Thanks for the advice everyone, but nothing is helping.

Using `use_mp/W 0` makes no difference. It hangs at exactly the same place.
(However, doing this on Solaris 11 allows it to boot. This is the same as
disabling the cores in the BIOS.)

Booting with `-B disable-xhci=true` also changes nothing.

So far as I can tell this BIOS (ASUS UEFI) does not have any ACPI settings.
This is particularly frustrating, as enabling `moddebug` in kmdb, the final
message is

kobj_open: vn_open of /boot/acpi/tables/SSDT_PmRef_Cpu0Cst.dat fails, Errno
= 2
