Society? Huh? I didn't meant the Group. I was talking about SIM not doing anything. I told them to at least put up a few old computers with Linux loaded near the Lifts. And set up some Linux machines in Library. And I could even help them with starting up SIM Linux Group. All those are things they can do without lifting a finger. Lift area always had advertisements about courses and such that almost every students see.
What I am trying to say is , if they are so enthu about the whole OSS then they could at least have done such things that cost nothing , its their building after all and used computers are everywhere , and could be set up and removed effortlessly. They are not. Every computers in SIM uses MS and Microsoft Office. All. If you go to SIM and look around , there is no OSS in the air. At least in Polys and Unis there are a few computer labs or a few machines with Linux or openoffice loaded for students to try. To end my rant , I see almost no commitment for OSS in most educational institutions here. Its all student led clubs and societities. If they want people to be trained in OSS then for goodness sake , tell people about it. Shout about how good is OSS. If not , they are into OSS as Microsoft is. regards Billy On Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 10:23 AM, Roy Ong <[email protected]> wrote: > Blame the society for being driven by $$$?
