A timely article in a newspaper two days ago: studies show that in
vegetables levels of copper are down 76% since 1940, sodium 49%, iron 27%,
magnesium 24%, potassium 16%, zinc at least 57%. Individual vegetables have
lost more....spinach has 60% less iron than it had 50 years ago. The study
has been compiled by nutritionists under the auspices of the Medical
Research Council, the Ministry of Ag, Fish & Food, and the Royal Society of
Chemistry.....can't see any vested interests for the supplement market among
these; indeed, the government is hellbent on limiting the types and amounts
of supplements we are able to buy and use.
Modern farming practices have led to the wholesale stripping of soil
nutrients, and make it less likely that diet alone can provide optimum
amounts.
