Yes, thanks very much for the clarification.  I will check back in that
directory http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7.1/ from time to time and wait
for the .dmg file to be posted.  I do use Apple's developer tools for other
purposes from time to time, but in the case of Python, it will be nice to
install from a .dmg file.
