You upgrade above some specific version, and you can't then go back below it. The "working" one was below that threshold. But, IIRC I *never* got SmartOS to run on this board. Only Solaris 11. > How were you disabling the other cores? BIOS. I have messed about with debug mode and kmdb, but I didn't get very far. When I initially reported the issue there seemed some interest in fixing it, but about two days later Meltdown and Spectre surfaced. I would think that H110 and Skylake is far from an uncommon combination, and obviously the ideal solution for everyone would be to fix it. It's clearly something in the SunOS kernel. Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD all work perfectly. Solaris 10, SmartOS, Tribblix and OmniOS lock completely early in the boot process. Solaris 11.3 boots if only one core is exposed.
