no worries, that doesn't sound stupid. Silly perhaps :) The reason you 
have to select the catalog before CdC 'knows' to search it is that some 
catalogs are huge and always searching every catalog would impede 
performance. In addition you don't want to add a catalog each time you 
want to use it and remove it when you're done. I'm sure it makes sense 
to you now with the benefit of hindsight :)

I have no experience with the Gliese catalog, sorry.
