I am completely with you. I hate forums. They take way too long to go through, does not fit in with my daily workflow, and frankly, when a list moves to a forum, I rarely visit it. Heck, I hate digest lists for the same reason. I want to be able to filter, delete, and respond as needed

Forums are Usenet, only worse - who ever invented that mechanic did something wrong imho. oh not another mailing list that wants to become a forum..I think the crucial factor is that you have to go and look. Admittedly I don't post much here, but I would not bother with a forum. Macspee

Forums are Usenet, only worse - who ever invented that mechanic did something wrong imho. I have to go there and have usually register myself to post (which is often more complicated to register for a mailing-list and for Usenet it is not necessary) because of spammers, to see if there'

I find that mailing lists + gmail = more or less like a lightweight forum. You have search capabilitities and threads, and none of the avatar nonsense. I switched all my mailing lists to gmail exclusively and my desktop mail client is now only for 'real', personal email. JP -- -

I'm on the exact opposite and never keep up with online forums, I want it in my inbox where I can skim and read and think without the need of clicks and login and cutsy icons and whatnot. I can follow 10 email lists at one swoop glance and digest as much as I can with one single online forum

Forums = YES!!! I strongly suggest and support the use of phpBB or some such thing. I guess I hae no problem with signing up for one of these things, given the huge increase in utility, ease of searching, etc. I for one can never find anything in mailing list archives. JEH
