<<Why would there be a LAG in the time the amp turns off and the
headunit turning off?>>
When you mix brands in your car, you can sometimes in-advertantly cause
these "lag times" because different companies have different standards
for their hardware.
Quick example: Hooking a Pioneer deck up to a Premire amplifier would
probably yield no thump, as they are made by the same parent company.
Taking the same deck and hooking it to a Sony amp will cause a thump.
The larger the speaker that is hooked up, the more the sound is heard.
<<If the amp turn-on signal is no longer being fed into the amp,
shouldn't the amp turn off immediately?>>
Yes. It should, but there will be a delay because:
1). As stated before, if you mix brands, you mix standards in hardware.
2). The length of the remote wire will effect the time it takes as well.
<<I did a trial install of my Pioneer GMX-944 amp and never had such
problems. Sounds like a internal design problem with the amp instead of
a installation problem.>>
This is not an unlikely scenerio either. Rampage and AudioVox are not
exactly the equipment I would be hooking to my Polk and JL Audio
equipment b/c of this reason. You definately don't want to mix high
quality and mass produced products for this reason.
<<I know some amps have capacitors in the power supply to be used as
"reserve" when the bass hits. Maybe its those caps discharging through
to the speakers?>>
I personally don't know of any amps with built in caps that would have
enough power for what you are talking about. I am sure that it is
capacitors and resistors of the amps that are causing the thump tho, so
yes, you are right.
<<I'm just taking a stab in the dark here. Its about the only reason I
can think of why you would get a thud as the speaker is turned off.>>
You are right in your thinking, just a little more technical than I was
going to get. Brain candy is always good tho :-)
