RE: "a question about updating

2022-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Dan,

First of all, this is not an accessibility issue since when this wasn't working
for me it also wasn't working if I turned Voiceover off altogether.
Secondly, I assume this is already fixed when iOS 16.1 comes out since for me
it works fine and I am on iOS 16.1 Public Beta 4. I assume public beta 5 comes
out this week and that iOS 16.1 will be officially released during the last
week of October or the first week of November.

I am running the latest update, and Siri continues to not do the song
identification. When I hear a song playing, and I ask Siri to name this song,
she will say “let me listen “and after about 10 seconds, will say I can’t
recognize songs right now try again in a bit. I’ve written to Apple
accessibility and haven’t gotten anywhere. I hope they get this fixed.

Maybe this is a fix in iOS 16.1 then, I am running the iOS 16.1 Public Beta and
Siri has been working fine for the last couple of weeks identifying songs. If I
hear a song and want to know what it is I just ask "Siri, what song is that",
Siri will say "Let me listen" and after maybe 8 or 10 seconds I get the answer.

I’ve been able to indeed identify songs from the phone; for example let’s say
I’m in Youtube Music and a song sarts playing? I keep the song playing, go to
the Control Center’s Music Identification button, double-tap and in no time at
all, a notification pops up with the song’s name. It even works if you’re
wearing earbuds/headphones!

If the song is playing on your phone, I wouldn't think you would need Siri to
identify it.
The point of the feature is if you are listening, say to a car radio, and don't
know a song, you can ask Siri to identify it.

Apple may use Shazam for their song identification, but opening Shazam on my 13
pro identifies the song immediately.
Siri does not.
So something on the Apple side is broken between Siri and Shazam, but you can
get the results you want simply by asking Siri to open Shazam instead of asking
it to identify the song.
At least until Apple sorts out whatever they did.

Gera, Apple uses Shazam for song identification. A few days ago there was an
update to Shazam. For me, strangely my Apple watch running IOS 9, Siri will
immediately identify a song every time. But if I use my iPhone 11 running 16.02

Re: "a question about updating

2022-10-09 Thread Donna Casteen
Gera, Apple uses Shazam for song identification. A few days ago there was an
update to Shazam. For me, strangely my Apple watch running IOS 9, Siri will
immediately identify a song every time. But if I use my iPhone 11 running 16.02
& the most recent update to Shazam, Siri will not identify any song.

Several questions for those who have trouble identifying songs: is Siri linked
to spotify? I’m not subscribed to Apple Music but to Spotify, thus don’t know
if this would make a difference.
Also are you identiyfing the song through the button within Control Pannel?
And about what you get within the Shazam screen apart from the lyrics, you’ve
got to link it first), you get the chance to open the song right in Spotify!

All I get is Sorry, I can't recognize music right now.
I have tried later, about an hour apart including just now, and nothing.

However, if I simply have Siri open Shazam, it identifies the song quickly.
And, something I just noticed, there is a button to get the lyrics of the song.
That is something I will use more now that I paid attention to the Shazam
screen.
Now, I do not subscribe to Apple Music, so wondering if those who are having
success, have that subscription?

Just seems very odd that some people get answer while others do not.

Hi,

So what are the differences between the SE2020 and the SE2022? I have the
SE2016 at the moment so probably should get a new phone as you can't get iOS 16
on it apparently. That is a good reason to update isn't it or will it be okay
to stay on iOS 15 for a while?

Thanks

I just re-read their original message, they said, confusingly, the iPhone SE 20
first generation. That is not what it was called, it was called the SE 2nd
generation or the SE 2020 and then this year, the SE 2022, i.e. SE 3rd
generation, was released. The SE 1st gen was the smaller one released in
2016, which apparently is not what they have after all.

Both SE 2022 and 2020 can be updated to iOS 16.

There was no SE in 2021.

I hope that is all sorted now.

RE: "a question about updating

2022-10-08 Thread Richard Turner
All I get is Sorry, I can't recognize music right now.
I have tried later, about an hour apart including just now, and nothing.

However, if I simply have Siri open Shazam, it identifies the song quickly.
And, something I just noticed, there is a button to get the lyrics of the song.
That is something I will use more now that I paid attention to the Shazam
screen.
Now, I do not subscribe to Apple Music, so wondering if those who are having
success, have that subscription?

Just seems very odd that some people get answer while others do not.

I have an iPhone 13 pro max updated to the latest version of IOS. My Siri
correctly identifies songs if I ask her what song is playing, she gives me the
correct answer. I think the song has to be actually playing when you ask her
the question to work correctly. I have also been able to tell Siri to Hang up
on a call and it works correctly as well.

I can't either, it says can't identify music, try later. It used to say
"name that tune" Sometimes I want to find out a new country or Christian
song on a sirius-xm station but can't now.

Sieghard, Didn't I just read in this group or maybe another group that you
are running the IOS beta on your iPhone? It is nice to know that Apple has
fixed the bug to be released in an upcoming update. Until the IOS update is
released, Siri identifying songs won't work for those of us who aren't beta
testers. Downloading Shazam & using Siri still does not return any results.
I've checked Settings, Siri & Settings, Accessibility, Siri & can't find a
setting that may need changing to have Siri identify songs.

Donna

I have had no problems asking Siri to identify music for a couple of
weeks now. Just tried it again yesterday and it worked as expected.

The SE 1st generation came out in 2016 and is the 4.7 inch model. It
cannot be updated to iOS 16. It stops at iOS 15.7.
The SE 2020, also known as the SE 2nd generation should be able to update
to 16.

The 11 certainly can.
While Siri for some odd reason cannot seem to identify music, the Shazam
app can. I just tested it on my 13 pro.

I have no trouble with notifications either.

RE: "a question about updating

2022-10-08 Thread Richard Turner
I just re-read their original message, they said, confusingly, the iPhone SE 20
first generation. That is not what it was called, it was called the SE 2nd
generation or the SE 2020 and then this year, the SE 2022, i.e. SE 3rd
generation, was released. The SE 1st gen was the smaller one released in
2016, which apparently is not what they have after all.

Both SE 2022 and 2020 can be updated to iOS 16.

There was no SE in 2021.

I hope that is all sorted now.

RE: "a question about updating

2022-10-08 Thread Richard Turner
If you open the Shazam app, it will identify songs correctly.
I just tried saying, Hey Siri, open Shazam" and since Shazam opens in listening
mode, any music that is playing gets identified.
That isn't much different than asking Siri to identify x song.

Until Siri is fixed to work on its own again, this is a perfectly good work
around.

Sieghard, Didn't I just read in this group or maybe another group that you are
running the IOS beta on your iPhone? It is nice to know that Apple has fixed
the bug to be released in an upcoming update. Until the IOS update is released,
Siri identifying songs won't work for those of us who aren't beta testers.
Downloading Shazam & using Siri still does not return any results. I've checked
Settings, Siri & Settings, Accessibility, Siri & can't find a setting that may
need changing to have Siri identify songs.

Richard, why can't both iPhones be updated to IOS 16.02? I have an iPhone Se
2020 & their iPhone is a Se 2021. My phone can be updated & their phone is

RE: "a question about updating

2022-10-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think it's a question as to what phone you have when it comes to
updating to iOS 16 but whether you want to do so.
Of course as Richard pointed out the first Gen iPhone SE can't be updated and
that also applies to the iPhone 6S/6S Plus or anything older.
If you have an iPhone 7, 8/8 Plus or newer you can update. I have an iPhone 11
and updated and by now I am signed up on the public Beta for iOS 16.1 and I
have no issues which give me any concern or which make me regret it. I can't
speak for braille since I use neither braille input nor do I use my iPhone with
a braille display so if there are bugs in that area you would have to read
information on Applevis to inform yourself.

The SE 1st generation came out in 2016 and is the 4.7 inch model. It cannot be
updated to iOS 16. It stops at iOS 15.7.
The SE 2020, also known as the SE 2nd generation should be able to update to 16.
The 11 certainly can.
While Siri for some odd reason cannot seem to identify music, the Shazam app
can. I just tested it on my 13 pro.

I have no trouble with notifications either.

Re: question about updating the iPhone if you are sighted? and if any of the bugs will effect sighted people?

2021-09-21 Thread Kelly Pierce
I would definitely have them turn off automatic updates until before
iOS 15 is installed in a few weeks. Folks do not understand that Apple
needs to release the new iOS before it sells the new phones, whether
or not the software is fully ready. No, the company will not sit on
millions of iPhones in warehouses while software engineers write code
and squash bugs.

What Kelly said about the advice given by Rob from the Today in iOS Podcast for
the last 10 years is a good strategy if you are somebody who wants to play it
safe. If you are really into the latest and sometimes not greatest then chances
are you would have had the iOS 15 Public Beta installed for the last 2 month
otherwise what harm is there in waiting at least a few days or a week to see
what people report. If you are your family's technical resource and advisor
listen to Rob's Podcast and read what is published on Mac Rumors, 9to5Mac, Tech
Radar, Engadget and other credible tech websites and you'll be well informed.

By the way, in your subject line you wrote "i phone" all lower case and as two
words, the correct way is "iPhone", which is a lower case "i" and then "Phone"
with an upper case "P" and all in one word.

Subject: question about updateing the i phone if you are sighted? and if any of
the bugs will efect sighted people?

Hi all I realise that this is a list for blind people or vi people but I am
wondering about updateing the phone if you are sighted? What I am wondering
about is not to update the phone or how to do it since I know that but if any
of the bugs will ifect sighted people who don’t use voice over? The reason why
I am asking is because I am my folks and other members of my family tech guy
and help them with tech and I told them about the update to ios 15 but then I
thought that most of the bugs would be infecting people who use voice over and
that got me wondering about fully sighted people and so I thought I would ask
the list. From Mich.

RE: question about updating the iPhone if you are sighted? and if any of the bugs will effect sighted people?

2021-09-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Re: a quick question about updating my iPhone

2019-08-08 Thread Richard Turner
Yes. It sounds like you did it correctly, but Apple was behind in having it
realize you had updated.
I've seen this kind of thing before where you did the update, then told there
was an update.
I just power off and back on when that happens and it clears it up.

Hi to all. I seem to have successfully updated my iPhone to 12.4.

update
. I waited a couple minutes, then I got a message saying try again

Hi all. I was about to update my wife’s iTunes to version 12, but I have a
question. Will it ask me to connect her iPhone in the process of updating? She
has her iPhone at work, and I didn’t want to get stuck in a place that wanted
me to connect it if I don’t have it.

  Thanks for the help.

I haven't done it, but I don't see why you couldn't use a text editor,
like Note Master or Nebulus, to markup your web page. If you're looking
for a wysiwyg solution, I'm not sure what's out there.

Re: Question about Updating your website with iPhone

2013-06-16 Thread RobH!
Ok, I think some of the more advanced editors - Pages for example - can do
the markup, though I write it by hand.

Hosting is quite cheap and for sure you don't want to put your page on one
of those ad-supported freebies. Not sure where you are and whether UK
companies would allow overseas hosted domains. The name is wholly Your own
invention, tlD or top-level-domain are price dependent, .me.uk is quite
cheap, so .com, .org, .net are usally all cheap too.

Paying for a two year ownership of your domain name tends to be separate
from the hosting plan of so much a month or year. I pay by the year as it
is cheap. e.g: I pay £25/year for small hosting and about £12.50 for 2
years of my domain name .hoh.me.uk, and others.

Getting your content into that space with an iDevice might be another issue.
You can have a creative interface like Wordpress and things, so could do
that on your device, but That remote app adds stuff as eye candy whether
you want it or not. You couldn't edit the source on your local editor, too
big and too complicated.

Security notwithstanding, I wrote my own .php scripts to upload to and edit
mine, but scripting/programming was more my thing,... once. I had to put
that there using ftp, so we're back to an old question about - can I find an
ftp client for my iPhone?

Just some thoughts, RobH.

Maria why do you not want to update? Unless it is jailbroken it is
strongly advised you update the phone to fix bugs and improve security
and stability of the OS. Just my £0.02 worth. Most of us have updated
with no issues at all.

Hi list,
a few days ago, I have noticed a kind of new event in notification area
(notification center) on my iphone. It is saying that the update for ios
is available. It is also stated the update have been downloaded to the
phone.
I really do not feel like I want to update it at the moment. I thing I
really did not activate the option for updating ios software
automatically.
So my questions are:
Is it somehow possible to set the iphone not to update automatically and
not to get notifications of this kind?
Can I remove already dowloaded software from the phone (I mean the setup
not the installed version).
Is it also possible to cancel the item in the notification area?
Thank you for your help.
Have a nice day.
Maria

Re: Question about updating ios.

2012-05-15 Thread chris hallsworth
Maria what you hear is often untrue and unfounded. I am not having any
battery issues on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1. Haven't updated the
iPod Touch yet though lol.

Chris and all,
I just thought I would wait til next update is available because I have
heard from someone that there is no need to update to new version of ios
and that with this update there are battery issues again.
Have anyone noticed the problem with battery going down very quickly
even when you do nothing with the iphone?
I have had battery issues when I was on ios4, but since I have updated
to 5, the battery life has been fixed.
Thank you Chris and all for your help.
This list is really wonderful and I always get help from all of you.
Keep up the good job.
