Re: Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Marty Hutchings
Using SIRI to call back is a good option. I don’t know how many times that I
have tried to call a sighted person and was in the process of leaving them a
voice mail when they called me back. It is not just a blind thing being to
slow to answer a call.

He does not really have enough vision for Zoom. Part of the issue is that he
responds slowly and when he hears the phone, then finds it, then makes any
gestors to answer the call, it goes to voice mail.

I did have another thought. After he misses his call, he can ask SIRI to call
back. Assuming that it is someone he knows or someone in his contact list,
Siri will perform a call back.

Not the greatest option, but maybe a doable solution.

Have you considered voice control? Since your client has some sight it could
be useful. Sadly, it does not work with VoiceOver as well as I, and others I
presoom, would like. But for low vision users, their is also Zoom which from
what people tell me, works quite well. I am totally blind, so cannot vouch for
how well or not, Zoom works.

  Not my first choice.

to touch his finger and slide to answer without voiceover.

Sadly, Siri will not read emails.

I suppose you could try turning on speak screen, but he would have to be able
to open the email first, and that does not sound possible. So I would write
Apple accessibility as well as call them and ask about getting Siri to read
emails. This is the one feature that it should've had from the start and is
stupid in my opinion that it does not.

will be too difficult for him to remember the voiceover commands.

There are two immediate things that I want to accomplish with him using
the Hey Siri command or any other speaking options if available.

First is there an easy way to answer a incoming phone call without being
able to see the screen. Second, we were able to successfully send an email

me the name of the sender and the subject line and does not read the actual
email message.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi, open Mail. Choose the Back button until you are at the main list of
mailboxes. Choose Edit at the top corner. Now, at the bottom of the
screen, choose new folder. In the edit field, give it a name. Swipe to
an unlabeled button and tap that to choose the location of this folder.
That should do it. All you have to do now is choose Done to go back to
the so-called normal mode.

I hope this helps.

Re: Message state still announced as unread even when email is open iOS 14.1

2020-10-21 Thread Shai
Hello Simon,
I am using an iPhone8 plus with the built-in mail app.
Perhaps I should also note that this behavior is occurring in the all
inboxes view but I am not sure if that would make a difference as this
had not been present on iOS 13.7.
I am also noticing that new mail received does not seem to be in view
by VoiceOver. In order for new mail to be in view, I first need to
back out of the all inboxes view with a two finger scrub gesture or by
tapping on the back button and double tap on all inboxes.

2020-10-21 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, does anyone know if they make an Otterbox case for the
series 5 watch, for a 42 MM?

I would think that they would. But if they do, I can't seem to find one.
However, maybe a different sized model works with the 42 MM?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

This I'm interested in,

What is the phone you are using?

And which of the email clients on your phone are you using,
The built in mail app or something else like outlook?

On my iPhone 11 pro max I am not finding this issue
That could be due to a slightly different IOS version but I can say it's not so

He does not really have enough vision for Zoom. Part of the issue is that he
responds slowly and when he hears the phone, then finds it, then makes any
gestors to answer the call, it goes to voice mail.

I did have another thought. After he misses his call, he can ask SIRI to call
back. Assuming that it is someone he knows or someone in his contact list,
Siri will perform a call back.

Not the greatest option, but maybe a doable solution.

Have you considered voice control? Since your client has some sight it could
be useful. Sadly, it does not work with VoiceOver as well as I, and others I

what people tell me, works quite well. I am totally blind, so cannot vouch for

Any help is much appreciated.

Interesting. I will review the auto answer with him. Maybe if it is a 30 or
60 second delay, it might work for him. Another good option.

I just checked the Auto answer settings. You can set it to auto answer between
3 and 60 seconds.

The setting is under settings, accessibility, touch.

Not the greatest option, but maybe a doable solution.

RE: Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread mmmat
Thanks for all your responses. I just don’t think that having head phones or
ear buds will work. That means that he will either have them on all the time
or quickly put them on when he gets a call. I don’t think he will be able to
react that quickly to answer the call.

I tried to show him how to quickly turn on voice over when he receives a call
and then do a two finger double tap. Again, too much for him to do in a short
period of time.

Voice command is an interesting possibility. I will experiment with this
some to check out the feasibility.

For many uses, Voice Control works fine with VoiceOver if you are using

Otherwise, there are some issues with it hearing VoiceOver and confusing it.

The bottom line in this use case though is I do not think it will help for
answering the phone.

I would like to be wrong about that.

I have read several messages claiming voice control works poorly with
voiceover. In fact, this is logical when not using any external listening
devices. The mike is constantly listening and so may react in unexpected ways
to a word or phrase spoken by Voiceover.

So, if you want/need to use voice control, do so with an external device with a
microphone. I love voice control for many situations and only wish it could be
used to activate features of programs once opened.

I am wondering because I have not yet been able to find a way to mute the voice

If it is possible, can you please explain how this can be accomplished?

Yes, using the wired earbuds would be the best way.

Sadly, the suggestion of Voice Control that someone made likely won’t work as
there is no voice command for answer phone that I’ve found.

You may be able to say tap answer button, but you would have to hang up
manually since voice control stops listening when you are on a call.

Hi,

One potential way to handle answering the phone could be to employ the Apple
earbuds. If you are using them and the phone rings, you can press the centre of
the control on the earbud cord. This will answer the phone call. The centre of
that control is also the microphone so you can simply talk away on the call. To
hang up you simply press the centre again after the call.

How feasible this will be depends on the individual wearing the earbuds with
the phone. A more expensive option could be to use Air Pods which are bluetooth
and provide a similar function. Other less expensive bluetooth headphone /
microphone devices may also provide a similar function. With bluetooth you
would not have to be physically tethered to the phone by a cord. However, you
would need to consider what needs to be done to care for the bluetooth devices.

Yes, SIRI can send emails but sadly, as you say, won't read them to you. SIRI
can send text messages and will read back any "new" (unread) text messages you
have waiting. SIRI will ask if you wish to reply to a given text message it
reads out.

If using Voiceover gestures presents difficulties, perhaps using the "voice
command" feature of IOS would help. "Voice Command" used to work in conjunction
with Voiceover but I have heard, but not confirmed, that under IOS 14.x, it no
longer does. Still, this might be an option for issuing IOS system commands.
Just a thought.

I have absolutely no idea what happened, but when I updated my phone plan or
maybe when I updated my IOS version, my voicemail and mailbox got messed up,
and now I need to set it up again.

The problem is this. I go to the setup button and it asks for a password. In
the past, I’ve had a four digit password I’ve used, and when I’ve tried
entering it and hit the “done” button, it tells me that the particular button
is dimmed. I don’t know how to proceed because it doesn’t let me. Do I need a
larger numbered password or something different?

Can I set it up differently or from some place else?

I’m going to have the same issue when I get my 12 in a few days, but people
aren’t able to leave me voice mails right now.

Re: Creating email folders within the iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread englishrider91
Hi, Jim,

The way I do it is this. Mind you, this used to work for Gmail, but hasn't
seemed to in a while, so hopefully it will work with an iCloud email account.
Anyhow, here's what you do. I have multiple email accounts in the Mail app, so
I back out until I'm at the main level. Then, I make sure the correct account
is expanded. Press the edit button in the top right-hand corner. You'll then
see a button called Create New Mailbox in the bottom right-hand corner.
Double-tap on that, type what you want the folder to be called, and press the
button called either Done or OK (I don't remember the exact name at the
moment). That should do it, if the feature isn't broken with iCloud email
accounts, that is.

Hope this helps,
Ari

when on a zoom call, can voiceover users use the chat within the zoom app?

2020-10-21 Thread 'Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.' via VIPhone
hi,
I am wondering if voiceover users can interact with the chat function when
participating on a zoom call?
I am wondering because I have not yet been able to find a way to mute the voice
is within the zoom call. I do not think I could possibly type and listen to
chat with the presentation or discussion going.
If it is possible, can you please explain how this can be accomplished?
Thanks in advance, Keith

RE: Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Richard Turner
For many uses, Voice Control works fine with VoiceOver if you are using
headphones.

RE: Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Richard Turner

Just a thought.

difficult for him to remember the voiceover commands.

There are two immediate things that I want to accomplish with him using the
Hey Siri command or any other speaking options if available.

First is there an easy way to answer a incoming phone call without being able
to see the screen. Second, we were able to successfully send an email message
using the Hey Siri command. Is there a way to have Siri read and email message
aloud. Every time I ask Siri to read my email messages, it only tells me the
name of the sender and the subject line and does not read the actual email
message.

Any help is much appreciated.

Check your battery charge level

If the battery is less than 50% then you wont get the update started.

Re: iOS14.1 Dimmed

2020-10-21 Thread Dave Clement
Hello,

I am guessing here but perhaps the dimmed update button is due to the fact that
the update is not yet available on your device. The "download and install"
process is a two-step operation. First, the new update is downloaded to your
device. Then, you are asked if you want to "install". You could, if you wanted,
stop at this point and not install at that moment. I assume that once the
update is downloaded to your device, the update button would no longer be
dimmed since it would be ready to go.

Re: Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Dave Clement

Re: Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Daniel MacDonald
Have you considered voice control? Since your client has some sight it could
be useful. Sadly, it does not work with VoiceOver as well as I, and others I
presoom, would like. But for low vision users, their is also Zoom which from
what people tell me, works quite well. I am totally blind, so cannot vouch for
how well or not, Zoom works.

If the battery is less than 50% then you wont get the update started.

I might decide to pick up knitting. When I was in college, in the early 70’s,
I learned to macramé and did quite a lot of plant hangers until there was no
one left needing or wanting another plant hanger, grin.
I know a few blind knitters who I’m sure would give me lessons, but that will
be a while thanks to the pandemic.

Take care,

How does one create folders within one’s email account on the iPhone? This

He’s using the native mail app on his phone with an iCloud account.

I have been hunting and hunting and can’t seem to find the answer.

Re: Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Richard Turner
There is no speak command to answer the phone.
There is an auto answer setting you can enable but that means it's going to
answer whether he's by the phone or not.
Not my first choice.
Otherwise I think voiceover gesture is the only way unless he can learn where
to touch his finger and slide to answer without voiceover.

Re: question about backing up your iPhone via Itunes

2020-10-21 Thread Kelly Pierce
It is likely that a repair will require an iOS restore. This is
because the OS needs to recognize the new hardware component. In this
instance, a replaced speaker. You should always do both an iCloud
backup and an iTunes backup, in the event one is corrupted. iTunes
backs up music, podcasts and videos. Check with NLS to learn if books
are ever backed up to iTunes or iCloud. I don’t have much downloaded
on the BARD app for this reason. I just download the books I am likely
to listen to in the next few months.

Answering iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread mmmat
Hi Group,

I am working with an individual that is very low vision and is also suffering
from a mild case of dementia and he gets overwhelmed easily. He is using an
iPhone 8 and I am very reluctant to turn on voice over. I think it will be too
difficult for him to remember the voiceover commands.

Mario

Re: Has anyone used Uber lately?

2020-10-21 Thread Kathy Brandt
I wish I had my phone next to me after completing a ride to make sure I’m
telling you right, but, when I go back into Uber and a mask to Ray, I double
tap on the one I wish, then go to add tip,, which is adjustable, flicking up.
One of the choices is other amount, which you would go to the right after
choosing that from the picker to write in the edit box. After entering in that
you double tap on the done button, and then again on set tip. If using what is
in the picker, you would hit I believe just the set tip button, and then done.

Creating email folders within the iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Jim Portillo
Hello,

I was asked the following question and cannot seem to find it; although I
remember doing this years ago!

How does one create folders within one's email account on the iPhone? This
person would like to move certain messages he gets into the created folder.

He's using the native mail app on his phone with an iCloud account.

I have been hunting and hunting and can't seem to find the answer.

Anyone know?

Jim

Voicemail issue

2020-10-21 Thread Jim Portillo
I have absolutely no idea what happened, but when I updated my phone plan or
maybe when I updated my IOS version, my voicemail and mailbox got messed up,
and now I need to set it up again.

The problem is this. I go to the setup button and it asks for a password.
In the past, I've had a four digit password I've used, and when I've tried
entering it and hit the "done" button, it tells me that the particular
button is dimmed. I don't know how to proceed because it doesn't let me. Do
I need a larger numbered password or something different?

Can I set it up differently or from some place else?

I'm going to have the same issue when I get my 12 in a few days, but people
aren't able to leave me voice mails right now.

Jim

Well, that is strange.
Try clearing out everything from the app switcher, rebooting, and see if it
still shows as dimmed.

Also Office 365.

RE: wired transfer of data from old to new iPhone

2020-10-21 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Vicky,
So, you do not have a WiFi network?
If not, I'd call Apple Accessibility and have them explain this wired transfer
method.
I had never heard of it until someone asked about it recently.
I have that adapter for use with thumb drives.
Maybe I should connect my old SE 1st generation with my new SE 2020 and see
what happens.
But, reading what you posted, it seems to me there are steps missing?

Subject: wired transfer of data from old to new iPhone

I've read and reread this, and I just can't figure it out. But since my only
internet is with my iPhone's personal hotspot, and seeing as I'm looking at
getting the iPhone 12 Mini when it is available, I'm trying to figure out how
to transfer my data to the new iPhone without using iTunes. Is the below saying
that I actually need two Lightning to USB cables?

Here is the excerpt I'm talking about, although I believe the links in the
article won't transfer as I copied this to my U2 Mini notetaker to send, taken
from:

https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.apple.com%2Fen-us%2FHT210216data=04%7C01%7C%7C8dc23ec7cc3749e3e0f208d875e1fb1e%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435%7C1%7C0%7C637388960718415644%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000sdata=H%2FSR4jtCi%2FkccU98MEN%2Fo6GtDpHCSnQVrqtTrL42IDg%3Dreserved=0

Migrate data from your iPhone using a wired connection You might choose the
wired method if the wireless network that you're using is slow or congested. To
migrate data from one iPhone to another using a wired connection, get a
Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and a Lightning to USB Cable, then follow
these steps:
Connect the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter to power through its Lightning
port. Make sure to use a 12W or higher power adapter.
Connect the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter to your current iPhone.
Plug the Lightning to USB Cable into your new iPhone, then connect the other
end to the adapter.
Continue by following the steps above.

Check your settings under settings, messages and make sure everything is
correct.

If that doesn’t work, then call Apple Accessibility.

Hi Anthony,

For folks to help, you didn’t quite give enough information. Is this happening
when you text someone using an iPhone, or is it happening when you are texting
to another type of phone, or both?

I think you may want to look at settings and messages. In there you can see
what your settings for messages look like. For instance, if you can’t send to
people who are not using an iPhone, then you want to make sure that “SMS”
messaging is turn on.

I hope that helps some.

Take care and be safe!

Can you please explain to me why evry time I try to send a text message it
isn’t being delivered. Any assistance would be appreciated.

RE: Crochet and Knit Counter on the app store

2020-10-21 Thread Richard Turner
Thanks Linda,
I am now retired, Wahoo!

Take care,

Richard

Re: Adding the Favorites Bar to Safari?

2020-10-21 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Fazil,

Open Safari Settings. In the General section, there is a favorites button.
Double-tap that and choose what you want displayed. That section also has a
Frequently Visited Sites toggle switch. Try turning that on. I hope these
settings display the information you want.

Best,
Anna

Hi Mike,
We have a similar model, MFC L2710DW and we did not need the app.
My wife followed the WiFi setup that you do on the printer, then there is a
button on the router that blinks and you press that, and wait until there is an
OK button on the printer display, press that, and it prints a connection
successful page.
After that, you select print from an app and hit find printer or whatever it is
called, and the printer just shows up.
Hopefully, if that doesn’t work, there is a Brother help center number in the
documentation.

Hi All,

We're running the SE 2020 2nd Gen iPhones, iOS 14.0.1 and we have a Brother
MFC-L3770CDW laser all in 1. I installed the Brother iPrint and Scan app, but
I can't find the Settings tab or any other tab. I'm stuck on the useage
information page.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get off this page and get to
Settings? Or, should I be using a different app to print from our iPhhones?
All help is gr eatly appreciated. Thanks much.

2020-10-21 Thread davycuppens
The focus bugs will only be fixed in ios14.2 because most items now are fixed
in the public beta ios 14.2 b4. And before people start wining do not talk
about betas, these are public betas so there is no reason not to mention about
them.

RE: IOS 14.1 is out

2020-10-21 Thread Les Kriegler
Harry, I have not experienced the focus issue in Mail. I did with IOS 13, but
no longer with version 14.
Best,

Les

My install took patience. It seemed to take quite a while.

Someone suggested getting Full Screen on another list. I can't understand
where, someone said in phone, someone said Accessibility, someone said, "below
Siri," I looked in Siri and below, as well as the others mentioned.

I’m downloading it now, but it's ironic that I hit the focus bug in the
software updates screen, so it took some patience just to get the install going
and then to monitor it's progress! 
