My MacBook air 2012 appears to be hanging after an attempt to up date from 10.10 to 10.10.1. Update was done via app store and all appeared to go routinely until the restart. The machine appeared to shutdown normally and the initial restart appeared normal with the advice “restarting”

Hi Ronni The installation stalled at the end of the restart and never got to the Login and Diagnostics window. On the screen there was a “box” with the word restarting and the usual progress bar which was at the right hand end. The spinning gear was below this. There was no Apple logo.
