Ron, when I was at 2xT1 I was running it through a RB230 without any
issues for BW shaping (only a couple of queues). I don't think it is
MT in particular that is the problem. Could be the specific hardware
that is the issue though.

I am currently running 45MB through a 3.0GHz MT box with an SBE
interface and it handles the bandwidth just fine, although I am having
some locking problems from time to time, but I think they are related to
the sbe DS3 card as opposed to MT itself.

Interface Stats do you mean looking at the Interface List? If so, it shows like

Yes... MT in combination with the SBE card will cause lockups. Never

Hello Sam,

Curious if both DS3 cards have the lockup problem? You do still have two of
them, right? If so, it is unlikely you have two bad DS3 cards. Especially
because if they are the ones you bought from me I know they are good!
grin

We never had any trouble with them interfacing our ATT DS3s. Sure sounds
like a hardware issue or possibly MikroTik made a change in their code that
now causes this problem. MikroTik has been known to make a change in their
drivers (unknowingly) and render an entire revision of make and model
interface useless. Happened to us with Intel SC Fiber adapters.

Best,

Yep, still got both of them and yes there were the two I bought from
you. I got an Imagestream Rebel in last week and am swapping it in tonight.

I'm sure the issue is driver related and I have tried various version of
RouterOS from 2.9.23 through 2.9.42 and all of the will lock up if left
running. It depends on load on the machine as well as time up. Which
makes me think there is a memory leak somewhere in the driver code. The
machines were put together using the the MB, RAM, NIC and CPUs you said
you used in your router so I don't think it was that either.

I've run 2 different SBE card in 3 machines. Two of them were identical
Intel server MBs with 3GHz Intel CPUs and Kingston RAM. The other was a
Biostar MB, Kingston RAM, (and Ultra RAM) and a dual core Pentium 4 (the
biostar was just a board we for another computer so I swapped it in as a
different set of hardware to check). All of the exhibit the same
behaviour they will run under normal load for between a day and a week
and then just lock up hard. The Intel setup mentioned was a duplicate
of what Brad successfully used on his network.

To aggrevate the problem all I need to do is fire up a popular torrent
on an unmetered connection in the office and it will not last a full 24
hours before lock up.

Glad to hear that they do work for some people because I won't feel bad
about selling them on ebay then ;)

RE: [WISPA] Slow Internet across MT Router

2007-04-13 Thread Eric Rogers
I use MT 2.9.32 currently on my Dell PowerEdge 350 (850 MHz w/ 512M Memory). I
am constantly pegging 6M of throughput, and that is around 2-8% CPU
utilization.

I have two guesses...
1) you are creating a network loop between switches (either 2 MT boxes or a MT
box and a cat5 cable between the switches). This would start out working fine,
but then as utilization goes up the network is brought to it's knees.
2) There is a duplex mis-match. You can't force one side if the other side is
auto-negotiating. The only way to tell this is to have a managed switch and
look at the errors.

From the way it sounds, I would put money on guess 1.

Eric

Hi,

What do you mean this only happens across the Mikrotik box? If you
by-pass the MT box, everything is fine?

 To All,
 I have had a good system. I have a 3 Mbps Bonded T1, 100 users. Right now
when I run a speed test to Speakeasy, it starts at 2.6 or2.7 mbps and
quickly windsdown to 15-20 kbps. This is only in the evening and from 7-9AM.
 I have a MikroTik in P3 900MHz, w/ 500Mb of ram.
 Thisonlyhappens across theMikroTik box.
Any ideas, Mycustopmers are pissed. Some Are threatening to quit.
 PLEASE HELP, I'M A DUNCE.
