One thing I have observed in the early episodes when Andy is smoking- he always
puts it out after one or 2 drags-never smokes it completely. A good health tip

We have discussed before the number of times episodes where Andy lit up a

On the subject of Andy smoking I never could figure why he carried cigarettes
loosein his shirt pocket and not in a pack...He never took more than two or
three puffs off one and was careless with his smoking. Once he smoked in
bed...and another time he crushed a cigarette out on his porch
All this talk about Andy smoking reminds me of my very first post in the
late 1990's. I asked the same question-which episodes did andy smoke in?-
and I was chastised for it because the subject matter was already covered
earlier and someone posted a link to it. I'm glad you were treated better
I saw Andy smoking again last night in the cow thief episode. Also, this

I believe folks were already realizing the hazards of smoking tobacco back
when Mayberry first appeared so the writers may have been trying to
discourage this in the scripts. I believe Andy was only pictured smoking a

Now a days, hardly anyone on network television smokes cigarettes. Smoking
cigarettes was fairly common on network television in the 60's. If you watch
re-runs of I've Got A Secret you would be surprised that everyone on that
show did not die from emphazema before the end of the half
warnings about the dangers of cigarettes.
After that, both Andy Griffith and Andy Taylor stopped smoking.

Watched Bookie Barber episode last night and got me thinking.
In this episode Andy is seen smoking for 2 seconds, taking a drag as he exits
courthouse
and then throwing the cigarette on the ground.
In about 13 episodes we see Andy smoking briefly.
Out of 8 seasons, that is a low number

Please have patience with me. Last week I asked a question of all our experts
