Subject: [skychart-discussion] Re: Sky Commander

I just checked the ASCOM Telescope Chooser options on a fresh v5
platform
install. There never was an earlier version installed on this XP Pro
system. These are the only options in the chooser:
ASCOM Dome Control
Generic Hub
Pipe Diagnostic Tool
POTH Hub
Simulator

This V5 platform install was done with out selecting the "Developer"
options during the platform install. It is possible selecting
the "Developer" options might write more values into the registry,
but other drivers are not included in the platform, so they would
not be operational.

As I indicated in an earlier message I just supplied a copy of the
driver to one person, and I'm in contact with the original author
to see if we can get a stand alone installer for the older driver.

Thanks,
Peter Eschman

also has the drivers), you can test this by saving your v3 or 4
install file somewhere safe, and then uninstalling ASCOM v5 (use windows
add/remove programs). Then delete the ASCOM folder (normally in
C:\program files\common files). Then reinstall ASCOM v5. You'll still
see SC listed in the scope chooser because it's still listed in the
registry, but it's not really there. Try this is CdC and when you click
"properties" in the scope chooser window (after selecting SC as the
scope), you'll get an error: "the specified module could not be found".

observatory last year. V5 had no SC driver and there was none for the
SC on the ASCOM scope driver download page, but I still had a v3 install
file on the old computer, so I uninstalled v5 on the new machine,
installed v3, and then re-installed v5 on top of that. Note ASCOM's
home page warns not to uninstall v4 before installing v5. You'll loose
drivers.

revised too often, to keep re-releasing the Platform for every driver
change."
