RE: Question about Rotor.

2019-10-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

When you want it you turn the figurative knob, i.e. you make a sort of turning
gesture with two fingers on the screen a bit apart, you can turn clockwise or
counter-clockwise. If you don't want to change anything in the rotor, don't
turn it.

Thanks, Anna. How do I get it when I want it, and not have it, when I don't?

Best regards,

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

the rotor is a way to choose how to navigate. Pretend there's a knob between
two fingers and twist the knob left or right to move through the choices. When
you find the one you want, flick up or down to move backward or forward by that
element. So to move by headings, you would turn the rotor to headings and then
flick down to go to the next one or up to go to the previous one.

HTH,
Anna

Re: strange problem within a couple of Apps, phone reads by itself

2019-10-03 Thread Christina
I’m not sure that I completely understand, but I highly recommend that you
clear your app switcher, power down your iPhone, wait a few minutes and power
it back up. I have had to do this more than usual since iOS 13 and it has fixed
some glitches I didn’t expect it to fix.

Re: Another Question About Selecting Text

2019-10-03 Thread Christina
Always make sure you have a cursor in an edit field, otherwise, you might not
find the edit in the rotor. If you are in in an edit field and you still don’t
have the edit option in the rotor, do what Richard suggested below. Also, on
rare occasions, I will have to type a space then delete it and then the edit
will show up in the rotor.

Hi.

For those who wonder what I mean, it’s simply having the ability to have the
display automatically going to the next part of what’s displayed after a brief
time. I know some displays have this built in, but I wondered if the iPhone
could do this. I called up Apple Accessibility, but the only way the person
helping me thought this could be done was to press R-chord to start Voiceover
reading, and that would just work for what’s currently on the screen. If you
have to rely on Voiceover to do this, then is there a way to get it to start
reading the screen, and it continues to the end of an email message even if
it’s on more than one screen? I really hope this isn’t tied to speech, because
even at a relatively slow rate, the braille would advance a little faster than
I want.

Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Is there an app that replaces MoneyReader?

2019-10-03 Thread Merv Keck
I’m not planning on upgrading my 8+ until spring of 2021 or Fall 2020 at the
earliest. If Money Reader is not back I use US currency and not a lot of that
anymore. I rarely carry cash these days. I tested the latest Seeing a I which I
think is 3.2.2 but I may be mistaken. I found it to be absolutely 100% adequate
for my needs. I have no plans and even less desire to subscribe to a money
reading app as long as Seeing A I can give me what I need for free.

RE: Problem continuously scrolling in native Twitter app

2019-10-03 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Kathy and all.

I rarely use the Twitter app, and I haven't done so since the upgrade, but it
sounds like Voiceover is doing exactly what it's supposed to, and that's just
reading the current screen. This is an area where, if it's there, the vertical
scroll is really handy. You can move through a percentage of what's displayed.
I like the concept. I currently have too many email messages for it to be
useful, but I see why some would like it. I don't know if this is on the
Twitter app, but check it out.

RE: please help to confirm these bugs or not

2019-10-03 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I can confirm the S chord on a home screen doesn’t go to the status bar. I
really appreciate someone bringing this one up, because I thought something was
broken on my end. Well, technically it is, but at least I know I didn’t do
anything to cause it other than upgrade the iOS.

By the way, when I refer to Chord, I’m meaning keys you press along with the
SPACE key on a braille keyboard. I don’t particularly care for the way Apple
lists the commands rather than the letters they represent. I’ll give you two
such examples. The Status line access is one of these. It is dots 2, 3, 4 and
space at the same time, but I sure find it easier to remember it’s an S-chord.
Also, to get to the home screen, the dot combination is 2, 4, 5 along with the
space bar. If you haven’t figured it out yet, it’s an H-chord, H standing for
HOME. To get to the app switcher, just hit H-chord twice quickly, which is the
same as pressing the HOME button on an iPhone. There are other commands like
that which would be much easier to remember if you just thought of their letter
equivalents.

Have a blessed day and don’t work too hard.

I’m using the latest build with my iPhone 8 and a Braille Sense U2. An s-chord
won’t get me to the status bar on any home screen. I’m curious about what
others on the list will say, but it seems that Braille on IOS 13 is much less
stable than Braille on prior versions

I believe the Go To Status Bar command is broken from the home screen with

I reported that one under the 13.1 beta cycle.

Hi folks

First when being called by an unknown number and afterwards you want to add
that number as a contact, when filling in the forst name, you cannot edit this
field with voiceover.
Workaround: change the vo cursor to another field, go back and then you can
type.

Second, a possible brail command bug.
Situation: go to the home screen and press space+s thus space dots 234 to go to
the status bar. This nolonger works for different people I know about.

Davy

Re: Over Drive Is Now VoiceOver Accessible in iOS 13

2019-10-03 Thread Marie
I find Libby impossible to use with any reliability and they even state it
is not accessible with screen readers. But I use the Overdrive app and love
it. At first I felt the way you did but Mark gave a short tutorial and I
followed that and have been using it ever since. I can also easily download
books to my desktop with their desktop app. If you spend a little time with
it, it will becomes clear.

Yeah, in general, I didn't ever find the VoiceOver Overdrive experience on
iOS to be all that great be it with e or audiobooks.
In the sense that things were labeled and such, sure I suppose, but as far
as the user experience... It's not my first or second or third choice to
consume reading material on my iPhone.

Hi Mark,
I gave a really serious look at the libby app and also the OverDrive app a
while back, maybe even before iOS 12. It might’ve been iOS 11. I really
really couldn’t get it to work well, either one of them. I wanted to borrow
print ebooks, not audiobooks. With the OverDrive app, are you using the
print side or the Audible side? Do you have books sent to your Kindle app?
Or are you able to find them and read them efficiently within the overdrive
app? I just remember having all kinds of problems with anything having to do
with getting library books.

 Hi Mary,

I just hit the back button at each step where it was there.
Then, when all done, hit the back button again.
Then switched to the mail app, selected activity 1 on the rotor, and
your message read with the Samantha voice, with all punctuation.
So, as far as my quick test goes, it works as advertised.

2019-10-03 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Mary,

You don't have to have activities in the rotor. You can if you want to switch
to one manually, though. Are you running 13.1.2? Also, did you go back in and
make sure the activity is set the way you want it?

Best,
Anna

You shouldn't have to select the activity on the rotor. If you selected Mail in

Re: Apple pay

Have you tried your bank? My non-Apple friends are envious of Apple
Pay Cash. I send them paper checks using a free bill pay service.
They want me to use Venmo and other services and I tell them about the
superior fee structure and privacy that Apple offers.

It depends if you are upgrading. You say very little about your
situation. If you just bought an iPhone 11 and you have a 6s plus,
both phones will have separate backups in iCloud. I did not delete my
backup when I bought my new iPhone until I sold the old one because
the new iOS could have bugs like iOS 13 has now.

When people post to the list, please specify the country where you

There is no one world currency so specifying what currencies you want
access to would be extremely useful.

But then again, on the next day, I went in to 1 of my local TV station
Apps, to read a news story. The same sort of thing happened. I clicked

The even bigger question is, can I do anythough about it.

Any help would be so very much appreciated.

Re: Setting up an activity in iOS 13

2019-10-03 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Mary,
I just created an activity to use a different voice, set puncuation to all, and
only for the mail app.
I just hit the back button at each step where it was there.
Then, when all done, hit the back button again.
Then switched to the mail app, selected activity 1 on the rotor, and your
message read with the Samantha voice, with all punctuation.
So, as far as my quick test goes, it works as advertised.

changed the settings for table, row and column numbers to off. Then selected
the mail app as the one I wanted the activity to apply to. I never did find a

settings. I had to wait till today to get a mail message with a table in it.
But when I open that message, the activity I made did not work. I am probably
missing a step, doing something wrong. So before report this to Apple, can

Another Question About Selecting Text

2019-10-03 Thread Shirley Baker
A friend of mine has copied text to her clipboard to be pasted but she
couldn't find edit in her rotor to be able to choose paste. What do you do
to be able to paste it if edit is not in your rotor? Sometimes edit is there
and other times you can't find it on a particular website. This same thing
has happened to me.

2019-10-03 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
Yeah, in general, I didn't ever find the VoiceOver Overdrive experience on iOS
to be all that great be it with e or audiobooks.
In the sense that things were labeled and such, sure I suppose, but as far as
the user experience... It's not my first or second or third choice to consume

Hi Mark,
I gave a really serious look at the libby app and also the OverDrive app a
while back, maybe even before iOS 12. It might’ve been iOS 11. I really really
couldn’t get it to work well, either one of them. I wanted to borrow print
ebooks, not audiobooks. With the OverDrive app, are you using the print side or
the Audible side? Do you have books sent to your Kindle app? Or are you able to
find them and read them efficiently within the overdrive app? I just remember
having all kinds of problems with anything having to do with getting library
books.

Re: Over Drive Is Now VoiceOver Accessible in iOS 13

2019-10-03 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Mark,
I gave a really serious look at the libby app and also the OverDrive app a
while back, maybe even before iOS 12. It might’ve been iOS 11. I really really
couldn’t get it to work well, either one of them. I wanted to borrow print
ebooks, not audiobooks. With the OverDrive app, are you using the print side or
the Audible side? Do you have books sent to your Kindle app? Or are you able to
find them and read them efficiently within the overdrive app? I just remember
having all kinds of problems with anything having to do with getting library
books.

Hello Everyone,

I am delighted to inform you that Over Drive, the app used to borrow books
from the United States public library system, is now as VoiceOver
accessible, in iOS 13, as it is in iOS 12 and earlier.

Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard Shortcuts on iOS

2019-10-03 Thread 'Teresa Cochran' via VIPhone
Hi, all,

I've started using an old K480 that my husband bought. I tried looking up the
manual, and there's something on the Logitech site, but the actual table of
shortcut keys it refers to is either not accessible or not there. Could someone
tell me which keys are used for extended functions like insert, home, end
page-up and -down, etc.? I can navigate well with the keyboard, but only
without these functions.

TIA,
Teresa

Setting up an activity in iOS 13

2019-10-03 Thread Mary Otten
One of the reasons I updated my older phone to iOS 13.1 and then 13.1.2, was to
take advantage of the new activities feature. Accordingly, I have gone into
settings, voiceover, activities, and selected activity one. Within that, I
changed the settings for table, row and column numbers to off. Then selected
the mail app as the one I wanted the activity to apply to. I never did find a
done button or any such thing. So I just exited out of the app that is out of
settings. I had to wait till today to get a mail message with a table in it.
But when I open that message, the activity I made did not work. I am probably
missing a step, doing something wrong. So before report this to Apple, can
anyone comment on whether they’ve gotten activities to work, and what steps I
might have been missing.
Mary

RE: Has any one experienced the bug where you hang up a face time call and you lose all speech

2019-10-03 Thread Carolyn Arnold
It is that, and Jessica at Apple Accessibility told me they'd received a lot of
calls about it. She documented mine, because she said that the more calls they
received, the more attention it would draw to the problem.

Best regards,

That has never worked for me, when this happens on my phone all sounds are gone
and I mean "all", if I call the phone it doesn't ring or vibrate, if I activate
SIRI I hear no tone or SIRI speaks o answers (my sighted wife confirms it's all
there on the screen).
Having said all this, I made at least 6 or 8 calls y yesterday and this hasn't
once. This is after I tried a few calls as I said where I had a book playing
and also after I did a couple of hard resets the day before when it did happen.
It's a strange bug.

Is anyone using the iTunes remote. I use it quite often. This is the remote
for controlling your music selections and volume, not the Apple TV remote.

I’ve used the remote app for years. The problem is that my iPhone cannot find
my music library by the remote app. The problems seems to be that iTunes will
not keep my computer connected. I have to keep turning on home sharing within
the iTunes app. Is anyone else having trouble with this? Also I keep hearing
that the iTunes app is going to change big time and this app may become
obsolete anyway.

RE: Has any one experienced the bug where you hang up a face time call and you lose all speech

2019-10-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That has never worked for me, when this happens on my phone all sounds are gone
and I mean "all", if I call the phone it doesn't ring or vibrate, if I activate
SIRI I hear no tone or SIRI speaks o answers (my sighted wife confirms it's all
there on the screen).
Having said all this, I made at least 6 or 8 calls y yesterday and this hasn't
once. This is after I tried a few calls as I said where I had a book playing
and also after I did a couple of hard resets the day before when it did happen.
It's a strange bug.

Problem continuously scrolling in native Twitter app

2019-10-03 Thread Kathy Brandt
Past updates had restored the show more tweets button, but with this latest,
it’s gone again. After reading what it allows you to, there is a new tweets
button, but that puts you back at the top. I know probably they are thinking
people want to know what’s happening right then, but it should be my choice
when I want to go to new tweets. Placing one finger in the middle of the screen
and holding doesn’t seem to work now for letting me go past the point where the
display stops.

Question About Silence Unknown Callers

2019-10-03 Thread Shirley Baker
I was of the impression that silence unknown callers was supposed to do exactly
that but one got through this morning and the caller is not in my contact list.
I hope it's not going to end up being like call block because that never worked
because those calls kept coming through but both my phone and watch rang this
morning. Not very happy about that.

I have noticed that my battery usage has increased after updating to IOS 13.
One of the things that has been happening is when I finished with the phone and
just put it down the screen lock does not always take affect. I have walked
away and come back 10 minutes later and the phone is still in the ap that I was
previously using.

I have my screen lock time at 2 minutes. and have changed it to 30 seconds only

Any ideas about this?

Is anyone using the iTunes remote. I use it quite often. This is the remote
for controlling your music selections and volume, not the Apple TV remote.
I’ve used the remote app for years. The problem is that my iPhone cannot find
my music library by the remote app. The problems seems to be that iTunes will
not keep my computer connected. I have to keep turning on home sharing within
the iTunes app. Is anyone else having trouble with this? Also I keep hearing
that the iTunes app is going to change big time and this app may become
obsolete anyway.

RE: please help to confirm these bugs or not

2019-10-03 Thread Richard Turner
The adding an unknown caller to the contacts works fine.
You are mislead however, when it opens the contact VoiceOver says “is editing”
but in fact, it isn’t.
Double tap on the First Name field and you can enter text without having to go
to a different field first.

I believe the Go To Status Bar command is broken from the home screen with
any Bluetooth keyboard, braille or QWERTY. It works from within a folder
though.

This nolonger works for different people I know about.

iTunes remote

2019-10-03 Thread Tom Rash
Is anyone using the iTunes remote. I use it quite often. This is the
remote for controlling your music selections and volume, not the Apple TV
remote.

I've used the remote app for years. The problem is that my iPhone cannot
find my music library by the remote app. The problems seems to be that
iTunes will not keep my computer connected. I have to keep turning on home
sharing within the iTunes app. Is anyone else having trouble with this?
Also I keep hearing that the iTunes app is going to change big time and this
app may become obsolete anyway.

Go into the app store. Go to the updates tab, and swipe down, with 3
fingers, to refresh the page, and do an update all.

Hi Anthony,

No doubt the update for VDR will show up for you automatically, but if it
hasn't yet here is the answer from Christine's message.

"When you’re on the app store updates page, make sure to refresh the screen.
Make sure you are at the very top of the page and perform a 3-finger swipe
down. Then recheck what updates might be available and hopefully you’ll see the
VDR update."

Go in to the app store. Click on updates. And in there if there is one it
will show, you just click on update when your in there it should be the
button next to the voice dream reader update description.

That gesture does work, but only from within apps. I've tried it on the home

I have had some success with this by creating a Voice Over gesture to go to the
status bar. You do this from within the VO settings/ Commands.

Take care.

It works on the 11 Pro, 10S and 8 to my knowledge. The trick is you have to
be in the top row of icons for it to work.
