Do you think UniversalLanguageSelector (ULS) is currently in good enough shape, with acceptable performance for Wikimedia wikis? I do think it's fine to keep ULS deployed and to iteratively improve it, so closing as WONTFIX (if new information surfaces that justifies at least a discussion about that option, feel free to reopen). I have requested that we continue to assess ways to reduce the footprint of the autonym font - it's small but it's loaded in some situations where it may not need to be (e.g. only Latin characters). Longer term, we should get more data to further optimize when we deliver fonts for content, as they're a huge payload with sometimes dubious benefit, but again, I don't think those issues are severe of frequent enough to warrant scaling back deployment. I'd much prefer to not scroll at ALL unless the new element is out of the viewport, in which case we should perform the minimum amount of scrolling to bring it into the viewport (at the top or at the bottom, depending on current scroll position). Unfortunately the Firefox OS simulator is somewhat of a joke -- and a bad one, since it doesn't make anyone laugh. The simulator produces essentially different results than real hardware, which isn't very obvious if you don't have access to a real Firefox OS device, sadly. Since filing this bug, I've updated my Keon's Firefox OS to (software) version 1.1.1.0-GP, but the bug still persists. It can also be reproduced with (certain?) other sites, such as WikiIndex (http://wikiindex.org/?useskin=monobook), and other Firefox OS devices, such as the ZTE Open. The GNU Freefont is most probably installed using Ubuntu package ttf-freefont which is from 2010: $ apt-cache policy ttf-freefont ttf-freefont: Installed: (none) Candidate: 20100919-1 Version table: 20100919-1 0 500 http://ubuntu.wikimedia.org/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages $ Ubuntu updated the package to 20120503 in their version Quantal. We could backport it to Precise and thus update the fonts.
