Hey folks,

I got 3.10.2 installed no problems now. Setup is another issue.

I was just about to send this long-ish email about my woes, when on a
whim I tried one more thing and finally have SOMETHING working. But
not well. See below for what lead me up to here as well as details on
my network. But now on a whim I went into my xlite contacts list and
added a contact entry for the other user on the other PC, and entered
his "softphone" entry to be the SipX DN. My 2 xlite phones are 200
and 201, so each configured on the other in the "contacts" list.

Now when I right-click on a contact and click "Call", it rings! And I
can answer it on the other end! But the call only stays up for 5 to
12 seconds, then I'm dead. Also, I still cannot call by entering the
DN directly.

I'm at about 5 hours of reading through the fine manual right now, and
fiddling and twiddling. I hope that is enough to make up for my
Polish Sausage earlier today :-)

---snip---

I've got my system up just fine, and have 2 PCs each with the latest
downloaded version of X-lite installed. Both PCs and the SipX server
are on the same LAN. Neither PC has a firewall enabled. I used the
tool on the SipX server to generate the proper SRV records for my DNS
server, and have entered it, changed my DNS serial number, and
restarted DNS. The server is on my firewall and sits both on my
internal LAN and on the Internet.

But I can't make calls between the Xlite clients. I've searched this
list on "xlite" and found one thread about 9 months ago but it seemed
to be a different problem. Though I did note from that other thread
something about a new rinstance ID for each registration - and my
setup seems to be doing that as well. Not sure if that matters. I
also checked the link Scott provided in that thread on debugging
registration. Though it does not appear to be registration issue to
me - they appear to register. Nonetheless I checked most of the stuff
in that link he provided and it was fine.

The phones appear to be registering fine with the system. I go into
the web GUI and check "registrations" and there they are. Of course
there is a bunch of expired registrations, and one active one for each
phone.

The basic problem from what I gather from the docs, seems to be that I
have to assign the xlite phone to each user. When I click "users"
then, say, "200" and then "phones", there are no phones showing up in
there. But given that xlite does not show up in the drop-down, I'm
just not sure how to get it into that list.

This wiki page seems to be the key :
http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/How_to_configure_Phone_Lines

It says "After you've created users and phones, you need to assign
users to their phones." But it seems to assume your phone will show
up in the "Phones" list, which the xlite does not. It says "Click on
Add Line."

So I tried going into phones and adding a couple of "Acme" phones with
the MAC address of each PC for the serial number. I then added the
correct lines (200 and 201 respectively). Restarted the phones and no
deal.

I've been digging through various docs on the wiki :

http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/SipX_Configuration_Server
http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/How_to_configure_Phones
http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/How_to_configure_Dial_Plans
http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/HowTo_configure_Xten_SIP_softphones_with_sipX

Even the page on how to configure the X-lite does not help because it
says you just "create an unmanaged phone" but it does not say how to
do that and searching the docs isn't helping :-(

I also know a guy who runs an SCS and he said he just "assigns the
user to the xlite". But he confrimed that xlite does not show up in
the drop downs. I haven't heard back from him yet when I asked him
how the heck he assigns the user to the Xlite if the Xlite is not in
the drop downs.

What am I missing? I realise this is probably going to be something
brain-dead simple that will make me thunk my head - it has to be,
because set-to-set internal calls should just work, right? But I'm
just at a loss from here.

I don't have any other clients so this is allI have to work with at the moment.

I also don't have any SIP trunks or anything like that. And have not
turned on any services that were not on by default.
