Subject: Re: [smartBridges] Giving WEP to a custumer with laptop ???

If it were me there is no way I would give up the key.  Depending on the adapter it may not show the WEP key or encrpyt it if they were to go back and look at it after the fact.  I would absolutley make this a requirement, if not he needs to buy a Smartbridge (even an inoor unit to set on his window sill).  The WEP key is the key to the Mercedes.  Not something I would give out.  Of all of the keys to the cell to give out that is the worst even if you are running MAC authentication.  It makes sniffing wireless packets fun because now you can easily decrypt it which goes against why you are doing it in the first place.   Especially if they are computer savvy it just more reason not to.  That one single customer is not worth the trouble it could cause you in compromising your security and the support headaches that may arise from it.  My opinion.

Hi all !

Hi have custumer living so close that their Laptop wireless card is enough to pic signal.

Do I need to give them the WEP key or set it up for them ???

If I set it up without giving them the key, will they retreive it ???

One custumer willing to buy service with no gear supply by us is a Network Admin & is aware about Linux, Mac spoofing, PPPOE, Hotspot etc...

Or say no.... You need to install an Airbridge & a access point of your own.
