Ah... Of course. Had I known more about pine I could have answered this for
you.

You'll need to add the Debian sources (as in source code) line to your
sources.list:

deb-src http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/debian unstable main contrib non-free

(swap unstable for stable or potato if you're running it)

Then you need to apt-get update (of course) and then, apt-get source pine.


If I'm not completely mad, this should satisfy the source dependencies too
(such as ncurses as you've come across) - obvious "I haven't done this with
pine" disclaimers apply.


Moral of the story: Always try an apt solution before a less apt solution!
