Hi
Paul,
Many
Clubmakers have gone through experiences like this, but do not dwell on
them.
I
started out with a common prybar, then went to a Stanley 55-525 Wonder
Bar. It has a wierd shape, and also used as a Drywall Panel Lifter.
I opened the nail puller end to fit over an Iron shaft loosely. I
got the GS Aluminium Wood and Iron jigs that fit over the
shafts. Also got a piece of hydraulic hose which I slit to fit over
shafts above the hosel. I have a short length of 2x6 next to the vise to give me
a firm base to apply pressure to pull the heads off
straight.
I heat
the ferrule, remove it with pliers when hot. The shaft in the hydaulic
hose is clamped firmly in V
slots cut in 1x5"x5" jaw pads, over the top of the 2x6. The The GS tip jig
is installed, then the pry bar which does not touch the shaft. Push the
head toward the vise until firm, then tighten the vise. Apply heat
gun or Butane torch to the head areas closest to the hosel over the secured
shaft tip, moving frequently to avoid over-heating.
Apply
heat for 30-60 seconds, try extracting using the leverage of the
Wonder-Bar.. Repeat heat as needed.
If
there isn't enough of the shaft left to grip in the vise, drill it out after
heating. Use a drill bit smaller than the shaft- 9/32" for a wood.
When drilled, move to a slightly larger bit and repeat. I have found this
generally results in the drill bit binding enough to pull the shaft remainder
out. The epoxy bond was weakened enough by the heat to let go of the
shaft.
Good
Luck!

Made 360 Ti driver with a UST 65 350 shaft. Have heated the club
head to point where ferrule has softened and there is play in the hosel but
I'm not able to pull the shaft with the usual hand pressure. Is there
something I'm missing like it being pinned, etc?
TIA
