I heard in a podcast (either BBC or Scientific American) recently that
a true symmetry is less appealing than faces which were slightly off
in their symmetry. The test was conducted by having volunteers rate
faces on perceived beauty. True symmetry was produced electronically
by taking one half of a face and constructing the other half as a
mirror.
