Just started a new novel about a small bakery on an island off the Georgia
coast. The main character says St. Simon's is equivalent to Palm Beach, my
island is like Mayberry, alluding to the caring and camaraderie of the
community. I felt proud!

I like to think that somehow Mayberry would have remained essentially the
same even with a big box store on the outskirts; look at Mt. Airy as an
example, just one of many in our great country. I run into small, charming
towns like this all the time in my travels and I always think of our

Speaking of inappropriate things on TAGS, I vaguely recall Barney once
saying something about treating a woman like that a little rough, as if that
was okay. I always thought that was odd; can't remember what episode or who
the writer might be but PTL we've come a long way in our thinking about

I'm happy to report that the current issue of Reminisce Extra has a two-page
tribute to Andy titled Welcome Back (photographs that celebrte the American
experience); it shows him portraying Lonesome Rhodes in the film A Face in
the Crowd, holding a guitar in front of an audience. The caption
I believe folks were already realizing the hazards of smoking tobacco back
when Mayberry first appeared so the writers may have been trying to
discourage this in the scripts. I believe Andy was only pictured smoking a
couple times. Since virtually no one smokes these days, it's more noticeable

Once when Don Knotts appeared at Disney, I was appalled when the emcee for
the event said his greatest character was Ralph Furley. Then very young

I think I remember seeing our Frank Meyers on a Mickey Mouse Club mystery

after googling it, I cannot find an answer. In the episode wherein Barn was

I'm reading a little novel in which the main character is listening to a
young girl playing the guitar and singing. She states that she knows the
second song from TAGS and it's about love thru the seasons. I figure she

I'll tell you an odd name. There was a boy in my high school who was called
Ham; I figured it was short for Hamilton but when the yearbook came out, his
full name was listed as Hambone! As for Andy's autograph, I too have a
cancelled check supposedly sold by a reputable dealer but who knows?
Late last night I encountered our Malcolm Merriweather on an old episode of
Columbo I think it was from 1972. I met him in Alabama in the mid-90s and he

I seem to have stumbled onto lots of old movies lately with many Mayberry
alumni starring. Just a day or two ago there was cousin Ollie lording it
over Bobby Darin cuz he was a policeman - priceless! Then cousin Bradford (I
think) keeping an eye on Rock Hudson and Doris Day. A whole slew of our
Mayberrily Marie, the word uvula comes up often in crossword puzzles and of
course I always think of Barney and the choir too at that time! This is a
prime example of interesting facts we picked up while watching TAGS.

In yesterday's USA Today puzzle, the clue was Lewis Carroll's Boojum. Never
heard this anywhere else but TAGS and the answer was Snark after all! Found

My van died just as I rounded the bend getting off at Flagstaff for gas. AAA
