Not knowing your entire topology, I can't answer some of the specific
questions. However, in general, if you have sip trunks feeding the system,
you can have a DID from any of those trunks ring at a specific phone by
simply adding it as an alias on the users profile. Simply remove Operator
from your SBC, and then the trunks will route to the number provided in the
To Field. Be sure to put your main numbers in the Auto Attendants so they
arrive there if not assigned to a specific extension.

Here is another thing. Let's say today you are assigning everyone in the
extension range of 4001-4099. In the old system they used extensions
4201-4299. You can put their old extension number in as an alias, so when
someone calls the old habit number from the old system, it will still ring
at their new number. Not that you are going to do this, but understanding
it will help you with figuring out how you transition from one system to the
other.

Haven't worked with Skype, so I don't know their specifics.

Hope this helps.

Or buy a real phone :-)

thanks, I'll give that a try. I worked on some of this earlier because of
the multiple FX trunks we have, and the different people responsible.
so I didn't need to do a inbound dial plan with the phone #? I could have
left the dial plan out and just set up an alias?

some of this part isn't all that documented in general. (and skype sip
documentation doesn't mention you HAVE to use the account number as your
outbound caller id or they will register the trunk, but won't let you make
outbound calls)

as to other question, we are trying to run both systems in parallel, as we
switch over, and want the users to still have their old extensions rin on
new phones.
