I'm wondering if anyone else is getting the weather data services not
responding message where it tells you to do a two finger double tap to try
again? Mine has been doing this all day. I've killed the app several
times, but still the same thing.

How to customize your Calendar settings on iPhone and iPad | iMore

2018-03-06 Thread M. Taylor
How to customize your Calendar settings on iPhone and iPad

With Apple's built-in Calendar app, you have lots of customization options
to make it work the way you need it to.
By Lory Gil, 19 Jan 2018

The built-in Calendar app on iPhone and iPad is not only Apple's specially
designed event tracker, it's also a gateway to many other productivity apps
that sync with it to provide useful information for your daily life. Even if
you use a different calendar service, like Google or Microsoft, you can link
those services to your Calendar app to get the most out of your daily
planning. Apple's Calendar app has lots of dedicated customizations that you
can use to help make it work for you. Here's how to set them up the way you
want.
. How to set up calendar accounts
. How to change the default time zone for calendar alerts
. How to select an alternate calendar type
. How to turn week numbers on and off
. How to turn invitee decliners on and off
. How to manage calendar syncing
. How to set default alert times
. How to set the start of your week
. How to set a default calendar
. How to turn location suggestions on and off
. How to turn Events Found in Apps on and off

How to setup calendar accounts
Whether you're using iCloud, Gmail, Outlook, or a dedicated IMAP account,
you can set it up to sync with the built-in Calendar app on iPhone and iPad.
Note: If you've already set up your email account, you may have already
completed these steps.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Accounts & Passwords.
3. Tap Add Account.
4. Select an account service like iCloud, Google, or Outlook.
5. Sign in with your account login credentials.
6. Turn on the Calendars switch to sync that account's calendar.

How to change the default time zone for calendar alerts
By default, your iPhone and iPad will automatically change time zones as you
move about the country. However, you may want your calendar information to
stay in the time zone you live or work in. If you want to change the default
time zone, you can override it in your Calendar's settings.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Calendar.
3. Tap Time Zone Override.
4. Turn on the Time Zone Override switch.
5. Tap Time Zone.
6. Search for the city you want to change the time zone to.
7. Tap the city to change the default time zone for your Calendar app.

How to select an alternate calendar type
If you usually follow the Chinese, Hebrew, or Islamic calendar, you can make
that your default calendar type instead of the western one.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Calendar.
3. Tap Alternate Calendars.
4. Tap Chinese, Hebrew, or Islamic.

How to turn week numbers on and off
By default, the Calendar app numbers each week in the year. For some, this
is a useful way to quickly see how many weeks have gone buy, but for others,
it's unnecessary information. You can turn this feature off or on to your
liking.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Calendar.
3. Turn the Week Numbers switch off or on.

How to turn invitee decliners on and off
If you're big on inviting others to events, you may want to know everyone
that has confirmed and declined the invitation. You may, however, not have
any interest in who is not attending your event. You can turn this feature
off or on to your liking.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Calendar.
3. Turn the Show Invitee Declines switch off or on.

How to manage calendar syncing
In order to keep data usage and internal storage to a minimum, your iPhone
and iPad, by default, only sync back one month. If you're likely to be
looking for older event information from your various calendars, you can
change how far back your accounts are synced.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Calendar.
3. Tap Sync.
4. Tap the time frame you want to sync back to.

How to set default alert times
You can specify what time you want to receive an alert for an event on your
calendar. This does not override any events that you have manually selected
a notification time. It's for default event notifications for Birthdays,
timed events, and all-day events
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Calendar.
3. Tap Default Alert Times.
4. Select the alert you want to set a default time for.
5. Select the time you want to receive the alert.

How to set a reminder to leave on time
You can also enable the ability to receive an alert to remind you what time
you should leave in order to make it to your event based on typical travel
time for events where you have an address included.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap Calendar.
3. Tap Default Alert Times.
4. Turn the Time to Leave

Hi,
Yes, it is doing the same thing on my phone too. So, me thinks it is

I hope it is just a temporary glitch; I so love this app!

Mike,
Do a two finger double tap and hold, wait for the tri-tone, then you should
have an edit box where you can change the name.

That may mean that they are both using the same icon. Do you have any

I've run into issues like that with some weather apps, and when I rename
one, they both get renamed.
So, I put them in different folders.

Hi

Yes indeed, there is a problem. The supplier of the weather data, ibm, has
made a mistake with the app data account, as they had to change to a new ibm

them over to a new account. The developer is aware of the problem and hoping

Re: Is it possible to rename an app icon?

2018-03-06 Thread Christopher Chaltain
This is a good solution but you're not actually changing the name of the
icon on the screen. What you're doing is associating a label in
VoiceOver with the icon on the screen. The icon on the screen itself is
not changing. Like I said, a good solution though.

Mike,

Do a two finger double tap and hold, wait for the tri-tone, then you
should have an edit box where you can change the name.

That may mean that they are both using the same icon. Do you have
any sighted help?

I've run into issues like that with some weather apps, and when I
rename one, they both get renamed.

So, I put them in different folders.

But does it work, consistently, or always, with PayPal? I have not had any

Re: Managing storage in settings

2018-03-06 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello, Bill,

It depends on the app. With the music app, you can delete individual albums and
songs. Most apps give you the option to delete all the data, the whole app, or
both. Double-tap the app you're interested in and see what the options are.

Best,
Anna

The main difference for me is that Seeing AI works pretty flawlessly.
I've not had a lot of success with Office Lens.

I played around with this today and actually deleted an app Idid not see a

Can I manage individual items foom there, say a particular book in BARD, for
instance, deleting a Braille book I down loaded by mistake that I have an
audio version of?

On the other hand, when I reverted to my credit card for payment, there were no

Re: Scam- a fishing message claiming to be from Apple

2018-03-06 Thread Andy Baracco
You might also want to check your credit card statement because there are
scammers who will charge small purchases like a subscription to a music service
to your credit card. Because the amounts are small, we tend to overlook them or
think it is a purchase we made. This is a set up for larger charges later, or
additional accounts opened using your personal identification.

It is a bug, screen recording used to capture audio just fine, but at this
point it does not work any more since Voiceover switches to the earpiece. If
you turn it up all the way you can just barely hear it on the recording.
You could try to plug in an external speaker, haven’t tried this, but it may
work.

Anna,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. The funny thing is that when I follow your
instructions and turn the microphone on,Voiceover goes quiet and I have to lock
my iPhone 7 running iOS 11.2.6 to get it back. I seem to recall reading about
an issue with the screen recorder and maybe I've just stepped into it. I really
want to be able to use this feature to record video with the Voiceover audio
but I'm either still leaving off a step or something is not working right.

Thanks again.

Hi alan,

It sounds like the mic was off during the recording. To turn it on, press hard
on the Screen Recording button if you have 3D Touch, or double-tap and hold it,
flick to Open Controls, and double-tap. You'll be able to turn the mic on on
the screen that opens. Once it's on, it should be on for all future recordings
unless you turn it off.

Best,

explained in the Apple Support article and used it to record a one plus minute

A Quick Question About Customizing iOS Native Calendar App Alerts

2018-03-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

When I create a new appointment in the native iOS Calendar app, on my 8
Plus, there does not seem to be a way of customizing the appointment
reminder alerts.

For example, I would like an alert reminder for 4 days. However, in the
app, the options go from 2 days to 1 week.

Question, is there a way to customize the appointment reminder alert from
within the native iOS Calendar app, itself?

I ask this because, if I create an iCloud calendar appointment via Microsoft
Outlook, I can customize the alerts to anytime I like.

Sometimes, I'll create the appointment on my phone, when out-and-about, then
modify it, later, when I'm back at home, using Outlook on my Windows PC. It
would be nice to skip this second step, if possible.

Just so you know, the iOS app honors any alert settings set via MS Outlook.

Thank you,

Mark

RE: Help Needed with Screen Recording not Capturing Audio

2018-03-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Best,
Anna

Hello List,

I'm reporting an issue with one of my apps and their support person has asked
that I capture a screen recording that plays the video and audio of what I'm
experiencing. I added the screen recorder control to control center as
explained in the Apple Support article and used it to record a one plus minute
session with the app in question. However, when I retrieved and played the
video from the Photos app, no audio was captured. Is there a bug causing this
issue or is there some step I omitted that is needed to also capture the audio?

I would very much appreciate any assistance so I can submit a recording which
also contains audio.

RE: Spotify: what is it?

2018-03-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Spotify is a music streaming service very similar to Apple Music. If you have a
paid subscription you can play any artist on demand and also download music
offline.
I have no idea how this relates to emergency calling since it has nothing to do
with it.

Of course, I see it every time I have to visit "settings" but what does it do?
I got a message yesterday asking if I wanted to complete my signing up with it?
 I was, nearly, done!
The only thing that I had done was to take a gander at "call emergency
services", but I didn't do anything, or if I did, it was by mistake. Is that
what would have caused spotify to think that I was signing up with it?
If I wanted to call emergency services, I would ask my dear friend, Siri, to do
it!

2018-03-06 Thread Flor Lynch
I’ve been waiting for a few hours in vain for an SMS that Apple/iTunes say is
sent by PayPal in order that one can confirm one’s purchase of a subscription.
So, Does PayPal send SMS verification codes for confirmation of purchases made
with it through the App Store??

Hi alan,

I'm sorry you couldn't get enough volume on the 7 to make a good recording. I
was getting similar performance on the X and the 5s, though I didn't do all
that much with either one. Given that, I would have expected performance to be
more consistent. I'm glad you were able to fix the problewm with the app at
least. And now you know more than you ever wanted to about screen recording. LOL

All the best,
Anna

  Hi Anna,

Well, it's been a learning experience although my final comment is that the
screen recorder at least on my iPhone 7 doesn't record the Voiceover audio loud
enough to be usable. Apple Accessibility was very helpful at making some
suggestions and the main thing they helped me with is to turn off my audio
ducking setting. Audio ducking has never really worked all that well for me and
has consistently been a problem causer with Voiceover. I noticed that when I
turned off audio ducking and restarted my phone, the app that had the problem
which I was trying to record in order to submit to their Support, now works
correctly. I'm leaving audio ducking off going forward.

I will end this thread by saying that the screen recorder just doesn't work
right on my iPhone 7. With wired earpods connected, I hear Voiceover just fine
when recording but since audio output is going to the earpods, nothing spoken
by Voiceover gets recorded. When I disconnect the earpods and try another
screen recording with my volume turned all the way up, I can just barely hear
Voiceover enough to generate the recording but the volume is so low on that
recording that it could not be submitted to anyone for support purposes. I told
this to Apple Accessibility but my sense is that different devices are getting
different results with the screen recorder. My support rep has an iPhone X and
she seems to be getting pretty good results. Why am I not surprised that their
latest $1000+ device works the best. I believe you're getting similar results.

At least I figured out the issue with my app and no longer need a screen
recording. Thanks so much for your help with this thread.

  Hi Alan,

Try turning up the volume while VoiceOver is speaking through the earpiece.
You probably can't get it as loud as would be ideal, but you may be able to get
it to a tolerable level. That was my experience

  Anna,

Thanks for your help. This is the sort of frustrating inconsistency with iOS
and its various devices that I find most offputting When I follow the steps you
outlined and leave my wired earpods plugged in, I hear Voiceover just fine
through them as I'm making the recording but none of the Voiceover audio is
picked up in the recording. I can hear that the microphone is on because the
low level hiss is picked up but none of the spoken Voiceover words are
recorded. If I have no earpods connected and try to screen record, I can't hear
any audio so that making the recording is all but impossible as I'm not getting
any audible feedback. When I play that recording within the photos app, I can
just barely hear the Voiceover audio but it certainly isn't loud enough to
submit it to anyone for tech support with a Voiceover issue.

I guess I'm stuck either writing Apple Accessibility, opening a case with
AppleCare, or going to the Apple Store. Any of these options will take
considerable time which I find exceedingly frustrating.

Is anyone else having a problem similar to mine or did I just dream a past
similar thread?

  Hi Alan,

  I have an iPhone X. I didn't have a luck-up when I turned on the mic. When I
do a recording, VoiceOver gets quieter; I think it goes to the earpiece - but
it doesn't stop altogether. I tried the same thing with a 5s and had the same
results. Maybe try restarting your phone to see if you'll have better luck.
