I have turned up the log level to "all info" and will post some details later. But here is what I finally get back from msn.com when a mail is returned.One problem is that timeout: 2 hours is a pretty short time to be retrying a message. It is not unusual for big low-competence providers like MSN to have mail server problems (usually dictionary attack overload...) that make them very flaky for extended periods. Traditionally mail servers have been configured to keep trying for something around a week before bouncing a message, but on the modern net that's a bit excessive. For SIMS, I usually go with retrying every 5 or 15 minutes 250 times: that multiplies out to 20:50 or 62:30, either of which is reasonable. It would be nicer if SIMS had a more flexible retry/timeout setup like free-form fields for frequency and retry count, but what it has should be usable. I wouldn't recommend anything less than 12 hours or more than a week as total time, and a frequency between 5 and 30 minutes.

Any ideas? The account is active and valid and works, so I am baffed on what is going on.
If increasing the timeout doesn't get things through, you will need to analyze the logs to determine exactly what SIMS is trying and exactly where it is failing. It looks like it is simply unable to connect to the MSN mail server, which is highly explainable this week. It looks like MS is running older versions of their own garbageware on their outside machines, and I'd bet on them having been bit by the worm.
