I've done this once.. umm I generally wouldn't bother :-/
The upgrade is fine, but usually it moves all your config files to
<filename>.rpmsave
e.g. /etc/inetd.conf -> /etc/inetd.conf.rpmsave
/etc/smb.conf -> /etc/smb.conf.rpmsave
This is fine if you go find them all , check them for compatibility and
move the configs back into place..
The catch is, you might miss one, and sit there dumb struck for hours
why something
has stopped working..
It at least makes it easy to upgrade whats there, as the list of already
installed packages
masks against what is available in the new version, and automatically
selects them for upgrade..
You can ofcrouse add/remove at this point..
