My thanks to everyone who replied to this. I have just been successful
in converting the first two pages of my resume to latex and having
them printout. Given the relative quickness, I will definitely be
progressing further with latex.

The best way for this turned out to be to export it as text and go
from there.
After yet another exceedingly frustrating day with WordPerfect for
Linux Linux and the ease of getting stuff working under latex. I doubt
if I will be returning to a gui word processor under Linux. I've tried
Applixware and now WordPerfect and apart from the technical problems
they suffer, both are also following the MS pattern of continual,
frequent upgrades that cost $$$.
Now I should write a dummies intro to latex, because if you don't have
much word processor and linux experience, getting latex going can be
daunting.
