I have tasted the same thing in Kroger quart milk, but never in the gallon 
size. It is definitely some type of hydrocarbon
impurity most likely being added by the container.  It doesn't taste like 
pasticizer to me, but I don't know what it is, but will
not buy the quart size milks because I fear it might be toxic.  My best guess 
is mold release compound which is usually paraffin
based I believe.
