I have an ecobee thermostat, and Alexa is working just fine for me. Ecobee can either use HomeKit, or there are two Alexa skills that you can load for that particular thermostat. RE: Pro vs Max
Chiming in here, I had the 14 pro. I guess it depends on how much you use the phone. But I normally got two days out of each charge. But if you listen to music a lot or use GPS, it can drop your battery pretty quickly. I'm playing with a program called transcriptionist which can transcribe audio like a podcast into a txt file. And it is a battery hog. I tend to use my iPad mini for listening to podcasts at home. Paul Henrichsen p...@pfhj.org pfhj2...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: M. Taylor On Behalf Of M. Re: need help getting aple tv up and running
Hi. It’s the top button on the left that you want to hit. Not the top of the remote. Do you want to tap that top button on the left three times in that will bring up the menu where you can turn on voiceover and also audio description. I assume this is the newer AppleTV. Usually, it will ask you to put your iPhone near the Apple TV, so that I can get all of the information from your iPhone and help you do the set up. The other problem is switching the input on the TV remote. You want to make sure you’re on the right input with the Apple TV is. You might try pressing it and then flicking your finger across the trackpad on the top to see if the Apple TV makes any noise to let you know that you were on the right input. I’m assuming you press the top button on the right on the Apple TV control to turn the Apple TV on. So the top right button on the Apple TV is on and off. It’s just above the volume up and down button. Hope this helps. From: viphone@googlegroups.commailto:viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Richard Turner Sent: Wednesday, December 24, 2014 1:01 PM To: ViPone list Subject: The ScanJig OK, I now have seen what I consider the Cadillac of stands. I got the ScanJig at work Monday. I used KNFB Reader to scan the setup instructions, free-hand, and was able to figure out the pieces and put it together. I enjoy puzzles, so it was fun putting it together. It didn't take more than about 5 or 10 minutes to figure it out without sighted help. There are pictures of the pieces, so a sighted person could probably do it in 2. The ScanJig costs $30.00. It is made from hard plastic. It is a bit thicker than the other stands but it looks way more durable. It folds up into a box 13 by 9 and 1.5 inches thick. The beauty of the ScanJig is that it can hold anything from a smart phone to a tablet. It holds both the document and the device at an angle so there is less likelihood of casting a shadow over the document and it can capture the maximum of the room light or use the flash. There are no lights needed on the device itself. There is a movable Device Holder that snaps into one of four slots at various distances from the Document Shelf. On the Device Holder, is a little shelf that snaps in to hold the phone or tablet. There are 10 adjustment holes so you can get the optimum height of the device pointing at the document. I found with both the iPhone 5s and the 6, that the first slot, which is 11.5 inches from the document was the best position. I also found that if I put the shelf on the device holder in the second hole from the top, I can get the entire document even if it has narrow margins. There are some stick on pieces to help hold your device in place once you get the position where you want it. There are also two clips that can hold a document on the document shelf, for example, a tri-fold letter that wants to curl, you can clip it in place so it holds it steady. It is definitely more bulky when folded up than either the Giraffe Reader or the StandScan, but the fact that it will also hold a tablet from a full iPad to an iPad Mini or any smart phone I think gives it a big edge. Not to mention it is made out of much stronger material and at a great price. I'm going to paste the setup instructions below and also the link to their web site. www.scanjig.comhttp://www.scanjig.com Note: I added the focal distances to the setup instructions below. ScanJig Set-up Instructions Product Description: The ScanJig is designed for easy tactile positioning of both a smart device and documents for correct focus, alignment and field of view. Once set up - the stand holds smart phones or tablets in a vertical portrait orientation and at an angle where the device's touch screen interface is facing the user. The stand can also hold a document, in the same vertical portrait orientation, and angle, directly behind the smart phone or tablet. The device holder can be adjusted to position your device's rear lens to point directly at the center of the document. Once the device is positioned in the optimum location, stops can be applied to lock in this position. Then your phone or tablet can easily be placed in the same spot for each use. The product's open design takes advantage of ambient light and helps avoid shadows. Further the device flash is completely unobstructed if this feature is needed. What is stored inside the ScanJig * 1 - Smart Device Holder and Device Shelf - the device will sit on the shelf. * 2 - Document Clips - to better hold creased documents or small items. * 4 - Peal and Stick Device Stops - after your mobile device is positioned the stops help hold it in place and provide an easy way to quickly use the same position again. * 2 - Thin peal and stick spacers - if needed, these can be placed under your device for fine adjustment. Initial Set-Up 1 Lift up on the latch at the front end of the ScanJig and open the cover all the way until it stops. The inside of the cover is the Document Bed with a shelf on the bottom and a fence on the right. Place a document on the shelf and against the fence. 2 Positioning your device camera for a full screen view of the document. This initial set-up is done once, the optimum device position is then preserved by applying the peal and stick stops for subsequent uses.

Re: my Braille Sense on hand unpaired or something
Another thing to do is to find the braille display under your voiceover menu. There will be a more info button. Double tap on that and double tap on forget this item. Then start the pairing process again as you did the first time when you got the unit. I had to do this with my U2 as it wouldn’t pair until I had the phone forget the device so I could start over again. Hi. You can tap and hold on the episode the move your finger to the left. It will then say delete. However, I find this rather problematic. Many times, it just starts playing the episode again. Re: Text messages taken up storage on my iPhone when I don't have any help please
You should be able to double tap on saved messages then flick to the delete button. Unfortunately, with 7.1.2, double tapping on music or messages or whatever, does nothing. So, if you have 7.1.2, you are probably out of luck there. Re: How to Navigate the Mail app on an iPad with a Bluetooth Keyboard
Hi, Tom. I think that VO B is the only way to hit that back button on a bluetooth keyboard. What about having her hold down VO with her left two fingers then move her right finger one key to the left of the N key to hit the B key? Re: How to Navigate the Mail app on an iPad with a Bluetooth Keyboard
Hi, Tom. Just took a look at this. Unfortunately, pressing escape will close the mail app. One thing you could do is to use the arrow keys. Press the right and left arrow to turn quick nav on or off. It's a toggle. You can then use right and left arrows to move around the screen. Using left arrow will eventually get you to the back button. Pressing up and down arrow together will click the back button. You can use control up or down arrow to quickly move to the top or bottom of the screen. Not sure if she can do that. So, control up would quickly get you to the back button where you could then press up and down arrow simultaneously to click the back button. Hope this helps. The app is compatible for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. I also poked around accessibility under General in settings to see if there was a method to insert a sticky key function for the blue tooth keyboard like on the Macs in system preferences, but I didn't see anything promising. The keys are small, as I said, and your student may run into problems with that, but then again maybe not. Still, though it is expensive, it might be worth a try. Re: Tim Cook Being Sued over Automatic iOS 7 Updates
If you read the agreement, you will notice that you agree that apple can download updates to your phone whenever they need to. And why is it you don't seem to mind microsoft downloading updates to your computer whether you want them or not? Isn't that a double standard? How many of you didn't ask for internet explorer nine or ten, but got it anyway? It amazes me the people who have nothing else in their lives to do other than to whine about something they agreed to. Thank goodness you don'w own an android and have the youtube app. In the agreement, you agree that they can turn on your camera or microphone any time they wish without your permission or consent. Perhaps instead of pressing the agree button, you should actually read the agreement. After all, why would anyone want the new voiceover features in IOS 7 anyway? On Oct 19, 2013, at 1:09 AM, Pablo Morales pablomorale...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Chris. Well, I don't think that the only who has right to feel this issue of download the IOs without agreement is a violation is the people with iPhones or iDevices of 8 or 16 GB. What could happen if you use the property of Bill Gates to store your things, without his agreement? What could happen to you, if you place a car in the Bill gates parking lot, in his little home in Washington State? For sure he has a big parking lot, for sure he has a lot of properties. Now, because of that he should feel that you did is not a illegal action? For sure he will take legal actions against you. In the laws of United States, the property right is one of the fundamentals right in our constitution, and it is a right in the most countries on the world. What apple is doing, is using the resources of our devices, downloading bunches of data, storing it in the memory of our devices, without our agreement. No body can use your property without your agreement. More over, is no way to remove the data that apple stored in our devices, unless we install the operated system. Try to place a car in the Bill Gate parking lot, and keep it there until Bill Gates buy your car. Tell Bill Gates that you will not remove your car of his parking lot, until he pay you for that car, and tell me what happen. The law should be apply for every body, not just with the people who is not rich. The law is also for the people who is braking rights, not matter if they are apple, Bill Gates or Chris. So, the problem here is not if our iDevices are of 8 or 64Gb. The point here is that apple is violating a right of property, and not providing a solution for the people who doesn't want to install IOs what ever version they release. Remember, the update is only downloaded, not installed, to one's device, since one have to agree to the terms of conditions not once, but twice. Hi, John. As noted in another message, my messages app is just above the home button. If I tap and hold, it wants to move the icons in the doc. It would still be faster to just touch the top of the screen and then do the three finger swipe upgrin. The problem as I see it is this method isn't reliable enough to get 100 percent accuracy. Re: Major update to All Access Talking Menus
Hi, Tod. I have the same problem here in Fresno. Even though there are multiple chain restaurants within 10 miles of me, nothing comes up at all. Once, I was taken to a web site, I think for Red Robin, but no menu was there. It makes no sense that there would be no menus in my area. Thanks. Re: All Access
Hi, all. I am having the same problem with all access. None of the restaurants in my area (Fresno, CA) have menus and the one chain, Red Robin, just takes me to a web site. Sadly, I found the app useless and deleted it from my phone. I had really hoped this would have lots of menus at least for chain restaurants in my area, but sadly, no. Problems with I like to read pro
Hi guys. I'm having real problems with I like to read pro. I can't get it to show anything in the dropbox folder. I've put three html files, a text file, and a pdf file into the folder that the program sets up. However, when I open the app and go to the dropbox folder, the list shows as empty. Has anyone gotten the dropbox feature to work at all? I'm starting to get the feeling that I've been ripped off buying this app for $5. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. I let the iPhone rest on my fingers and type with a thumb on each side of the key board. I can type almost as fast as I can on my pc, although, I should say that I suck at typing. I can even type while I am walking. This app really works well, and i am getting very fast at selecting the proper words and puncuation. Manual input is still slow, but getting better. Re: Dish receivers 922, 722 and hopper/joey and streaming with i devices
I used to have a 922 and a 612. I was very disappointed to see the watch on tv feature disappear with the hopper. Sure wish we could get them to put it back. If I had known that the watch on tv feature was not available on the hopper, I probably wouldn't have switched. Sent from my iPhone On Jul 3, 2012, at 7:59 AM, Rick Alfaro rick.alf...@gmail.com wrote: Hi. I currently have the Hopper along with 2 Joeys. I also have a SlingBox adapter plugged into one of the USB ports on the Hopper. You can get the adapter for $30 from Dish. My experience with streaming has been ok for the most part. If you get the free Dish app for your iDevice, you can stream stuff on your DVR or watch live TV. Unfortunately, the part of the app that actually displays the video on your device has a bunch of unlabeled buttons so you really have to poke around to figure some of them out. The one big issue I have with this is that if you have a Hopper, the “watch on TV” option is no longer available. This option allows you to find something in the program guide and when you click on watch you can choose to watch it on your tv and not stream so it’s sort of like an accessible remote control allowing you to have it change the channel on your DVR to watch real time. This feature is there if you own a 722k or 922. Not sure why they decided to not make it available with the Hopper. I have spoken to them and also emailed them with no real responses so not sure if it will ever be added back again for the Hoppers. The Hopper has 3 tuners but it has the Prime Time Any Time feature. This feature when enabled, uses 1 tuner and automatically records all 4 major networks between 7pm and 11pm. It’s a fantastic feature. The DVR itself of course isn’t accessible but you do have the ability to view the program guide through the app where you can schedule recordings along with the ability to stream previous recordings. Again, it’s stream only which isn’t the case with the 722 and 922, or so owners of those boxes have told me. Hope this helps somewhat. Feel free to contact me off list if you have any more questions or we can do Skype as well if you want. I recall reading on here that some other dish users had issues with the Hopper receivers and streaming to their iPhones/iPads. I currently have two dvrs for four tbs and my understanding is that with the Hopper, you can have up to six tvs hooked up where as with the other 922 and 722 boxes, it’s only two tv connections with only the 922 receiver having slingbox capabilities. Can anyone speak as to the accessibility with any of these receivers and streaming to an iPad or iPhone or exicuting any of the dvr recording features online and so on? I don’t have an Apple TV, but will most likely be getting one later in the year. I would be upgrading from a couple of 625 receivers one of which is mine. I was thinking about buying a netgear usb adaptor to insert into the receiver that I own to catch my wireless router, but I’ve read conflicting reports online that this particular dvr device is not Internet capable outside of being hooked up directly to a landline which I do not have. I would appreciate any feedback or observations on any of the above. If I do decide to upgrade and sign on for two more years, I’d like to get the right receiver. Accessible checkbook program and iPhone app
Hi. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned on this list before and i invite you to crosspost this to any other lists you might think appropriate. The clearcheckbook web site and iPhone app is very accessible. You can enter transactions and can even see a running balance if you have their premium service for $42 per year. There are lots of options including setting recurring transactions and reminders and running reports. This is quite a nice program for those of us who need an accessible checkbook program and the iPhone app just makes it better. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group.
