There is a lot of misinformation about chelated minerals, mostly self
serving copy written by those with an interest in selling chelated
minerals or colloidal minerals.

A chelate is a molecule which contains one or more metal ions at its
centre. Note that the metal is in single ionic form. The important
feature of a chelate is in its shape, it is not a linear ligand but the
molecule has the ion completely surrounded. In this manner the ion is
shielded from the outside world, and its positive charge has no
influence.

There are many chelates both natural and synthesised. Synthesised
chelates include EDTA, DMPS etc which are widely used to pull minerals
out of the body, for better or for worse. Natural chelates are legion,
and include the haeme in haemoglobin which hold three iron ions at its
centre, plant chlorophyll, citric acid, humus, humic acid, fulvic acid,
porphyrin and so on.

The properties of chelates with respect to plant and human absorption,
concern the size and composition of the chelate-ion molecule, and the
strength with which it holds the ion.

Some small chelates can pass directly into the body or plant root,
others are pulled apart by enzymes and the metal ion is attached to
transport proteins.

As far as CS is concerned (and other mineral colloids), there can be no
absorption in the colloidal state, the colloid needs to be broken down
into the ionic form, so the smaller the colloid, and the more electrons
removed, the easier it would be for this to occur. Some attempts have
been made to chelate silver, notably with citric acid and fulvic acid, I
would not mess with fulvic acid myself as it is a strong detergent and
has been implicated in bone and liver problems, citric acid and other
chelating agents may have some merit although unless the chelating agent
will surrender the silver ion relatively easily there seems to be no
point.
