it seems vanilla kernel 2.6.38 boots just fine on all Zaurus models.
We have fresh recipes in OpenEmbedded (linux and linux-kexecboot) for
c7x0, akita, spitz, poodle.
Collie and tosa will be committed later today.
Test images will be uploaded soon.

I have got a SL-C760 with a broken screen. The touch works on the
complete area, but it doesn't display correctly. The LCD is broken.

Maybe you have a device that rejects to work, because it claims to need
500mA or so. But in fact it works, just it claims to need much more
energy than it really needs.
Here is a small hack to work-around this problem and force the device to
start without any interaction:

I got report that reboot/kexec does not work in recent kernels.
I tried both kexec and reboot in 2.6.38, and it worked ok. Maybe
config issue?
