From the URL I provided it says the following about the outgoing port:

 * *Outgoing Email Server:* mail.twc.com
 * *Port:* 587
 * *Requires Authentication:***Yes, or checked

I hope this helps.

Hello,

Sounds like your smtp server does not allow sending messages from outside their

explain your issue.

You could ask your e-mail provider if they offer what is known as an
authenticated smtp service. If not you can buy this service at a relatively
low cost. You then use the server and enter its credentials and you can send
e-mail from wherever you like no matter what network you are connected to.

Here in the UK EE my internet service provider does not offer an e-mail
service. I have an imap service with a company called names.com. I also have
authenticated smtp from them so I can send and receive e-mail without
difficulties.

Hope that makes sense.

Re: I've decided to use Outlook on my iPhone for email, but I have questions about it.

2019-09-04 Thread Richard Turner
Kevin,
In the Mail settings for the native mail app you can limit the preview so you
only know who it was from and the subject.
You can also set if newest messages are on top or not.
That may require that threading is on; not sure.
I do not find those settings in the Outlook app.
I think again, with the native app, in the settings, I think you can set
syncing to no limits; but maybe that is the calendar.
The limited numbers may indeed be a limit from either the iMap settings, or
just the server.
Best of luck dealing with that many messages.

Hi.

I was instructed by AT support to try to use the Outlook app on my iPhone for
my I map issue, and it appears to work the way I want. I do, however, have
some questions regarding this app, and they’re similar to what I asked
concerning the native mail app. There are, however, some others I have.

First, how do I get Outlook to show individual messages rather then group them
by conversation?

Is there a way to sort the messages in ascending order rather than have the
most recent message on top?

How do I get all the messages from my Exchange account into the app at once?
There is an option to get a few more at once, but that would take me forever to
get over 160,000 messages, and I’d like to be able to use the app to organize
all the older ones.

Is there a way to have Outlook display the date and time a message was received?

Now for two other questions, and they’re new ones. One deals with Outlook, and
the other concerns the native mail app, and specifically deleting the accounts
from it.

My outlook question deals with hearing part of a message when I’m looking at it
in the In Box. I don’t want that. All I want is to hear where it came from,
the subject, and when it was received. If it appears to be something I’d like
to read, I would then open it and read it for myself.

As for the native mail app, what happens if I delete my accounts from it? I
want to be sure that if I do delete the accounts, my email on my Exchange and I
map servers won’t be deleted as well. If they would be removed, I would not be
happy, because I would lose a very very large amount of messages that I want to
examine. Most of these will be deleted, but some will be moved to the archive
folder. Will I be safe removing the accounts from the native mail app?

Thanks in advance for any help. Right now I have two email apps with similar
information in them. I’m hoping to be able to switch from the native app to
Outlook with minimal effort. Currently I’m using my PC to work with my
messages, and until I can get Outlook on my iPhone configured the way I want,
I’ll be continuing to use the native app to go through email when I’m out.

Have a blessed day and don’t work too hard.

Manage Health data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch, Apple Support

2019-09-04 Thread M. Taylor
Manage Health data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch

You can set up apps and accessories to send data to the Health app, enter
data manually, and change how Health prioritizes data from those sources.

How Health handles data from multiple sources
The Health app takes similar data from different sources, like steps
recorded from your iPhone and activity from your Apple Watch, and organizes
it based on where it comes from. By default, Health prioritizes data in this
order:
1. Health data that you enter manually.
2. Data from your iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple Watch.
3. Data from apps and Bluetooth devices.

When you add a new data source, it appears above all other apps and devices
that contribute data for steps in Health. You can change the order of
sources at any time.

View your data sources
Here's how to see which sources update data for specific Health categories:
1. Open the Health app and tap the Health Data tab.
2. Tap a category, like Activity. If you don't see the category, swipe
down to reveal the search bar, then enter a category.
3. Tap a data type, like Steps.
4. Tap Data Sources & Access. Only the sources that contribute to that
data type will appear.

Here's how to see all of your sources:
1. Open the Health app and tap the Sources tab.
2. Tap an app or device.
3. Choose categories that you want the source to access or update in
the Health app.

Prioritize data sources
Here's how to choose the sources that Health uses first:
1. Open the Health app and tap the Health Data tab.
2. Tap a category, like Activity.
3. Tap a data type, like Steps.
4. Tap Data Sources & Access, then tap Edit.
5. Touch and hold next to a data source, then drag it up or down in
the list.
6. To turn off a data source so that it doesn't contribute any more
data for that category, tap the checkmark next to the source.
7. Tap Done.
If multiple sources contribute the same data type, then the data source at
the top will take priority over other sources. Any new apps or devices that
you add go to the top of the list automatically, above your iPhone or iPod
touch.

Enter data
You can enter data that isn't tracked by an app or device. For example, if
you get your blood pressure from a doctor's visit, you can enter it.
1. Open the Health app and tap the Health Data tab.
2. Tap a health category, like Vitals.
3. Tap a data type, like Blood Pressure.
4. Tap , in the upper-right corner.
5. Enter the date, time, and data for that activity.
6. When you're finished, tap Add.

Explore more Health features
. Set up and use the Health app on your iPhone or iPod touch.
. Set up a Medical ID in the Health app to access important medical
information.
. Track your sleep with Bedtime in the Clock app.
. With iOS 11.3, you can see your health records from multiple
institutions right on your iPhone. Add your health records and see the
supported institutions.

RE: Talking Thermostats

2019-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That depends entirely on your schedule and who else lives in your house and
their schedule. At my retail store we also use connected thermostats and since
there are of course regular hours it is easy to set a schedule for the heat to
come on about half an hour before opening time and get things to a certain
level and to also get it to turn the heat down to 15 Celsius about 15 minutes
before closing However, at our house this wouldn't work because my wife usually
comes to the store 3 or 4 times a week and sometimes she goes with me in the
morning and sometimes she comes later, sometimes I may go at 7 AM and other
times at Noon. It is much easier for us to use our smart thermostat with our
smart speakers at home or, when we are both at the store, on our iPhones to
turn the heat up a bit before we go home or to turn it down if we forget to
tell Alexa or the Google Home to do so when we leave.

The thing about programmable thermostats is that it is usually a set and forget
thing. I hardly ever have occasion to diddle with the thermostat once the
programming is done.

I have a different model of a Honeywell thermostat and while the control
panel is a touch screen, my sighted wife can control it and if needed,
program it on the touch screen.
The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver.
And, I just had my wife check, it would be very easy to put a tactile dot,
we call them lock dots, that are tiny and clear, on the up, down, and done
buttons so a blind person could adjust the temperature without the internet
access.
The guy who installed ours was doing that while my wife was out, but he told
me the info I needed to set up the app, the mac address number is the key
since you have to have that since it is the unique identifier for your
specific thermostat.

It is, as Sieghard said, hardwired, and personally, I think it is worth
paying to have that done as it protects the warrantee.

Hi Robin,

Yes, the Honeywell thermostat can be used just like any thermostat, but I
don't think it could be done by a blind person since it is a touch screen.
Maybe with the help of a sighted assistant from Aira or Be My Eyes it could
be done, never tried it nor did I ever try to have a sighted person make
some sort of tactile overlay or put dots on the touch screen to see if that
works. I still have a plain old $20 mechanical thermostat in my house as
well (the one with the lever underneath which you push from left to right)
so if the smart thermostat for some reason does not work I can simply use
it. I must say, however, that I probably had to do this once or twice in the
years I had my smart thermostat, but it of course all depends on how
reliable your internet is. There have been definitely more times when a
power outage which lasted more than 3 or 4 hours was an issue although for
us it's also not such a big issue even in the winter since we have a wood
stove which can easily heat the entire upstairs of our house if we leave all
the doors open.
And yes, just as any smart thermostat I have ever seen this Honeywell Lyric
T5 has to be hardwired.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,
Can you tell us more about the Honeywell thermostat? I.E. what is the unit

connectivity is down can someone who is still blind operate it manually in
any kind of fashion? Can sighted people operate it manually for instance

Is it hard wired or is it like the talking thermostat that started this

Sometimes you can accidently turn speech off, but voice over will still be on.

I think I might know what could possibly be the issue. When speech volume is
set to 0 in the rotor, you wont get speech unless you're using Alex for some
reason. He will speak if the rotor volume is below 5 percent. So here's what to
try. Make sure your phone is unlocked and turn the rotor and flick up once each
time you turn it. I'm not sure how many things you have in your rotor, but 10
times of turning and flicking up once might get you to the volume. A lot of
people have lost speech and got it back by doing this. Actually I've given this
advice to several people here on this list over the years and they've had
success with it.

Re: A Voice Dream Testimonial

2019-09-04 Thread Michael Feir
Thanks to Voice Dream Reader, I can go off the beeten path and use sources
for books like
www.storybundle.com
www.humblebundle.com
www.bundleofholding.com
and many others. This has let me build my library and discover many
fascinating stories. Also, I've been able to find book bundles about topics
dear to me such as game creation, roleplaying games, creative writing, and
more. These books would never be made accessible by libraries for the
blind. I have also backed authors on Kickstarter and been able to read the
books which were published due to backers like me. A splendid example of
this was the Sherlock Meets Steampunk kickstarter. That one netted me a
whole lot of perfectly accessible Sherlock Holmes anthologies I never would
have otherwise found out about let alone been able to obtain accessibly.
Voice Dream Reader opens a tremendous realm of reading territory.

Hi Wayne, I certainly agree with your assessment of the voice dream reader and
scanner product. However, it is not true that the only books you can’t read are
Apple Books. You can’t read any books with DRM, unless you have gotten rid of
the DRM, a topic which is not up for discussion on this list for obvious

Re: Talking Thermostats

The thing about programmable thermostats is that it is usually a set and
forget thing. I hardly ever have occasion to diddle with the thermostat once
the programming is done.

I.E. what is the unit
itself like does it have any controls on it in the event that internet
connectivity is down can someone who is still blind operate it manually in
any kind of fashion? Can sighted people operate it manually for instance
just raising or lowering temperature settings that sort of thing I didn't
mean programming of course.
Is it hard wired or is it like the talking thermostat that started this
thread which was powered by 4 AA batteries?

Thanks as always for insights shared from experience.

There are many good connected thermostats available these days, I am sure
Nest thermostats are good, but they do seem to be pricy and I have a
Honeywell Lyric T5 (I think there is probably a newer model now) which also
works very well and has an accessible app and it only costs less than half
of what a Nest costs.

A Voice Dream Testimonial

2019-09-04 Thread Duane Steele
This platform, besides answering questions about issues raised with APPS on our
iDevices, is a great forum to recommend great APPS. With all the discussion
about whether or not to purchase Voice Dream Reader, I'll go on record daring
to say that Voice Dream Reader's one of the greatest programs ever created for
our devices. You can read books from Bookshare and Gutenberg, import documents
from Dropbox and other cloud storage, open and read files in all kinds of
formats including PDF and mp3, and you even have the option of reading in
audio, and, if using a braille device, in braille. Although you can purchase
Voice Dream's APPS separately, I highly recommend Voice Dream Reader and Voice
Dream Scanner as purchases worth far more than the price tag in the APP store
indicates. The only texts you can’t read are APPLE books and thats only
because iTunes doesn’t allow access by Voice Dream.

Re: iphone not talking

2019-09-04 Thread Gordon
I think I might know what could possibly be the issue. When speech
volume is set to 0 in the rotor, you wont get speech unless you're using
Alex for some reason. He will speak if the rotor volume is below 5
percent. So here's what to try. Make sure your phone is unlocked and
turn the rotor and flick up once each time you turn it. I'm not sure how
many things you have in your rotor, but 10 times of turning and flicking
up once might get you to the volume. A lot of people have lost speech
and got it back by doing this. Actually I've given this advice to
several people here on this list over the years and they've had success
with it.

I think that you need to report to Apple accessibility for your

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver.
And, I just had my wife check, it would be very easy to put a tactile dot, we
call them lock dots, that are tiny and clear, on the up, down, and done buttons
so a blind person could adjust the temperature without the internet access.
The guy who installed ours was doing that while my wife was out, but he told me
the info I needed to set up the app, the mac address number is the key since
you have to have that since it is the unique identifier for your specific
thermostat.

It is, as Sieghard said, hardwired, and personally, I think it is worth paying
to have that done as it protects the warrantee.

Hi Robin,

Yes, the Honeywell thermostat can be used just like any thermostat, but I don't
think it could be done by a blind person since it is a touch screen. Maybe with
the help of a sighted assistant from Aira or Be My Eyes it could be done, never
tried it nor did I ever try to have a sighted person make some sort of tactile
overlay or put dots on the touch screen to see if that works. I still have a
plain old $20 mechanical thermostat in my house as well (the one with the lever
underneath which you push from left to right) so if the smart thermostat for
some reason does not work I can simply use it. I must say, however, that I
probably had to do this once or twice in the years I had my smart thermostat,
but it of course all depends on how reliable your internet is. There have been
definitely more times when a power outage which lasted more than 3 or 4 hours
was an issue although for us it's also not such a big issue even in the winter
since we have a wood stove which can easily heat the entire upstairs of our
house if we leave all the doors open.
And yes, just as any smart thermostat I have ever seen this Honeywell Lyric T5
has to be hardwired.

Regards,
Sieghard

Good to know than you. So the hard wiring gives it its power but is it

RE: Talking thermostat.

2019-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Anybody who gets a connected smart thermostat who is concerned about the
thermostat not working could always ask the installer who is usually needed to
install such a device to also install an old-fashioned mechanical thermostat
next to it. Under normal circumstances just keep the lever all the way to one
side so the heat would never come on, but if for some reason your internet is
down or you can't use the smart thermostat you have an easy work-around, just
push the lever of your mechanical thermostat to the right (most of them make it
warmer the further to the right you go) and you are done. You could even get
somebody to make a tactile marking at what you consider a comfortable
temperature like 21 Celsius. Tone of these costs maybe $15 or $20 at most and
it would take an installer an extra 5 minutes to hook it up.

You can also look up the standalone VIP 3000 thermostat and see if they have it
on Amazon.

Also check and see if they have ones controlled using the Internet. Also, goes
if internet down you could use Be My Eyes or use FaceTime so there’s always
work around as you guys are well aware of.

Re: A Strange Speaker Sound Scenario with Mark's Apple Watch, Series 4, with LTE

2019-09-04 Thread Angie Nutt
I’ve had the same problem with both my Apple watches and it has never cleared
up on its own. I haven’t tried resetting and pairing again as yet. In both
cases they accidentally got dowsed with water from a tap.

All the best
Angie
