How about making that external line just another trunk, and then give
permission to use that trunk just to that phone by putting it in its own
group?  It might be a simple workaround.

looks like there might be a problem if you mix external and internal lines,
if the sipx server AND the phone are natted.
(since local lines don't need, want natting, external lines would since the
external sip proxy can't find its way back)
what is see now is proxy registration going out, but nothing even attempting
to come back in, and firewall logs don't show any inbound errors, denys, etc

sipxbridge won't proxy this, will it?
