RE: Help comparing:
Hi Eric, Here is a link to the iPad Mini tech specs: http://www.apple.com/ca/ipad-mini/specs I am not sure where you went and read the iPad Mini had a “A4 with a 1.8 mpx front camera and no reer camera”. I have never seen this information anywhere and they even go over all this in the original keynote. I actually had posted in this same thread that it had an A5 chip just like the iPhone 4S and iPod Touch and the same cameras as the iPod Touch. The iPhone 4S still has a better 8 MP rear camera. As for the display, there are 2 things to consider, resolution and pixels per inch. The iPad Mini has a resolution of 1024x768 pixels with 163 pixels per inch The iPod Touch and new iPhone 5 have a resolution of 1136x640 pixels at 326 pixels per inch. For most every-day tasks and uses you have to look pretty closely to see the difference. Anyhow, here part of these specs from the website regarding the processor and cameras on the iPad Mini: Chip: A5 Dual-core A5 Cameras, Photos and Video Recording FaceTime HD Camera • 1.2MP photos • 720p HD video • FaceTime video calling over Wi-Fi or cellular • Face detection • Backside illumination • Tap to control exposure for video or still images • Photo and video geotagging iSight Camera • 5MP photos • Autofocus • Face detection • Backside illumination • Five-element lens • Hybrid IR filter • ƒ/2.4 aperture • Tap to focus video or still images • Tap to control exposure for video or still images • Photo and video geotagging Video Recording • 1080p HD video recording • Video stabilization • Face detection • Tap to focus while recording • Backside illumination From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of erik burggraaf Sent: Friday, January 04, 2013 5:35 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Help comparing: According to the tech spec I read on apple.ca, the ipad mini is running an A4 with a 1.8 mpx front camera and no reer camera. Storage is also the same, 16, 32 or 64 Gb. The iPod Touch Fifth Gen has a retina screen, the iPad Mini does not. The size is quite different, of course. The iPod Touch Fifth Generation is the same size as an iPhone 5, but thinner and it still has the rounded back and not the square feel. Compared to an iPhone 4 or 4S the iPod Touch is the same width and maybe a finger’s width taller, not a huge difference although the screen size is half an inch more, iPhone 4, 4S and older iPods have a 3.5 inch screen (diagonal) and the Fifth Gen has the 4 inch screen like the iPhone. In length it is maybe three eights of an inch longer. The iPad Mini is 7.87 inches tall and 5.3 inches wide. Think of a regular 8.5 by 11 inch piece of paper. Fold it in half and you have a piece that is 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches. Now hold the paper so the longer 8.5 inch side is up and down and the shorter, 5.5 inch width is left to right. This folded piece of paper if you were to put it on top of an iPad Mini would be just a finger’s width taller and in width it’s so close, 0.2 inches, it’s not even worth mentioning it. In thickness the iPad Mini is only marginally thicker than the new iPod Touch and it’s probably not thicker than a third or Fourth Gen iPod Touch. Hope this helps. Re: Help comparing:
Hi, I'm totally confused by your statement. The iPod touch is using the same legacy processor, and worthless camera as you put it that's found on the iPad mini. Not to mention there is no cellular model of the iPod touch, and its only $30 cheaper than the cheapest iPad mini. It all boils down to 3 things. And if your blind, its really 2 things. Do you want cellular data on your device, and how big of a device do you want to use. Nothing more, nothing less in my opinion. I would say the iPod Touch 5th gen is almost a credit card and a half in length. Not much wider than a credit card though.
