: RE: square card reader
I just got my new Square blue tooth card reader which will accept the chip
cards but I haven't had a chance to try it as I generally don't get actual
cards to swipe but this one will likely work. If anyone out there has used
the new blue tooth version please let me know

I’d love to know if anyone has been successful with a splitter or with

Lois,
Did you experiment with a splitter to find out if you could use a headset
with the square reader and have speech output through it?

I really hope that Square finds a way to make it work with
bluetooth at least.

I have heard that most splitters don't work, but I have just ordered one
from Amazon, and will let you all know if it works with Square.

Hi Scott,
When you plug something into the earphone jack on your phone, it switches
from Bluetooth.
There is a message in the archives from a while back about using square. I
have one, and I have used it, but it's a little tricky to use. I had more

Penny,
When I use the reader, I manually enter the amount of the transaction before
plugging the reader into the headphone jack. After plugging the reader in,
I swipe the card, sometimes 2 or 3 times to be sure I get a successful read.
I then unplug the reader. If the card was read, I will find

It's true the square reader plugs into the headphone jack. i'd think for fast
connectivity hardline would be easiest, because he or she could leave the
splitter attached to square, and then just plug in really quickly if they
wanted. Bluetooth works just as well from what I've read. Any
Would a splitter work for something like this?

headset will not work if you plug something into the headphone jack. I
didn't want to give you wrong information, so I just turned on

Hi, I use the Square service to take payments for my business, however
if the card reader is used, I have to have sighted assistance to process
the card because Voice Over audio is not possible. It connects to the
headphone jack and doesn't have a bypass. This means that audio will not
work.

The problem I gather is that when you plug the device in you loose speech
because it connects to the earphone port. Using Braille however would probably
not pose a problem. I do not have one so cannot test it out.
