In the old days on busy lists or
news groups we used to have
a mode of operation where
people seeking factual answers to
questions would say 'replies to me
and I'll summarize to the list'.
This had the effect of keeping
list traffic down, and quality -way-
up, especially from the perspective
of someone reading the archives.

I'm thinking of the 'xpert' mailing
list which was at least as big/busy
as this one.
As I recall Bob Sheiffler (spelling?)
ex-director of the X consortium
used to run it, and step in to
set the tone of the list pretty
frequently. Pier, since he's now
working at Sun (on RMI?) it
might be worth calling him up
and discussing it.
Tim.
