a carrier sim which one
 could remove.

Also, glad you got the Verizon model
and it worked, even if you
are with T-Mobile.  For, if I'm
 understanding things correctly,
if one purchases the iPhone for
 carriers such as AT and
T-Mobile, even if you pay full price or
 get on the upgrade
program so the phone is unlocked, it
 still can't be used on
carriers such as Verizon and Sprint.

Thanks Anna,
I will send those directions to them and see if it works.
That sounds excellent.

Right now, there is a friend who is willing to manually put them in the native

Re: anyone got an IPhone 10?

2017-11-03 Thread Kliphton Miller
well, I don’t know why others prefer the sim free model, but I prefer it so if
I so choose I can travel to other countrys and not pay higher roaming chargers.
Also, if I choose to jump back and forth between carriers because one might
have a better deal is another reason. I googled unlocked iPHone x today, and
it told me that verizon phones come unlocked. Also said that if you order
directly from apple, you choose a carrier, but it’s unlocked when you receive
it, only the simm card that is shipped with it locks it to that carrier. I
know this to be true about verizon phones. I am with t-mobiel, and they didn’t
get any in store today. So my friend let me purchase one on his verizon
account, I popped my t-mobile sim card in, and it works just fine. So if there
were any doubt, now you know. Also face ID is easy to setup, I ran into no
issues at all, took less than 30 seconds.

How do I hare a photo to an email address

2017-11-03 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

How do I share a photo from my iPhone, to an email adress?

I see how to share it.

But every time I share it, and send the email, it doesn't come through
as an attachment.

Is there a way to do this?

Thank you,

Terri

Mark,

Many thanks for posting this. It seems obvious that Apple didn't do a very good
job of understanding its user base when deciding to yank apps out of iTunes
12.7. I find the heading used on the web page for this download to be pretty

Apple has quietly released iTunes 12.6.3, which reintroduces the ability to
download App Store apps and ringtones from within the iTunes desktop software.

Apple is making this version of iTunes available because "certain business
partners might still need to use iTunes to install apps", but the download is
basically available to anyone looking to reinstate the functionality that was
removed in iTunes 12.7.

If you've already installed a newer version of iTunes, you can download this
version of iTunes on your Mac, PC 32-bit or PC 64-bit and run the installer.
After installation is complete, you can continue to deploy apps with iTunes.
You won't be prompted to download new versions of iTunes after you install this
version.
Installation packages for Mac and PC (32-bit and 64-bit) are available for
download on the support page. After the installation, most users will need to
rebuild their iTunes Library. To do this, hold down the Option key when the app
launches and in the dialog window that appears choose "Create Library...". Give
the new library a name that's different to your existing library, and then
migrate over your albums using the Add to Library...
option under the Files menu.

Apple released iTunes 12.7 in September and said the new version was designed
to focus solely on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks, which was
the reason behind the removal of the built-in App Store. Following the change,
apps and ringtones could only be downloaded on an iOS device.

This special "business edition" of iTunes includes compatibility with iOS 11,
iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. It's not clear how long Apple will offer
iTunes 12.6.3, and the company does not provide technical support for this
version, but for those who want the functionality it could be a useful
makeweight until Apple comes up with an alternative solution.

Mark,

Many thanks for posting this. It seems obvious that Apple didn't do a very good
job of understanding its user base when deciding to yank apps out of iTunes
12.7. I find the heading used on the web page for this download to be pretty
humorous: Deploy apps in a business environment with iTunes. I wonder how long
the Marketing wordsmiths spent on that one. It sure seems to divert attention
from the oversight.

Now I have to decide whether I should install it or not after starting to get
used to iTunes 12.7.

Hi Kimberly,
Yes, it is most definitely possible to move many selected files at once. Just
hit the edit button, select all the files you want to select by double tapping
on each one, then hit the move button. And go from there. This is of course,
assuming you want all of the folders to be moved to the same location.

Re: Cutting the Cable options

2017-11-03 Thread christopher hallsworth

in my experience, Apple TV with Netflix and other UK only apps were accessible.
However as they weren't worth the money for me personally, I have gone back to
Freeview free over the air digital television.

Cutting the Cable options

2017-11-03 Thread Denny Schwab
Hello all,

I have seen some discussion on different TV streaming options to let
someone stop their cable service and use those streaming services
instead. What are accessible options around doing this?

For instance, I read an Amazon review where a user used Swing TV,
Hulu, Amazon Prime, and CBS All Access to get pretty much all of the
shows they normally would view on cable. I have heard that Hulu was
accessible before, but has issues now. I also know that CBS All
Access has a lot of accessibility issues. What about Swing TV or
Amazon Prime Video? What other options have people found that work
well?

Thank you,

Denny

Hi all, I am asking for a friend, as I usually delete as I go, but she
has around 1200 messages in her in box, and is wanting to know if there
is a way to delete all? There doesn't seem to be, but I hope we are

select all, and delete the whole mess and they will go the the deleted

Re: checking for Apps in IOS 10

2017-11-03 Thread Michael McKay
Hi! Vicki:

If you are using the iPhone, then go into the settings app click on general,
then go to software update. And you can update that way. If you’re settings app
is on your main screen, just go in to it if you are swiping across the screen,
and your screen reader or voiceover is reading going down the screen and it
hits the Settings app sometimes it will tell you if there is an update other
times you may have to go in and find it. Again, just going to General, and your
settings app go to software update, and tap on it, and you will find the iOS
update their. Just tap on the update, and let it download and just follow the
instructions. I just downloaded the new iOS now and I had no problems.

Hope this helps.

Hi Douglas,

Make sure Key Flicks is on in Keyboard Settings. Then to use it, touch a letter
in the top row - q for 1, w for 2, etc. If you are using touch typing, don't
lift your finger, but immediately flick up or down until VoiceoVer speaks the
number associated with that key, and double-tap.

Best,
Anna

Re: Key flicks anyone?

2017-11-03 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Best,
Anna

Apple maps not speaking or giving haptic feedback since upgrading to IOS 11

2017-11-03 Thread 'Graham Roby' via VIPhone
Hi,

Since updating my iPhone7 to IOS11 when I tell Blindsquare to plot a route
using Apple maps, I no longer get turn by turn voice prompts.
The Maps app opens showing the planned route, I tap walking directions then
double tap on go. At that point I used to get Apple maps saying something
like starting walking directions to xxx. As I walked along, I also got
haptic feedback when approaching a turn through my watch. Now all that
happens is I hear blindsquare updating my location information and telling
me how far to my destination.

Has anyone else come across this issue and better still found a solution?

Many thanks for any help/advice offered.

Warm regards

Graham

Function keys and VO commands again

2017-11-03 Thread Richard Turner
OK, anyone who has an Apple brand Bluetooth keyboard able to actually access
the notification or control centers with the keyboard commands?

Apple Accessibility is not paying attention to my questions. Their last answer
was basically, it depends on how the keyboard is wired. But, I never got a
straight answer if the commands actually work with the Apple keyboards.
I know they don't work for me on either the AmazonBasics or the Logitech K480.

RE: Learning the Camera

2017-11-03 Thread Richard Turner
I'd like to also recommend the book, Get The Picture by Judi Dixon available
from the National Braille Press.
She is blind and while some of the information is out of date, the techniques
are not.
She worked with a (or several, I can't remember right now,) photographer to
learn how to get good pictures, both for object identification and just plain
photographs.

I think it is about $15.

Hi Scott,

I think the most effective way would be to ask a sighted person to try and
teach you. If you have somebody there who can see what you are pointing the
camera at and who also knows what you want to point it at then they can correct
you and in time you hopefully get a better feel for it.

RE: setting SIRI volume

2017-11-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, ask SIRI something which will make her speak for a longer period of time,
e.g. ask her to look something up on wikipedia or similar. Once S
IRI is speaking adjust the volume to where you want it with the volume buttons
and that’s it.

Is there a way to set SIRI's volume separate from the VO volume?

SIRI is quite a bit lower than VO volume and I would like them to at least

Does that make a difference? I notice that sometimes VO's volume changes all on

RE: gestures for iPhone X

2017-11-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Pablo,

The easy and basic reply to your question is that a camera takes better
pictures and smoother video if the lense or lenses have optic image
stabilization. The most basic and mechanical form of optic image stabilization
is a tripod and obviously if you want to take difficult pictures withlong
exposure times or with a large zoom level putting the camera on a tripod will
give you the best picture.
Keep in mind that sighted people love their smartphone cameras and given how
good the cameras in most smartphones are today, especially in the high-end
smartphones, many people don’t even own a separate digital camera any more. The
fact is that because of it’s high-end processor the iPhone or a phone like the
Pixel 2 outperform pretty much all point and shoot cameras. If you are really
serious about photography and own an expensive SLR camera with a few thousand
Dollars worth of lenses then of course you can still do more, but it’s amazing
how good these smartphone cameras nowadays are. If you really want to know all
about the iPhone X camera and its features I suggest you read up about it on
Apple.com, but as in all iPhones Apple really does things right when it comes
to picture-taking.
For a blind person a camera lense with optical image stabilization could
potentially give you a better OCR result with apps like KNFB Reader or
Microsoft Seeing AI because if the camera compensates for a shaky hand or a bit
of movement then obviously the picture the OCR software gets is clearer and
easier to recognize.

Below is part of a Lifewire article as well as the full link to the article.

Optical Image Stabilization
Optical image stabilization (OIS) is the most effective form of image
stabilization. Camcorders with optical image stabilization typically feature
tiny gyro-sensors inside the lens that quickly shift pieces of the lens glass
to the off-set motion before the image is converted to a digital form.
An image stabilization technology is considered optical if it features a moving
element inside the lens.
Some camcorder manufacturers let you turn optical image stabilization on and
off, or include several modes to compensate for different kinds of camera
movement (either vertical or horizontal).

Digital Image Stabilization
Unlike optical systems, digital image stabilization (also called electronic
image stabilization, or EIS) uses software technology to reduce the impact of
shaky hands on video.

Here is the link for the full
article,
you can find many more if you Google "what is optic image stabilization":

It’s the Face Id feature, the fact the iPhone X has an OLED screen which gives
you a 5.8 inch screen (slightly larger than that of a Plus model iPhone) but
yet the phone itself is just only barely larger than a regular 4.7 inch iPhone.
Yes, all new phones from 20167 have the A11 Bionic processor, but I think the
iPhone X has more RAM and because of the OLED screen you get at least as good
battery life as you get from a Plus model with a much larger battery.
Lastly, in the iPhone X both back camera lenses have optical image
stabilization, only one lense has that with the other phones and you have I
believe a better front camera on the iPhone X.
All new 2017 iPhones support wireless charging.

I am pretty terrible at aiming the camera on my iPhone, whether that is

explains how to aim the iPhone camera well without seeing it? I'm

Pablo,

You should definitely buy the iPhone X, it is the ultimate smartphone and blows
every single Android phone completely out of the water.

OK, I’m just jerking your chains, but there has been a lot of discussion about
the iPhone X since the September Apple keynote, the phone was available for
preorder last Friday and will be available in stores and start shipping this
Friday (November 3). Of course there is no way you would get one at this point
probably until the new year because Apple is not at all able at this point to
supply as many phones as are in demand despite the steep price

You know, this has always fascinated me.

When I post to this group using MS Outlook on a PC, I always see the message
come through on the list, as one would expect. In fact, if I then open my
email account in iOS or OS X, I see the posted message.

However, if I post to this group via Apple Mail in either iOS or OS X, I do
not see the message come through, even if I then open the account in Outlook

I truly do not understand why this is the case.

However, as mentioned in a subsequent reply to this thread, one can toggle
