In my 23 years of building clubs I have yet to dimple a shaft to help with it's bonding.
Nor have I! Dimpling is a manufacturing shortcut to give a friction fit while the epoxy cures so that you can cut length and grip before epoxy has cured. Smear epoxy, slam shaft on, go to next club. By the time the order is picked up by freight company the epoxy is cured.
As for wire brushing out old epoxy. Use a stainless steel wire brush 3/8" diameter and chuck it your electric drill BRUSH INSIDE OF HOSEL WHILE HEAD IS STILL HOT, SMACK OUT DEBRIS ON A HOCKEY PUCK. DONE FASTER THAN I CAN TYPE HOW TO DO IT! Not shouting, forgot to unlock caps. Wear a glove. That's faster than I can secure a head in a hosel clamping jig for reaming to say nothing of the time chucking the reamer on the drill press. I use taper tips in taper hosels and parallel tip in parallel hosels. Get only about 10% call for taper tips.
