Hi, Clare!
I'd like to point out a few things and maybe I'll go a bit off topic here.
The last version of Jaws out there is third or fourth build of 10.0 and it's
very functional. I wouldn't know your reasons to stick with version 6.x but
I know from my experience that there are many problems with older versions
of Jaws using the web and following the everyday applications progress.
If the reason for not upgrading your version of Jaws is the financial one, I
believe you as anyone else know that this could be solved in other ways.
Problem is that Doug can't fully concentrate on creating and fixing the
current version of scripts if he has to deal with compatibility issues with
older versions of Jaws and find the ways how will things work in all the
supported versions and be the unique set of scripts in the same time. I'm
also against the integration of scripts into the Jaws installation but some
of us should give Doug a break with specific and special needs. The man does
a really wonderful job in his own time besides his daily work and my humble
opinion is that we all should allow him to create one solid and stable
scripts version without tails for five or more years old versions of Jaws.
One thing I learn using the computers is that we should follow their
progress. There's always a point when we need to stop using Windows 98 and
install XP, change our Jaws from 6, 7 or 8 with 10. If we stay behing
technology, it won't wait for us. Making a change sometimes can be hard and
there's a period of adjusting to the new environment but nobody died from
it, as far as I know:).
