RE: Tiles and tile app? Not!

2017-02-04 Thread Pablo C. Morales
That is not true. You are able to replace one, or as many tiles you want. They
are going to give you a better price after you buy them the first time. If you
buy one tile, the price is higher than if you buy 12 tiles, but later you are
able to replace one, or as many you want. Now about the accessibility on the
tile app, I have found that on android this app is a lot more accessible. I
have been writing to the tile tech support regarding the accessibility on IOs,
but I haven’t seen any improvement, however on android is a lot better.

I have more than one year using tile, and it is very helpful, and moreover they
are pretty small. If we compare the size of the tiles with the other devices
that I have seen, really tile is very small. I don’t consider tile waste of
money, I think it is a tool that helps sighted and visually impaired.

battery in these things is supposed to last about a year after which you have
to buy a new Tile since the battery can’t be recharged or replaced. Yes, they
say they sell you consequent Tiles at a discount, but if you have a few of them
it still works out to another $4 or $6 or even more a months. I think many
people nowadays don’t realize how much we pay each months for renewing the
things we need and want. Start with the big things we all need like
rent/mortgage payments, then food, utilities and your monthly phone/internet
bill which are now considered essential services. Then there is your TV even if
all you have is a Netflix subscription, then most of us have some sort of music
subscription like Apple Music or Spotify, then many of us nowadays have some
sort of software which requires an annual software maintenance agreement or we
may subscribe to various software on a monthly or annual bases like Office 365,
KNFB Reader etc. Then there are the small things like maybe a bit of extra
iCloud Storage, optional devices like maybe a Ring Video Doorbell and on and on.

Secondly it appears that when you install the Tiles app and start using it, you
give the company permission to collect data about the movement of your Tile
which, if you put one on your phone or keys means your movement and to use said
data any which way they like including to share or sell it to third parties. I
guess you could argue that your phone already collects this data except when
you have an iPhone you can turn this or some of this off, you could choose to
turn off your phone completely if you don’t want to be tracked and, at least in
the case of Apple, I trust them the most that they aren’t sharing this
information with everybody who may want it. Apple unlike Google does not make
its money from gathering information about you which they can then use to
target you with ads, they make their money with devices and services and given
their stand on this in the past are probably one of the companies who cares
about privacy the most.

That's interesting. What do you mean by saying "it crashed the phone app." Can
you describe more what happens? I have an iPhone 7 with 128 GB, and would be

2016-12-18 Thread Pablo C. Morales
Mario,

Come on, don’t get mad. Just do the following exercise. How much you have
invested in all of these, and what are the benefits found after your
investment. Return on investment.

Yes, there is people saying things that irritate you, sometimes they try to
muck you, but what is the real effect on you when they don’t pay your food,
your computer, your internet, or anything else. At the end, why their opinion
is so important when they are not going to provide you anything?

Thank that the whole list say that you are right. Apple is no doing what they
have to do. It is going to make you taller, or skinner, or rich, or more
handsome?

No right?

So, let they say whatever they want, if what they are saying is good and
useable for you, then take it, if it is no. Press delete.

If tomorrow someone found a great app that is going to help you, take care and
take this email. If tomorrow someone say that you are crazy or many other
things, just press delete. It feels so good.

Don’t let that the opinion of others affect you so much. Your opinion about
your self is the most important. Whoever opinion about you, especially when
they have no real effect in your life, don’t worry, delete it. Do it, you will
see that doing it, feels so good.

I have bitten my writing tongue for some time since IOS 10 came out. I don’t
know where the moderators are for this list; but this topic needs a healthy and
fast stop.

Apple is not the only corporation making changes to software which either
change or make more difficult our use of the technology we have come to depend
upon. AVG has now become incompatible with JAWS for version 18. I went to
download the new version the other night, and it locked up my tablet to the
point where I had to make a mad dash to see my computer guys at Staples to help
me dig it out.

The fact is software always comes out with bugs. I didn’t understand that in
the beginning of the whole computer revolution, and I still don’t; however,
this is the way it is. As consumers, we must act accordingly. We can either
find work-arounds, change devices or wait for the next update. Whining about it
isn’t going to make it be fixed any faster, and approaching the manufactures
and writers of software with the negative tone I have seen by some on this list
won’t get anything done faster and might even curtail Apple’s willingness to
work at any of this.

Furthermore, turning this into a racial discrimination matter is just beyond
ridiculous. STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!

This list and its members just aren’t like that, and bringing that issue into
the discussion here is appalling .

We are all facing problems as technology changes, and all I can think of is
that we have way more than some of us had when growing up. People who want

About Sieghard, what I am saying that he always has showed a strong attitude in

Because we have people saying that all IOs have bugs, that don’t worry, it is

do with race of any kind. Sieghard was just pointing out that all smart phones
have their issues. He did not say Apple was the best. He was just trying to say

Mister Ed.

Could you please show in the list, publicly in which email I am saying that I
am being discriminated or segregated due to my race?

Also, could you show in the list, publicly in which email about this topic, I
am not saying that we need to do is complain to apple, call and send emails to
them?

Mister Ed, you need to be so careful with your answers, because you are showing
that you didn’t read my emails, and you are just generalizing putting Mario and
Me in the same box, it is very similar than segregation, and obviously you are
doing that due to our race. In any email I didn’t say that anybody is
discriminating me, or that I feel that someone is segregating me because of my
race, it is something that you are saying, no me. In all emails about this
topic, I have saying over and over that we need to write to apple, we need to
call and complain about it.

About Sieghard, what I am saying that he always has showed a strong attitude in
pro of apple, minimizing the IOs bugs, he always pretends to reduce the noise
that people makes about the apple bugs. Again, what he is doing is against the
accessibility. Against apple, and against himself. If we start to minimize the
noise of people that is complaining about the IOs bugs, it will not fix the
problem. He said that we need to complain to apple, and stop complaining in
the list. No, it is no positive for us. I said that we need to complain, here
and everywhere, about this bugs. It is the way how apple will pay attention to
these problems. Obviously apple is no so worry about fixing bugs, obviously
apple has les interest fixing voice over bugs. You and everybody here know that
we have bunches of bugs in voice over for years, and apple never fixed them. It
shows lack of interest.

Why they have lack of interest?

Because we have people saying that all IOs have bugs, that don’t worry, it is
an isolated problem, that this and that. Reducing the noise of people who is
being affected for these bugs.

I think that Sieghard is doing good asking the people to write to apple, he is
doing good asking to complain directly to apple. But we need to make these
problems public in the list, we need to make these problems visible to the
whole community.

Mister Ed, please be so careful with the answers that you are writing. Also I
suggest that you read the emails before generalize about this.

Wow, Pablo.
I make mine, your words.
Some American people do not admit or like to hear the truth.
They always discriminate the intelligence of those who are not American ...
And that's why in the past you were discriminated and insulted in this group.
I was here at that time and I heard all the bad things about you.
I am also discriminated in this group, and this will never change.
They always want to be right and do not admit that non-Americans have an

But I always say what I think, because I am free and I have my rights.

You can do also this:

1. You ask your friend if he/she has a Bluetooth speaker/headset that
they can bring to your home. You set the apple tv in your home, and connect
yours’s friend Bluetooth receiver in the new apple tv.

2. The other choice is that you also buy for your friend a Bluetooth
speaker or headset, and you set both devices connected to your home’s tv.

Well guys,

We own apple devices. If the quality of software is decreasing the usability of
our phones, apple watches, iPads, etc. We need to complained to apple. We need
to talk to them, we need to email them, we need to make noise, we need to make
public these problems, so apple will take care about it. But no saying anything
about this bugs, or defending the negligence of apple software developers, or
just making noise at home. We are no doing anything.

We need to write, call, make public these problems. So apple seeing that their
pocket is going to lose some money, then they will improve the software quality.

It could also both be true that IOS has some quality issues and Android

what has already been said a dozen times over. As you know very well yourself
Android isn't all it's made out to be and while you say you totally would have
an Android phone if you could see there are also thousands of ex-Android users
who can see and who love their new iPhones after making the switch. Then of
course there are those "happy" Android users who bought Samsung's new flagship

the iPhone 7 Apple would have been crucified and in a much worse way than
Samsung.

Headlines like your ssubject "Apple has a serious problem with software
quality" are typical link bait, you can go on Google and find lots of examples
for either one, here is just one example that swings the other way from Forbes:
"New Android Malware Strikes At Millions Of Smartphones".

Sometimes you even find something that is more objective like the summary of
this comparison article:

iOS 10 vs Android 7.0 Nougat: Conclusion.

In many respects, Android and iOS are very similar. They're both slick,
refined, competent mobile operating systems. Each has its advantages and unique
features, as well as frustrations and weaknesses.

Sorry, but it sound very similar than forcing you. Through stress, through

about it. But if your iPad still is able to receive tech support, then apple
will decline to give you tech support.
3. You had cancelled several times the announcements saying that you have a
IOs update.
One of these is why you are running IOs 9.

RE: Having to restart voice over

2016-12-11 Thread Pablo C. Morales
Oh wow, No, I didn't find that problem with emails. I found it using Siri
sometimes, not always, and also when I unlock my phone, sometimes also, no
always. What is happening more over is that the phone app crash when I double
tab on it. Voice over, and the whole phone stop working. I think it is a IOS
bug, because I had the same problem with my old iPhone 5s, and now with my new
iPhone 7.

Hi Chip,

What problem are you planning to report? I find it’s often a good idea to also
post it to the list and in fact I sometimes post something to the list and CC
Apple Accessibility on it or vice versa since sometimes what I think might be a
bug is something others don’t experience, have a fix for or in some cases Apple
may have changed how something is supposed to work and it may appear as a bug
when it is not. I am not saying this is the case with your issue, but if you
let the list know then others can try to reproduce it as well and add their
voice to yours in reporting it.

I have noticed that sometimes, very often, voice over crash when I unlock the
screen. Moreover I have noticed that opening the phone app, voice over is no
working, or the phone app is no working, I don't know where is the problem in
this case.

I don’t think it’s a voiceover issue specifically. as I said my music wasn’t
playing either. I could hear voiceover if I asked siri something, but when I
left that listen screen it went away again. something very buggy is happening
here.

RE: issues with uber update

2016-12-07 Thread Pablo C. Morales
Sorry, but it is no what is happening around the world with GPS. Myself as well
uber drivers all the time are hearing wrong indications through the GPS. For
some reason uber has been hiring different satilite serveces in the last
months. Here where I live, is no huge buildings, My building Is the highest
building, and it has 3 floors. So,
Why my Uber app says that I am 2 streets down?
Why maps or even google maps always says that I am no where I am?
I never has seen any gps with that range of accuracy, sorry, but I never has
seen one like that.
Here the drivers are always complaining about the guidance that the UBER
satilite app is giving to tthem.

I can't speak for the Uber app or the service as it is only available in a
few cities in Canada, but as far as GPS goes it should be accurate enough
for this purpose. Provided you have a good view of the sky and aren't in a
building or a super-narrow area surrounded by high-rise buildings GPS
accuracy should be 5 meters (about 16 feet) or for sure it should be 10
metres (about 32 feet). This mya not be good enough to find an exact spot,
but good enough for most uses.

I have taken this problem, but occasionally . I think that it depends of which
apps we have open in the background. I am not sure, but I have noticed that it

I have an iPhone 7 & I'm not having the described problem of the phone number
keypad disappearing once a call has been made. I've seen other messages from
people having the same problem, but haven't seen anyone have a solution to the
problem.

My friend has an iPhone 7 and for some reason even if I bring up the phone app
and select keypad and call a number once the number connects the keypad goes
away and you need to click on keypad to get it back.

Is there a setting that controls this?

I didn't see one.

I never have that problem with the iPhone 6 s I have and we are both running
the latest IOS.

Thanks for any help.

RE: Apple watch's Bluetooth capabilities

2016-12-02 Thread Pablo C. Morales
Yes, I agree that a virtual keyboard in that little screen makes no sense.
However if the apple watch has wifi capability, my iPhone needs to be connected
to the wifi first, and this settings are used for the apple watch. Now I have a
couple of questions based in this situation.

The apple watch keep permanently the wifi configurations stored in the apple
watch?

Or it needs always the iPhone around to be able to connect to a wifi. Once the
iPhone is connected to the wifi, the settings of this wifi are transferred to
the apple watch, or these settings needs to be transfer every time?

Thanks

No, I don't think so, the watch connects to the same network your phone is on
so there is no actual WiFi settings on the watch itself.

Also, note that there is no on-screen keyboard, you can reply to text messages
(or send them) using SIRI and SIRI alone.

There also is no phone keypad which in my opinion is stupid and unexplainable
to me since there is a keypad on the screen to enter your security code for
when the watch is not on your arm. When it's on your arm you can unlock it the
first time simply by unlocking your iPhone with touch Id, consequently you
don't have to unlock the watch as long as it stays on your arm. What I don't
get is why there is no phone DialPad if it clearly is possible to have a
functional keypad on the screen. Granted you don't often need it, but what if
you want to make a call with the watch where you have to navigate even a simple
menu like "Press 1 for Customer Servive" or "Press 2 for Technical Support".

RE: Identifi

The perception that being old, or over weight, or short, or blind as something
bad, is just opinions. The app is going to see that there is people with gray
hair, and it is a true like we are blind. Now if we perceive that being old or
being blind is something bad, it is our problem. I don't see as a problem that
the app detail these kind of things.

something weird with the mail app

2016-11-26 Thread Pablo C. Morales
I started noticing something in my mail app since I reset my iPhone 7
yesterday. Now I have in my mail app the following structure..

Mail boxes, heading

Edit, button

All inboxes, x number of unread messages, button

Below I have the list of all account in my iPhone. I wil open one of them,
however this issue is happening in all mailboxes.

I flick until

gmail, 2 unread messages, button

and I double tab.

If I start reading from the top, or if I start reading from any other part I
will heard a cancel button below the search text field. I am not in editing
mode on this text field. If I double tab on cancel button, nothing happen. I
didn't have this cancel button here before. What is this?

Hi Pablo,

Because the home button is no longer a mechanical button, the way to force a
restart or put your phone in DFU mode (if necessary) has changed a bit with
the iPhone 7. Instead of Power and Home button you press Power and Volume Down
button. Make sure you press the power button first, a bit ahead of pressing the
volume down button since otherwise you may accidently turn your volume down to
0 annd then when the phone restarts you may not hear Voiceover. Here is an
excerpt of an article from iMore.com and the link to it below:

How to reboot your iPhone 7

If your iPhone 7 stops responding and you can't even turn it off by holding
down the power button, you may need to force a reboot as follows:

1. Press and hold down the On/Off button on the right side

2. While continuing to hold the On/Off button, press and hold the volume down
button on the left side of your iPhone.

3. Hold both buttons as the screen turns off, and keep holding them until the
screen turns back on and displays the Apple logo.

You would hold it the usual length, about 6 or 8 seconds is enough. Hhere the
link to the full article which also includes instructions as to how you put an
iPhone 7 in DFU mode:

RE: iPhones on Consumer Cellular network

2016-11-22 Thread Pablo C. Morales
Hi Mr. Ed,
My apology,
I didn't see your previous email about this topic. Now I understand all of this
much better. I called to this company, and they gave me the following
information. For unlimited minutes, unlimited text messages, and 4gb of data,
is $90. I don't need unlimited text messages, but I need unlimited minutes, and
sometimes I need to work on the bus, or traveling, so I use a lot of data. $90
is cheaper than almost all other companies, but I just wanted to highlight the
cost of the data. This kind of plans are good for the most people, but in my
case could be more expensive than AT right now. We have a family plan, and
everyone is paying $35 per month, and we share 15gb between 6 phones. I use
the most part . Ha!

Hi Pablo,
Like I said in my previous email on this subject Consumer Cellular is own by A
T & T, so you will have the same single strength as being on A T & T. I believe
4 gig of data on Consumer Cellular is $40.00 and 1000 minutes of talk time is
$20.00. That is the nice thing about Consumer Cellular is you choose how many
minutes and data you want. If say you choose 4 gig of data and you only use 1.5
gig of data you can lower it down to 1.5 gig right at the end of the billing
cycle and save you self $20.00. Like myself I chose 500 mb and say I would use
1.5 gig they would move me up to that level after I go over the 500 mb. So say
the next month I see I am only going to use 400 mb I would change it back to
500 mb and save $5 or $ 10 bucks depending on where it was before I moved it
back to where I want it. If you do not understand all this you really don't
have to worry about it as they adjust your plan according to how much you use.
You will get an email telling you if you are getting close to the amount you
have chosen.
I think if you are with any of the big carriers and you move to Consumer
Cellular you will cut your bill in half or less. Also since your bill is a lot
cheaper you can buy your iPhone from them if you like and make payments for it
and your bill will still be lower than the big carriers.
Give them a call at (888) 345-5509 and they can explain it all to you. I will
bet you will find it a lot cheaper than the big carriers. What do you have to
lose by calling them and asking your questions.

Hi Kelly,
I am not sure I totally understand your question. When you switch over to
Consumer Cellular you will still have a way to check how many talk minutes,
text, and data you use. It still is listed under setting/cellular. Also
consumer Cellular has an app that is totally accessible and it list all your
usage on the simple to use app. Did you know that Consumer Cellular is owned by
A T So you are using the same towers as everyone who is on A T Just for
your information. My last bill was only $25.00 for the month. Then I have my
wife on my plan for $10.00. So to have to iPhones on Consumer Cellular only
cost me $35.00 a month. I know on Verizon it would have cost me around $140.00
for two iPhones. So I think that is quite a saving. That price is based on the
amount of talk, data I used. I would encourage any of you to go to
Consumercellular.com and check it out. You can also give them a call as they
have great tech support and would be able to tell you what it would cost you to
use their service. It is very easy to switch over. All you have to do is call
them and have them send you a free sim card for your iPhone and when you get it
you put it in and give them a call. They will switch you over and you can keep
your same phone number. They will take you off your old carrier for you and you
will be connected to Consumer Cellular. It is that easy.

I have only had Consumer Cellular, so I cannot speak to what happens when you
change from a major carrier, but Consumer Cellular has an app that shows your
minutes used, text messages used and data used. Granted, it is 24 to 48 hours
before you can truly trust the numbers. They also have a policy to alert you
via Email when you are approaching your monthly limit. Plus, now instead of
charging a penalty if you go over, they simply bump you up to the next level,
which is usually only $10 and since you ccan change plans monthly if you want
to, you can just change back at the start of the next month.
I've never fully understood the visual voice mail stuff, but voice mmail works
great and I don't have to call in to get it, it is just there on the phone.

Netflix tips

noticed that I was a little bit lost using this app, and I noticed also that
sometimes voice over got stock, or something there is no very accessible.
Anybody has some tips about how to handle this app, for example. During the

finished the registration. I have no idea what did I selected or what I
didn't selected, because sometimes is no way if something was selected or
not. How can I modify or check what is the current configuration of my
account?

Thanks

Yes, you can place apps that you don’t use in a place that you know. However
some people like me, I don’t like some apps that are built on my phone> now
with this IOs, I am able to remove from my phone some apps that came built in
my phone. Example: stocks app, or the iWatch app, or other apps that I just
don’t use. I deleted them, and now I have more space on my home screen, more

I am not sure which screen you are all talking about, but for my “Home” screen
holding all of my apps, I simply rearranged the order of thingsquite
extensively, placing things I don’t use at the end of the list and those things
I do use more often on the first page which saves me a great deal of time. I
don’t feel I need to really delete anything as I have enough space in memory
for those things I wish to do. Though I don’t use certain things offered, I
figure someone somewhere does. So I just put them out of my way and carry on.

As Pat Paulsen used to say “picky, picky, picky.” Grin.

I knew right after I sent that I should have done the process and made sure of
the button label. That’s what I get for getting older. Ha, Ha.

Hi Richard,

You are so wrong, can’t you give correct instructions? *grin*

The button at the top right is not “Save” but “Add”.

After all the feature is “Add to Homescreen” and not “Save to Homescreen”. Just
ask Todd, he’ll tell you (sorry, couldn’t help myself, just joking)

Sieghard

Yes.

While on that page in Safari, find the share button which is usually just above
the home button at the bottom of the screen.

Double tap that and flick left with one finger until you find “add to home
screen.”

Double tap and you will have an edit box where you can edit the name.

Just remember to double tap on the done or save button in the upper right.

HTH,

Richard

Hi all,

I have been out from the list for a few months. Now I am using an iPhone 7, and
I have a question for all of you.

Is there a way to create a shortcut, kind of icon app on the home page for a
specific web page, that when we double tab, opens that web page on safari in
one step?

Thank you so much,

RE: Braille commands for deleting app

More over, if we hear careful, we will notice that on activate, a few seconds
after, voice over says, default.

Hi Richard,

I think the "Activate" option which in fact should be "Delete" is not the
default. If it were and you were to double tap immediately after double tapping
on Arrange Apps without flicking up or down then the response should be the
prompt to delete the app, but the response is to Move he app so the default is
Move and not Activate/Delete and that is my story and I'm sticking to it *smile*

Todd and all,

I have my Braille Edge connected to my iPhone. The commands are the same for
all HIMS braille displays, so it is the same as your Braille Sense Mini.
I turned off speech so I am only going by what the display says.
The steps are:
1. Use cord-dot4 or dot 1 to get to the app you want to delete.
2. Press cord-dot6. When it shows "arrange apps" press cord-dots 3,6.
3. Press cord-dot6 again so it shows "activate default." Press cord-dots3,6.
4. It will say "delete app" at that point, hit cord-dot6 until you get to the
delete button and press cord-dots3,6.

Now, this is where Apple should make two changes.
When you are "arranging apps" and it shows "activate default" that should show
"delete default" since that is now the default action.
Also, to get out of edit mode, you have to press the physical home button on
the phone. If you press cord-h it will exit terminal mode and your display
won't be connected to your braille display.

I hope this is helpful.

Richard

to all,

the quote is blindness separates us form things and deafness separates us form
people.

blind gain wonderful things to have communication than deaf do. deaf is more
disabled than blind due to communication issues. sometimes apple staff don't
realize this. there are some issues apple staff don't guarantee by not dealing
with braille display users. they think what they belive, but they don't
realize. there are some issues that brialle users have.

todd, go to settings, then go to genreal, then go to storage and then there is
something that yo can look and enter app, then go down and find the word
"delete" and then it asks yo if yo are sure and you say yes and then app is
gone.

ssincerely,
rich

Dani,

Actually, there is really no way to do that!

Apple Inc. lacks this in a large way!

How can person who is profoundly deaf and totally blind see what the screen is
showing or see where to find on the screen!

Think about it.

Todd

Todd,
You have a Braille display from Hims--I see your mail on theHims Notetaker
list. I have a BrailleEdge. The process for deleting apps should be similar

You can't do it just using the keyboard on the Braille display. You've got to
use a combination of the keyboard and VO gestures. But there should be Braille
feedback of everything VO says.

1) Navigate to the app you want to delete using the Dot1/4 with spacebar.
When you get to the app
2) One-finger double-tap and hold on the app. VO should say, and Braille should
show"Moving [app name]."
3) Lift your finger and double-tap. You'll get a message asking whether you
want to delete the app. Navigate to the Delete button and double-tap it.
(You can use your finger or the cursor routing button
here.)
4) Hit your Home button to get out of app editing mode.

HTH,
Dani

RE: Small bug with labelling when moving apps in iOS 10

2016-11-19 Thread Pablo C. Morales
I haven’t taken any problem deleting apps. More over I was able to delete apps
that I never needed, and I really like this flexibility to let me choose what I
want and what no.

hi, I noticed it, but thought you couldn't delete apps that way, and left it at
that.

On 19/11/2016 08:20 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

Hi List and Apple Accessibility Team,

I just realized when I tried to explain to Todd how to delete apps that there
is a small mistake in how the “Activate” and “Move” options are labelled.

What Voiceover actually says if you swipe up or down on an app and double tap
on “Arrange Apps” is this (I am using the Facebook app as an example:

Activate, default

Move Facebook

However, in this case “Activate” which would prompt you to delete the Facebook
app is actually not the default because if you double tap on Arrange Apps and
then double tap a second time immediately without swiping up or down you end up
activating the Move function and not the delete function, so “Move” is actually
the default.

. Therefore, Voiceover should say simply “Activate” or, in this context it
would actually be more accurate if Voiceover said “Delete” or “Remove” and it
should further say “Move Facebook, default”.

In order to save myself some time I am CC’ing this email also to Apple
Accessibility, it’s not a big deal and since nobody has brought this up before
I assume I’m the first one to actually notice this, but that doesn’t mean they
can’t fix it and in fact improve the labelling/instructions by making it so the
“Activate” option says “Delete” or “Remove”.

Best regards,

Sieghard
